Something dawned on me recently...

Clark was a tiny infant when he rocketed to earth in Superman: The Animated Series, right? Couldn't have been more than five years old. However, when the showckwave from Krypton's explosion knocked Argo out of orbit, Kara In-Ze was a little under the age of ten. When her mother placed her in suspended animation, she was in her teens, and woke on up earth at the same level of physical and mental development as when she was frozen. My point is, isn't Kara older than Clark?

The only possibility for her being younger could be that there were years and years between Krypton and Argo, meaning that by the time Argo was hit with the shockwave, Clark was already growing up in Kansas. However, that would still mean that Kara had been in suspended animation for a few years before Clark woke her up. All this leads me to wonder if Kara has existed for more years than her youthful appearance may lead us to believe. Personally, I never dreampt that she was older than Clark, but now that I look at it...how could she not be?

Howdy,

Physically, Kara probably is older than Clark. I think they are relying on one of the great sci-fi standbys, which is that suspended animation stops (or greatly slows) the aging process. They did this in Aliens, where Sigourney Weaver/Ripley is in SA for 57 years and outlives her own daughter.

So, Kara is still mentally and physically a teenager, even though her body is actually much older.

Ah, the miracle of suspended animation...

:o I thought this topic would generate more debate than this! :o

I think it is accepted fact that Kara is older (technically at least).

I don't, I like DisneyBoy's theory of how Krypton is far away from Argo and it took the shockwave a long time to hit.

Krypton and Argo are suppose to exist as neighboring planets, but still, it's stupid that SuperGIRL is older than SuperMAN. Next there gonna say that Superboy is the oldest being in the universe.

Maybe I'm wrong here but I thought the series put Krypton and Argos in the same solar system, hence the massive amount of debris from Krypton in orbit around Argos.

Any way, Kara is technically older than Superman, but Superman is physically and mentally older than Kara. And that's the big difference.

Kal-El was probably around 1+ (give or take a few months) years old when he was rocketed off to Earth in "Lost Son".

Kara was in here mid-teens when Krypton exploded, was put in stasis by her mother about a year later, and was in her mid/late teens (and it's possible that her stasis pod had started to breakdown allowing her to slowly age) when rescued by Superman in "Little Girl Lost".

So if Kara is in her mid teens when she's put into stasis, and Supes is just a baby around the same time, I'd guess that she's technically about 15 years older than Superman. Going from the idea that Superman was his early 30's when "Last Son" put him in Metropolis I would guess that Kara's in her mid/late 40's when she's rescued in "Little Girl Lost."

Actually I may have to correct myself. According to http://www.batman-superman.com (take it for what you will, but it is technically the official site):

When Krypton exploded, its smaller neighbor planet, Argos, was thrown out of its rotation and sent flying into space. Fortunately Argos's top scientist convinced the people of' Argos that Krypton's destruction was at hand, and together they managed to construct a force field that maintained the gravity and atmosphere of their planet. For sixteen years the residents of Argos survived. In time Argos's force field began to fail, and, sensing the end of their world, the scientist placed her family in cryo-tubes to preserve them until help could arrive. Kara, however, was the only one to survive. Clark was delighted to know there had been another survivor of the Krypton system.Krypton and Argos are neighboring planets, in the same solar system. However, if you don't like the "Kara is older than Superman" theory it looks like Kara could have been born just a few years earlier than Superman himself. So I guess I just change my guesstimation to Kara being about 3 + or - years older than Superman.

I know they're in the same solar system, but I just don't like that Supergirl is older than Superman.

Actually, it kinda bothers me too. It seems to wierd for animated continuity...Kara being older feels more like a mainstream thing to do...

It was probably just an oversight. Still, I'm sure she'll look great, regardless of age, when she wins the Delaney poll this week!!!

Best not to think about these things . . .
