June 16, 2008

On Monday night, Raw will make itself at home in Salt Lake City, as WWE Champion Triple H and John Cena continue to circle one another like junkyard dogs, spoiling for their title match at Night of Champions. This week, Cena will face Umaga in a Street Fight. Surely The Game will be watching as his Night of Champions opponent meets the Samoan Bulldozer on Raw.

Just two weeks ago, Cena defeated Jeff Hardy to become the No. 1 contender. Last week saw Triple H sweep Cena’s legs out from under him after the Chain Gang Commander’s victory over JBL. Then, in the night’s main event between The Game and Jeff Hardy, Cena interfered, causing Triple H to lose by count-out. With less than two weeks before Night of Champions, will anything keep these two fierce competitors from annihilating one another? Will Cena's Street Fight with Umaga affect his strategy going into Night of Champions?

An appearance by Shawn Michaels on Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel quickly turned ugly when Y2J attacked The Showstopper. Their rivalry had been building for the past few weeks as Jericho alternately accused HBK of faking an injury and then encouraged him in a match against Batista. What is the purpose of the mind games that the Intercontinental Champion is playing with Michaels, and how will Michaels react to being attacked last Monday night?

Also last week, World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes suffered their second defeat in a row, this time at the hands of Umaga & Snitsky. While recovering after the match, the champs were again confronted by Raw’s newest Superstar, Ted DiBiase. The “simply priceless” DiBiase warned them that at Night of Champions, he and a partner of his choosing will prevail over the World Tag Team Champions. With the ongoing strife between Holly & Rhodes, will they be able to stand up to DiBiase and his mystery partner? And who will that partner turn out to be?

As temperatures run high on Raw, surely in the back of all the Superstars’ minds are thoughts of the impending WWE Draft. In less than two weeks, all Superstars, Divas, announcers and General Managers from all brands will be eligible to be drafted to another show. Who will get selected to leave Raw and which of your favorite Superstars will begin appearing on Monday nights?

But, your biggest reason to tune into Raw this week is no doubt the continuation of McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania. The reports are all true: Mr. McMahon is giving away his own money. Just last week he gave away a cool $1 million, and he’s promised to do it all again this week. To get your share, all you have to do is register at WWE.com and tune in.

So far another washout of a RAW:

An awful cena/HHH promo though HHH had a few good lines with the kids liking Cena (very true) Cena's part in the promo too things down a notch.

More problems with Vince being out of touch with technology and having difficutlies with the phone.

Having the winner degrade themselves. I guess this was the comedic direction they were going with for week 2 and if this is the comedy, then this failed miserably.

Having more random divas on shows they're not supposed to be in.:shrug:

While its nice to see Charlie Haas have screentime, it was based on a rib that his appearances have zero reaction or a Haas pop if you will.

Of course Jericho saved the show with his great heel promo. Nice unexpected appearance by Flair. And a nice improptu match too.

Ric Flair just delivered the longest interruption in history. Music starts, Flair walks to the ring, commercial break, and then: "SHUT UP!"

Looks like that's how they start the "New Generation" group with the Rhodes/Holly/Cryme Time match. Confuse Rhodes into thinking that they're really his friends by giving him little pushes here and there. Once they win the tag titles off him, work that into confusion to get him to turn on Holly and join the group.

I'm really curious as to where this all goes. Could be really good.

That's Alana's Myspace page. I pretty much went on here seconds after she won (i typed her name when it was displayed) This pretty much closes the book on the entrants learning about this "live."

I had read news that WWE as going to trying to make the call segments more entertaining.. but hell, they've gone the other way. As all the kids are saying: FAIL.

While you're at it, call the last contestant, because Vince flashed his phone number pretty clearly onscreen.

I like Lance Cade being at the end of Raw helping out Jericho. Its about time someone different gets pushed and while Cade isnt one of my personal favorites, its nice to see someone else get some main event shine.

Overall, an improvement over last week's poopfest.

Going into tonight's show, I got to thinking that the best way to make this million dollar contest work would be to just do what they do on the radio. You get the password(s), and at a specific point, they give you a number to call. Be the right # caller, say the password(s), and you win. The dollar amount would be designated ahead of time for each segment. It cuts on the amount of air time Vince McCamerahog gets, and everyone's happy.

Naturally, such logic is lost on McCamerahog and his cast of idiots.

Charlie Haas' facials looked like he was channeling Val Venis during the bikini contest. Certainly did a good job. Have to fault about half the girls in the field for wearing boots with their bikinis. That screams fashion faux pas.

Lance Cade was trained by HBK. So why does he attack Shawn's best buddy, Triple H? Aside from getting another main event rub, I honestly can't think of a rational explanation.

Did not expect Ric Flair to return so soon. Maybe more toward the end of the year, I thought, but this must've been a hot-shot deal. Getting tossed meant drawing heel heat for Vince. I guess next week will be the end of the money if the ratings don't move too far.

Best match on the show, IMPO, was Hardy-Carlito. Very athletic and fast-paced, but deserved more time.

Well the mon-ey was all about embarassing those who won this week. And wow was that Alana excited. She must be having a rough time right now. Good thing she didn't win the $16. As soon as Vince called that person, I had a feeling she was going to get short-changed. Last week's press release said $16 was one of the prizes, so I knew it was coming. The Hacksaw cameo when no one answered was great. I was hoping the 2x4 would have tux on and it did. I don't know when this is ending, but I was kind of hoping that next week with three hours and the draft that there wouldn't be a giveaway next week. Ah well.

The highlight of the opening was definitely Triple H insulting the age of Cena's fans. I saw it coming, but it was still pretty good.

I hated how Vince announced Cena vs. Umaga like no one knew it was going to happen. It was the lead on the .com preview!

If McMahon playing a prank on Charlie Haas can get him some attention, I'm all for it. They often bring all the Divas together for bikini contests so I didn't have a problem with the SmackDown/ECW "cameos." The big issue here was the music never stopped so it was on Charlie to stop the Diva and move on to the next one.

Jeff vs. Carlito is a releative oldie, but a goodie. I can see why Carlito would be dissatisfied with his spot again though.

I liked Chris Jericho declaring he is going to "save himself." It really brought his return full circle in a way that worked. It also worked having Flair come out and challenged him to a fight in the parking lot. Good to see Naitch again even though Vince threw him out shortly there after. I liked HHH confronting. Y2J.

I guess that very quick win over Cryme Tyme counts as Holly & Rhodes getting back on the right track. Ted DiBiase, Jr.'s distraction didn't appear to work out quite as he expected.

The Burchills have obviously worked together more than Kennedy and Mickie have and that seemed to have been the difference here.

Somehow I have a feel that Cena wishing Triple H luck was entirely genuine. ;) He was willing to offer his help when Lance Cade came out to help Jericho though (for all the good it did him). I'm intrigued by these two, but I'm not sure what it means other than Trevor Murdoch becoming a jobbing sideshow.
