I've never been a big fan of Wolverine, and there's very few Wolverine stories that I've got into. I think "Origin"'s about it. But ever since the solicits, I've had my eye on this story.
I'm pretty impressed. It's weird reading a story in the main comic that's set in a parallel future or some nonsense, but since I don't read the comic monthly, it's not that big a problem for me, I guess.
I do like the idea of a passive Wolverine, though. That little aside where he went nuts just makes you want to see it more.
Not sure if I'll keep getting it monthly, but if not, I'll probably get the trade.

I dont usually buy Wolverine but I decided to give it a chance and try it out. Im glad that I did. It was really fun to read and Im kinda liking pacifist wolverine compared to "slice and dice everything" wolvie. I also love the idea of Hulk's grandkids being in-bred mutants. Overall a fun story.

Story: "Old Man Logan (Part 2 of 8)." Logan owes the Hulk Gang. He owes them big, and they’re not the kind to let a debt slide, even for the guy who—50 years ago—called himself Wolverine. So Logan’s agreed to a crazy ride across America with the blind archer, Hawkeye, to deliver a package to the East Coast. First stop: San Francisco…but only if Logan and Hawkeye can make it past—the GHOST RIDERS. MARK MILLAR and STEVE MCNIVEN—the best-selling creative team of the 21st century—continue the biggest Wolverine story the future has ever seen!

I can understand with the book taking long breaks between shipping issues that Marvel is not hyping this, but man these two issues are awesome. The idea of this story is not new, but the execution is amazing.

I just read the issue this morning. The story just sorta moved a long, but there were some really cool moments. The spider-bug going through the building was fun. Along with the really neat Loki meets building panel. The things they just sorta drop along the way could fill up another series of books. If you check out the panel when they are showing the outside of the bar you can see an old VW with a rocket strapped. That panel cracked me up.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but the crew cut and beard looks a lot better than the fin hair that Logan usually wears.

So what do all of you think of this storyline so far? Is this McNiven's finest work to date? Or is his artwork being wasted on a weird "What If" tale cooked up in Mark Millar's deranged mind?!? ;)

I decided to keep up with it monthly after-all, and I have to say, I don't regret it one bit. So great.
I liked the reasoning behind why Logan won't pop the claws anymore. Not only does it show how crazy he can get, but also how much he does care, and need, the X-Men.
Also loved how he punished himself. It took me a second to really "get" it, but it makes perfect sense. He knows he can't die, so he repeatedly took the most painful shots he could take just so it would hurt more.
The only element that shocked me was that it was Mysterio that did it. I know it's part of the whole "bad guy team-up" thing, but I sort of expected an X-men villain to be the one behind it.

Having just read the latest issue, I have to admit, this is starting to bore me. This reads like one big fanfic, something a geeky teenager would write because it's "SUPERCOOL!!!"
I actually suspect Millar knows how simplisticly absurd his plot is coming across, (like I suspect Frank Miller knows how corny his plots have become). It's well known that Millar doesn't have any use for subtlety, but this is laughable.
The plot basically revolves around all of the world's supervillains "teaming up" and conquering the world, (finally). Supposedly, with the villains now organized, personal vendetta's are pushed to the side, (meaning it's Mysterio who gets assigned to take Wolverine out, even though you would think Sabertooth or Omega Red would get the honor).
While I like the idea of all of the world's villains performing a world wide "coup de grace" and finding efficient ways to dispatch the heroes, the thing is...I just can't buy Mysterio being able to defeat Wolverine so completely. Wolverine should be able to see through Mysterio's parlor tricks all day long. It's just too much.
Also, there's just something not right when you're seeing villains like Mr. Sinister and the Absorbing Man fighting alongside one another, (even if it was all an illusion).
And that last page? Venom...combined with a T-Rex?!? Is that supposed to be "SUPER MEGA BADASS!!!"?
Like I said, it sounds like it's all written by a comic book junkie, (it's like the kid from "KICK ASS" took up writing comics)...

I read the first two or three and really liked them. I think I am just going to wait for the rest to be released before I read it now. I read too many books to remember what happened 7 issues and 7 months ago by the time its concluded.

I've not had a chance to grab #72, but have they announced a release date for the "Old Man Logan Special"? I don't remember seeing it solicited yet, and they've already announced solicitations up through "Dark Wolverine."

I never thought I would think it would be cool to have a two page splash page for one word, but this issue proved that it can happen. This issue in terms of cool moments and story wise it was a little better than last issue. Nice call back to the famous Captain America/Baron Blood fight in this issue. I think having the fill in inkers and colorist did show in the final product. The color did not have the same pop it usually does. I hope the fact they have not solicited the final issue means they are going to let the original art team have enough time to complete the story.

That.....ended kinda "meh."
The cliffhanger for the previous issue left me kinda excited. Popping the claws was a "Holy Crap, Things Gettin' Interesting" kind of thing. But the more I think about it, it would have been better to just end it there, and leave it up the imagination.
As the Giant Size issue went on, it was just "Wolverine's Hacking People Away. Ok. Whatever." It just became a generic Wolverine story. Honestly, it probably would have been better to leave the final fight up to the imagination, because by ending it this way, it just lacks that unique feel the entire story did. Not to mention, aside from the reason Logan went on this road trip, not much about this has been about the Hulk gang. It was about the villains ruling over all, how they got there, and finding out who the big boss in charge was. All of that ended in #72.
And the "Cowboy Ending" was a little lame, considering nothing of this seemed "western" to me. Yeah, it was a trip across a desert wasteland, but it was done in the friggin' Spidermobile. They ran into a T-Rex and fought a Nazi. Not really a western feel.
All in all, though, despite the lackluster ending, I'm glad I got it. As I said earlier, I'm not exactly a fan of Logan, and there are few stories with him I like. This I can safely add to that list.
