Who's with me? We need a crossover story with the Justice Society!

These should be the members:

Jay Garrick (Who Wally would really look up to)
Alan Scott (John Stewart could look up to him)
Dr. Fate
The Atom (Golden Age)
Hourman
Spectre
Hawkman (The Prince Khufu incarnation)
Hawkwoman (reincarnation of the ancient princess)

It should be a flashback episode of the 1940s. Who's with me!? And if you can think of other members just tell me.

I'm with you, but as big a fan I am of guys like Carter Hall, Jay Garrick and Alan Scott, I just don't think that (for the sake of JL Continuity) they should be included. I am all for the JSA, but only

Hourman
Atom, Al Pratt
Sandman (trenchcoat & fedore version of Wesley)
Black Canary
Doctor Fate
Mr Terrific
Doctor Mid-Nite

Including Jay, the Golden Age Hawks, and Alan would only be confusing. I love them and if they left pages of JSA, I'd probably stop reading the book. But, in the JL universe, let's leave them out.

I would love to see the JSA. Especially, Dr.Mid-Nite. Not that I am biased for him. ;)

I could stand individual appearances by certain JSA members, but introducing Jay, Allen, Carter--for that matter, Hal and Barry--would just be a mistake. The more Flashes, Green Lanterns, and Hawk-characters introduced would diminish the ones we already have (GL Corps members welcome, of course).

Isn't the Justice Guild episode supposed to give us the JSA in all but name?

Pretty much... each of the members will be close enough archetypes that JSA fans should be happy (supposedly).

I don't think it would be a problem if the Golden Age versions of GL, Flash, and Hawkman appear. It would just give the modern heroes someone to look up to. Who cares if it's confusing to non-JL fans. I would like to see the Justice Guild, but the JSA is a must.

I'd love to see the JSA, and I wish the JL creative team would not have insisted on making the Golden Agers somewhat hokey so that Levitz would've given them the rights without problems. I can understand his position, and I would've done the same thing in his place.

I don't mind that there's gonna be a JGA episode...but there better be a JSA episode too!

I could be wrong, but I thought there was going to be a JGA episode because DC wouldn't let them have a JSA one.

I know, but who's to say they won't get the rights to do a JSA episode sometime in the future? Anything's possible right?

I don't understand how this works. Since DC comics is owned by Warner Bros., and since Warner Bros., who owns DC comics, is making Jusitce League, then why isn't the WHOLE DC Universe (in all its forms) just considered in-house and freely usable by anyone who works at Warner Bros.???

Don't Justice League's creators, as a result, have the rights to use ALL the DC Universe at their whim already??? Why do they have to ask for the rights to use them? Who do they ask??? They already work for Warner Bros.!

And, even given that, why can't they get the rights to use the entire DC Universe at one time? Why do they have to get the rights character by character? Someone please explain to me how all this works so I won't be in the dark anymore!!! :( Thanks!

I think if they can pull off a JSA episode, they can pull off anything. It might take 'em a while, but it's worth the wait.

Well, rights issues are pretty complicated. I'll be honest, I don't know how exactly they work. But I believe it has something to do with the fact that at the end of JL (in the credits) we see "WW created by" "Batman created by" and "Superman created by". Until JL was finally greenlit, they couldn't secure the rights to Wonder Woman for a guest appearance. For a show, they could, but for some reason, a one-shot ep was out of the question. That's the reason she never showed up in StAS or the JLU ep of BB.

I'm assuming it's the same way with the JSA. They couldn't secure all the rights to the characters for a guest shot, so they're just going to do a Justice Society Unlimited, if you will. Changing around characters so that they are very similar to their comics-counterparts, but not similar enough that they are the characters.

So, basically, the JGA is the JSA, and we will not see an episode of JL guest-starring the JSA.

I'm sure the reasons that couldn't get JSA are really, really complicated and really, really tedious. Sometimes creations are tied down by contracts and agreements with third parties. So apparently it was independent producer who had the film rights to Batman during the 80s and shopped it around to all the studios. It was more or less blind luck that the film actually landed at Warner Bros. -- the company that owned the character itself. There could be similar encumbrances in the case of the JSA.

Not to mention that fact that one division of a corporation has no direct power to coerce another division. I suppose that if WBA appealed to the top management at the studio, the CEO of the parent might force DC to cooperate. But more likely management would just as soon let the various sub-divisions sort it out amongst themselves without getting involved.

Law and bureaucracy, the enemies of everything that would make a fanboy's heart flutter. :D

JGA is the JSA, just with different names. A later JSA show would get kind of lost because you're seeing more or less the same characters but with their actual names. A second JGA episode will be more likely than a JSA one.

Timm & co. tried to get JSA for JL, it failed. I doubt that DC will change their minds and I don't see much of a point in going after the rights at a later time, they compromised with JGA, and I'd bet money that's the way it will stay.

You think maybe a Justice Society series could happen? If they don't have rights to make them guest star, maybe they could just make a JSA animated series. That way, someday the JSA could guest star on JL. Think that's possible?

Now I had heard DC didn't let Timm and Co. have the JSA because the now-JGA ep. made them look dated and silly compared to the JLA. Since JSA is making a good amount of revenue for DC, they had no real interest in letting Timm's crew sandbag them on arguably the largest forum for reaching a new audience. Of course, I don't recall if I read that here or elsewhere, so unless someone can confirm, I'd take this with a grain of salt. But those wishing for a Timm-JSA may want to count their blessings that they didn't get to trash on some of the best characters in comics.

Welcome to the boards katarhol! :)
I also read that and I'm pretty sure that was the reason, even though Timm & co. didn't really mean for it to look that way to the extent DC felt it did.
