We will accept nothing less than full victory.
-Dwight D. Eisenhower
64 years ago today, the allied forces of World War II stormed the beaches of Normandy. As everyone probably knows, this military operation was the beginning of the end for Nazi power in Europe.
Some useful information about the invasion can be found here (http://www.kansasheritage.org/abilene/ikedday.html) and here (http://www.army.mil/d-day/). There's much more out there, of course, and further contributions are welcome. Take some time out today to learn more about what a few men went through and died for to win liberation and freedom for millions more.
I'd also recommend the film The Longest Day. It may be old, black and white, and three hours long, but it's a fine movie about the battle that portrays all sides.
