Alien sound effects

In regards to the first Alien, what sources did they use to make the Alien sounds, like squeaking, the sound the chestburster made after coming out from Thomas Kane as well as when the Alien screeches?

I was just listening to the AvPR directors commentary the other day and they mentioned that the sound the Aliens make when they die was something that the sound guys from the original 'Alien' franchise recorded in a zo;, they were capturing a peacock call and at the precise time that the bird made a noise a baby elephant also called out. That particular sound effect is thus fairly unique. Not sure about the other SFX.

I'm betting that the special features of one of the DVD releases of "Alien" or "Aliens" might have more info. Either in a commentary track or a featurette. Might be worth renting if you really want to know.

Or someone here who has a copy might know better.

I always thought it sounded like an elephant call somewhere in that screeching. Cool. :)
