View Full Version : My comic store

I don't want to vilify my comic book distributor, but this week was enough for me to consider burning the store to the ground and purify the land. Every so often one of my comics are missing. The last was part three of the LOTDK story arc with Grimm. He didn't order the issue for anyone. He said "it got pushed back." A week later I find it at the book store in the mall. The book store in the mall always gets comics a week after him. When part 4 came along, he had it. He's done this a lot in the past with the same "it got pushed back" story when he forgot to order the book.
This week he didn't order Batman 600, DK Returns part 3, or Gotham Adventures. They all got pushed back? That's what he told me. He had plenty of Marvel books and Shazam action figures come in today, but where is Batman?
Tell me this isn't stale?
How can you forget to order Batman #600?
This isn't a little comic store by any means. It's a large story that usally has anything you need till he forgets to order it. I missed the second part of the Jordy story in LOTDK. I wasn't following it, but it's still on my file. He didn't order it. I had to go looking for it. The book store in the mall doesn't carry the Batman title. Just TEK and LOTDK. Then the animated books.
I can't even delineate how bad this sucks to miss these three titles at a time when the Batman story is heating up. Gotham Adventures will be stale so I ain't worried about that.

Well, not to defend your lazy comic book store guy, but DK2 #3 was actually pushed back.

The other two titles were not. I was looking foward to 600. This guy misses Bat books all the time. It seems to only be Bat books and claims they get pushed back.

What you could deo is go to www.diamondcomics.com and print out their weekly ship list, go to your comic guy and prove to him they weren't pushed back. The only Batbook in the past few years that has been pushed back has been the DK books. The rest have been consistently on time.

I've got time to kill today I might just do that. We should start a pool cause I'm willing to wager he will say the list is counterfeit. If anyone personifies "comic book guy" it's my store owner. He's never wrong and you are never right.

I have been very lucky the past year and a half. I've got probably one of the greatest stores I've ever seen. As soon as I walk in the manager greets me very friendly and goes straight to the back to get my comics (unless he's with a customer, but that's understood). One day my friend let him know I'd be in later that night, and when I got there the books were out, waiting for me to pick them up.
I've only missed one book since I've signed up with him, and that was my own fault, because I told him I wanted it after he sold the last copy.
I pains me to hear comic shop horror stories (of which there are many). We're pretty much the only ones keeping these stores open. Can't they show some respect?

Over here, comic shops make most of their money off of card sales or other miscellaneous items. (Remember pogs? My laughing condolonces to anyone who has a bunch of those useless things) I always feel out of place, because I've yet to see anyone else buy any non-manga comics. My only complaint is that recently, the shop that's only a few minutes away put all their back issue bins in a hard to reach place (under the tables they were originally on, which is now covered in a multitude of card game manuals and whatnot) so I have to crawl on my knees to get to them. The only other shop is 30 minutes away. Life's like that!

I have completely washed my hands of comic book stores. I know there are good ones out there, but they are like trying to find needles in hay stacks. It's mail order all the way for me, and I've been ordering thru Westfield for about 10+ years now. GREAT discounts, guaranteed to get what you order, and fast service and friendly CSR support when I do have a problem.

I seem to be the only one with a good comic book store. They've never forgotten to order a comic, since I've been going, which is about 1 1/2 years. The front which is comic books, has a rack that has the comics from the past 2 or 3 months, and a backissue section which has some pretty rare items.
The back is cards, toys,collectibles,etc.
They sell way more comics than other stuff.

I was very lucky in the town I used to live in - I had a Westfields about 5 minutes from home. Great place. I've moved recently, and of course, i won't find anything as great as them. But I just can't give up going to the comic shops - I need my comics on Wednesday! That, and I like to browse through the other new issues that come out each week to see if anything that I regularly don't collect looks interesting.

I don't know if any of you saw it, but he got Batman 600 and Gotham Knights. He had two boxes of comics. The one he brought sat right ontop of the one he left in his car. The next day as he was going to work he noticed it in his back seat. So he forgot to bring the box of comic books into the store. This guy isn't bad when it comes to getting what you want, it's just a matter of when.
I wanted the comic store Arkham Escape 4 pack. The paint job was different from the TRU release. For months he kept saying he couldn't order it or get it. Something along those lines. They don't make it anymore. I go to this other comic store and they get it for me that day.
My guy is lazy and must not want to make extra money. Comics are a big business and I guess an extra 30 bucks that week was something he didn't need.

I feel your pain. It took 3 different stores to get 5 books this week. I finally found 1 copy of the order, and for some reason some stores were out of green arrow and ultimate x-men while another had stacks. This is getting to be too much work.

If you want to have a one-on-one conversation, then please use PM. Do not use discussion posts. This thread has gotten ridiculously off topic, so I am closing it. Please, keep the one on one conversations like this to the PMs and off the boards.
