This was in Wednesday's paper, by critic Mick LaSalle and entitled Jones' animation captured timeless truths. (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2002/02/27/DD162694.DTL)

There's nothing new here for anyone on the board, and he does bypass the fact that Chuck tried to copy Disney in his early years before seeing the light, but it is a newspaper column and space is limited. He does make an interesting comparison of Daffy Duck and Jack Lemmon, though I think Jones and Maltese were leaning towards another Jack -- Benny -- when they grafted on Daffy's flaws (though an animated version of "Mr. Roberts" with Daffy in the Ensign Pulver role and Yoseimite Sam taking over Jimmy Cagney's role as the captain would have been interesting ;) ).
