View Full Version : Worst Movie Ever...but..Not!?

I know this is a common subject on these boards, but I thought this was really interesting...
I've been a big Bruce Willis fan for a looong time. So, it's not suprizing that I've seen a lot of documentaries on him(trust me, there are plenty...). All of which said his movie "Hudson Hawk" was the Worst movie of all time. One movie reviewer even said "to say this is the worst movie ever, is a compliment". I've always been a fan of Mr. Willis' work, including his music(love that blues!)...but, I was still cautious of Hudson Hawk.
Then, my Bro got it on DVD. Told me it was one of his favorite movies...but, for the past year, I've neglected watching it...I guess I was afraid the critics might be right...but, I finally watched it....and I must say...
This was one damn good movie! I LOVED it!! haha, it has all the elements of a good movie! It was perfect! Although the ending was kinda...weird...(as far as Tommy actually surviving...but, they still handled it funny. "Yeah...that's..probably what happened!... :p "). Anyway, that's my little story. Hudson Hawk is going on my top 10 list of greatest movies ever! :D

As for supposed bombs that I think are good, I say The Cable Guy. The first movie Jim Carrey made that was a little darker, somewhat different from the rest, even though it was still a comedy. It's one of my favorite movies. But if people thought it was too dark, they should read the original script (http://www.simplyscripts.com/). The lines and scenes they cut out were pure gold. I know some of them were filmed before they were cut, but I doubt we'll ever see any kind of special edition. The final version is a wee bit of a hack job on the original script, but audiences would've just complained about the darker scenes. I still love it though.

The worst movie of alltime is, without a doubt, Battlefeild: Earth. Can it get any worse than this peice of putrid disgusting trash? I've never seen Hudson Hawk, although may scope it out given the chance.
Nothing can get worse than B:E....nothing...

I'm with JustJack. 'Hudson Hawk' was pure schtick. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Willis is, in my opinion, great at action and comedy, and he did both in 'Hawk'. There are some really hysterical parts (as well as some real groaners), but in the end I had enjoyed myself. By far not the worst, or the best, movie ever made. Just fun. (And I actually paid to see it in the theaters!)

I have loved Hudson Hawk for years. I don't get at all why the critics bombed it. It was a farce, not serious, and a lot better than any of the other joke movies out there. It was also a very clever movie, more so than a lot of movies out there. Anyone who hasn't seen this movie should at least give it one shot.

This thread is not for ranting about bad movies. It is to talk about movies that were generally perceived as bombs, but that you still enjoyed.

I'm a fan of good "bad" movies. Like Flash Gordon or Dungeons & Dragons.
But there was really nothing bad about Hudson Hawk. Infact that's one of my favorite movies of all time!
It was funny, origial, self mocking, and just all around the most fun Bruce Willis movie he's ever made.
I was more than surprised when I found out that franchise didn't take off into a series of movies.
Anyway, I think Hudson Hawk was great and would be a treat for anyone on this board to see.

Hmm, the Cable Guy and the Truman Show are the only Carey films I like, yet a lot of people dislike them. Alas.

I actually enjoyed MOST of it. The concept was reasonable. Some amusing cameos and some smile worthy scenes. The end fell apart, but I've seen FAR worse movies than that!
The Punisher had little to no redeeming features.
.. as for Flash Gordon - it now seems to be deemed a rather good, camp movie by critics. Like Blade Runner, I think the movies intent was lost in the shadow of Star Wars...

Mmmmm.... Yeah, I think as much as Carey likes to experiment... what audiences really wanna see is him talking outta his butt. :D I liked The Majestic, myself.

The Shadow.
The film open around the same time as Speed and The Lion King, so you know that it tanked. But, in reality, The Shadow is a very entertaining film. Alec Baldwin practically becomes the title character and his alter ego, Lamont Cranston. John Lone is appropriately mystical and menacing as Shiwan Khan. Most people might not like this film upon seeing it once, but give it a couple more viewings, and you'll enjoy it.

JustJack,
I think the Terminatah's comment was aimed at the person who said Kung Pow and Joe's Apratment. Not your talking about Hudson Hawk.

There are quite a few people who don't really get Ghost World and therefore don't like it, but I think it's one of the most brilliant movies I have seen in quite a while.
I also like Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, tho people say that was David Lynch's worst movie.

Yes, The Last Action Hero did bomb, and was forever perceived as a horrible movie. But the poor thing came out the same time as Jurassic Park, which went on to climb a couple rungs shy of being the top Box Office draw in movie history. It wasn't as bad as they say. Original premise with some pretty clever jokes (I loved the Amadeus references). In fact, I think movie lovers have a lot of fun to gain from this flick.

*HOWARD THE DUCK. I heard the duck was a turkey, but I liked the demon, and the whole interspecies lust angle.
*BABY GENIUSES. Even the description in the cable guide called it "unfunny", and I thought they were supposed to be impartial. But those babies were adorable, nice computerized lip movements, and I'd never seen Christoper Lloyd bald before--I'll watch him in anything, I'll admit it. But I could've done without hearing the words "diaper gravy"....
*TERROR FIRMER. I nearly walked out in the first five minutes, it was so absurd and vile, but I had a heart and stayed till the end. Pretty trippy stuff. Was that the voice of Quinn Morgendorffer as the psycho transvestite?
*NORTH. Siskel and Ebert frigging crucified this movie, but I enjoyed it. It was a satire of the legal system, with kids divorcing their parents--and of other cultures--loved the scenes with the Eskimos and in Amish country. The ending was touching. Beat the blazes out of another film Roger and Gene rightfully panned, Clifford. That was trash.

Cool. May help if you add a sentence rather than just putting the film titles in the post. Make for more interesting reading too ;)

You did not just talk about Charles Grodin, Martin Short, and Dabney Coleman. YOU DID NOT JUST TALK ABOUT LARRY THE SCARY REX.
I liked it.
