Today's Anime News Nina was one that I think that we all have gone through at some point in our lives. I thought it was so hilarious that I had to share it with you all.

In response to the first guy: "Aren't you a little old to care?"
In response to the second kid, Find one of the volumes of Akira and smack him over the head with it.
In response to the third lady: "Yeah, you should try it sometime"
In response to the fourth...um...person: "(no response, just run)"

Oh yeah...hotlinking images. That's a riot.

EDIT: Here's the non-hotlinked image.

Just an FYI, ANN doesn't allow for off-site linking totheir pictures, so posting a link usually works better.

Can't say I've ever had that problem. Honestly, I've never had someone give me a cross word abotu buying anime. My parents were a touch puzzled at first, but they've accepted it.

Maybe I'm just in the wrong places, but I've actually never gotten these kinds of remarks in person. The internet, where tact and politeness are foreign concepts? Sure.

I got laughed at in New York for buying Galaxy Angel at Best Buy.

Thanks for the warning

And this actually happened to me on (get this) a cruise.

I was watching BECK (I figured it was appropriate since the lounge I was in had Guitar Hero) on my Portable DVD player and this girl saw it and said.

"OMG (yes she actually said OMG as a word), you watch that Pokemon Chinese crap. LAWL (as a word) that is sooooooo dorky. Are you a dork?"

To which I replied "No, are you a w****?"

Then she said she was gonna get her boyfriend but she never did apparently.

You guys are lucky this kind of stuff has never happened to you.

Wow, I've never really endured ANY of that kind of perceptions whenever I buy anime for the past few years I was into it. =\

I got laughed at in New York for buying Galaxy Angel at Best Buy. Oh don't mind them. What matters is that all the Poochies, Presidents, Gigolos, and Captains think you're tres bien because you like Galaxy Angel.

Heh, it never has happened to me. If it ever does, I'll have one hell of a good laugh at the other person's expense.

I usually get that type of person in the 3rd panel, especially when I was in high school. I would would bring my manga to school to read during my free time, most people would come up to me and say "You read that hentai stuff", followed by the person trying to find a page that was prove their excuse, even though I was reading One Piece. My reply would be "Yes, I do" because there was no point in trying to explain that all anime in not porn.

Now that was a funny comic. However, I've never went through anything like that when I would go and buy anime. Back in elementary school, people were making fun of me for like Peanuts, the comic strip, and Pokemon. So much to the point where they made fun of me when poor Mr. Shutz passed on and thought that I was too old for Pokemon at twelve. My goodness, so many people would just not leave me alone and they spent practically every day bothering me about my interests and hobbies. Its no surprise that I never really liked the sixth grade, in which the majority of that happened. No wonder I rarely tell people what I like anymore. Of course, it helps that I have Asperger's Syndrome and thus I'm naturally shy at the thought of social gatherings.

Luckily, I'm not to the point where I avoid all possible human contact. I'm just more nervous about talking about my interests. I think of it as a psychological means of protecting my emotions. As for on the Internet, I don't think that I was made fun of for my enjoyment of Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! DM or GX anywhere as much as I have been face to face, which is probably one reason why I feel more comfortable expressing my feelings and interests in cartoons than I am to most people in person.

Nope, never had that happen.

Although I was buying some Trigun manga once and some guys also in the manga section said:

"Whoa! You read Trigun? That's hardcore!" *_*

I just grinned. ;)

Actualy, I have a lot of funny Trigun moments - I have a really flippin' awesome bookbag that I use as my primary Art Supply Transportation Divice that gets a lot of "LOVE AND PEACE!!!" shout-out's - especialy on public transit. XD

People tend to ignore me in general so I haven't really had to deal with it in. I did get a good amount of blank stares when I did my 20minute presentation on Cromartie High School last semester. But I did get a few laughs so it balances out I guess.

On the other hand I do get a TON of crap on another forum I post on with the exact same messages as in the ANN comic strip. It amazes me how ignorant people can be.

As a girl I get more...reactions from buying games than anime but there were a few moments. At Barnes N Noble or Borders it's always the same three "You're buying this?" "So you're into this stuff, huh?" "'You know, I never got into this..."

Anyway. Story time. ...One time I went to SunCoast and brought an Ein plush up to the counter along with a dvd. The guy behind me muttered to his friend in a sarcastic tone. "Bet you she has no idea where that's from and is just buying it cause it's cute looking." His friend laughed and I spun around and said in a matter of fact voice "Bet you I do" and showed him the Cowboy Bebop volume 3 set I had in my other hand. The guy then smirked and mentioned a pretty big spoiler. I rolled my eyes, paid and left. ...When I think about it, he did have a little bit of "That guy." to him.

This one's not conflicting but funny. Another time, during the holidays I went shopping with my brother and we stopped at a BestBuy. When I approached the counter he started explaining about some discounts that were available in a very montone voice and suddenly mentioned "Oh yeah, those Japaneses anime dvds are buy two get one free." When he looked up I was gone and back with three Eureka SeveN dvds. I swear he did a double take. xD

I've been lucky in this regard, in as much as I've never had someone give me crap for buying stuff, even when it would have been real easy for them to do so (such as buying Mao-chan volumes on clearance at Big Lots.) If anything, I catch more crap from my friends who definitely get a kick out of certain trends in my buying (magical girl shows, shoujo titles, shonen-ai titles, etc.) Of course, I tend to give as good as I get when it comes to friendly disses, so it's all good.

Gee, I have absolutely no idea what that word is. I tend to consider myself pretty knowledgable about swears, but I can't think of any swears that begin with "w". I probably would have responded by saying "OMG, you actually say OMG outloud? Are you retarded?"

I think anyone who says OMG and LAWL are more dorky than anyone watching anime.

Panel 3 happened to me one time in high school. Around the time that DBZ Uncut was airing on "CN", in a sense. One of my "Friends" said that DBZ was popular mostly because of it being animated porn. Okay to me that was sort of messed up since the nudity present in it isn't sexual in nature, nor do I think it ever was. Sure there was a violence level, but he insisted that anime was popular for it being porn. I'm pretty positive that if it was porn, it wouldn't be airing on Japanese Airwaves when it first came out, or even on CN, since it did deliver what it promised, uncut changes. Of course I brushed his comment off since he was unintelligent to begin with, and ended up being missing a lot from the senior year.

You can't think of something insulting to say to a women that starts with a W?

That cartoon is funny though. :D

I buy my stuff online, and don't ever tell people what anime I watch unless I know they love anime as much as I do. After all, there are some strange stuff in anime, I like it all.

Now that I know what the w word stood for, I have to admit that that was a pretty great diss. Though, as I mentioned in a private message to him, it would have been even better if after she said she'd get her boyfriend, he said "Why, are you gonna give him back the money he paid you?"

I had a roommate in college who was looking away when I had DBZ on and told me it sounded like they were having sex because of all the grunting.
