True be told reading The Prince of Tennis got me into watching tennis and as indicated by my current signiture I'm following Wimbledon 2008 and I find it quite exciting!
Anybody else have something to say?

Can't say that they have.

I will admit that most of the good ones get me interested for a while.
For example. Hikaru no Go, had me playing online Go for a while, until I realized how hard it is for an American to learn this game.
But the biggest one for me was Eyeshield 21. During lunch at my school, the guys would go in the back and play football. I never played that well and I was pretty bad at the sport, however, I was pretty fast and after watching Sena, I figured I could contribute my speed in running plays, which worked well actually. (I actually did a Devil Bat Dive. I'm not joking. Okay, my friend help me jump and I landed almost on my head but we did score a touchdown and I was wondering what the heck happened.) Ah good times.

Wasn't a big Prince of Tennis fan, and I already enjoyed Tennis for the most part, so not really. No, I guess not.

Heh, that's awesome.
Um...Yu-Gi-Oh! got me obsessed with the card game for a few years...that's the only thing I can think of. None of the sports titles I've read/watched really convinced me to take an interest in the sport.

Air Gear had me slightly motivated to learn roller blading again... until I remembered how much I sucked at it.

Not really...
I'm a big fan of Eyeshield 21 but the only thing I got out of it is that I FINALLY understand the basis of football. For some reason no one I ever asked ever managed to explain it to me correctly >.>
Maybe I could pick up Prince of Tennis and learn how the heck to keep score in Tennis. Seriously what is the POINT of going with those non-sensical numbers??

I try not to question the point system, but it's quite simple once ye get the jist of it. To when a set one must win six games, each game is won by scoring four times (Love is zero, then 15, 30, 40) so scoring once when your score is 40 means you have won the game. If both players have won five games each (5-5) then the first to win seven (7-5) win the set or if the score is 6-6 then a tie breaker is played (not quite sure how these work yet, I think you've got to set seven points to win but if both players have six points then the first to score twice win the game). In the big tournaments men must win three our of five sets and females two out of three.

You still gotta wonder who the heck came up with those non-sensical numbers... 15, 30 and...40?! Where's the logical pattern? The point behind those?
Ippo got me into combat sports, but that's about it.

More like the other way around for me. I'm a softball player, so I'm into Princess Nine. My family loves tennis so I've been interested in the Prince of Tennis. That sort of thing.
Unfortunately, Air Trecks don't exist in real life. :(
Yeeahhh...
It makes me cry at night... :crying:
If actual sports were as exciting in real life as they appear in manga, then perhaps they would.

Not really... I'm horrible at sports. I mean, like, I love Eyeshield and all, but I could never play football. I'm way too small, and I'm not a big fan of the sport to begin with. And as PC2 said, most sports aren't as interesting in real life as they're portrayed in manga.
I'll agree that Hikaru no Go inspired me to attempt go, at least for a while, but the rules for it confused me too much and I quit.

I doubt many of us would. I mean... most anime fans don't really like sports... If they like a sport anime, it's usually because of the characters.
Now, if you like a certain sport to begin with then that could make you interested in whatever sport anime focuses on the sport you like... But the other way around... with anime fans? Not seeing it.

Well, I was never one for sports before I read The Prince of Tennis but at the very least I do now like to watch tennis. It is actually exciting, despite a lack of flash. :p

Not really. I think I'd get beat up on the field if I went around saying things like "Heart of the Cards," "Full on Friendship," etc.
