people i got a question

how exactly would it have played out if the jlu episode the doomsday sanction had played out in such a way that the episode had instead ended on a more tragic note in the sense that while batman would have survived the missile detonation it would instead have ended with him being for a time in a near lifeless coma

for that matter how would it have gone over with the fanbase if that had actually happened at the time assuming that batman would eventually come out of it and make a rather lengthy recovery say with him making a full return to good health to be back in character all together maybe midway through the final season

on the one hand i can see how it would have accelerated the beginning of the metahuman world war

on the other hand though i believe it would have been interesting if only because it would have given we the fanbase a chance to see how batmans alies and enemies would have reacted over the matter

i could all to easily see a scene happening where harvey bullock speaks of him at first in a rather begrudging manner in the present time while bruce is in a coma but with it happening in such a way that midway through the scene as bullock speaks of batmans person in the passing sense it would be rather clear that in death even harvey himself would come to see and think and even speak of the batman in a somewhat more positive manner if only unnofficially of the record as a way for him to show proper respect for the dead

i could even see a scene where a aging rash al ghule would even speak befittingly of the batman's person in saying a word or 2 of how he had over time come to respect and even relish the challenge batman gave him throughout his life time as an adversary to him

for that matter i could even see the joker freaking out over the whole matter solely because of the fact that it was not he himself that administered the killing blow to the batman

if anything i'm rather curiouse what twoface/harvey dents reaction to the whole event would be especially if the scene made it clear in alluding to the fact that he slowly but surely figured out for himself over time that bruce wayne and the batman are and always have been one and the same person

if anything it would have given nightwing batgirl, and robin the chance to put in a lasting appearance through the second half of season 4 and the first half of season 5 as they attempt to handle batmans role in his place with nightwing taking on the role for a time

at the very least it would have made it possible for the following episode after the doomsday sanction to begin with a flashback scene which would show footage of batman's leap of faith scene with the background music being the main theme from batman phantasm

thoughts people?

That sounds like "Hereafter" with Batman in Superman's shoes.

Plus, the Batman characters were already verboten by the time of season 3 due to the Embargo, so no go.

Also, there'd definitely be no point in stretching the "Batsy's in a coma" plot across 2 seasons. That would just be unnecessarily drawn out and it would quickly grow tiresome. The JL writers didn't try to get more than an hour out of "Hereafter", for pity's sake. (To say nothing of the legions of fans that you'd tick off with a move like that; if you took out Batman, one of the shows' premier characters, for such an extended period of time, I guarantee the shows' rating would plummet faster than a lead balloon covered in fat people.)

We already saw him do that in "The Man who Killed Batman". Been there, seen that.

And anyway, all of that business about putting Batman in a coma, showing all of his co-stars and villains reacting to it and Batgirl and Nightwing trying to fill in for him would have been irrelevant to the Cadmus plot, which was mainly about the metahumans versus the establishment and as such focused more directly on Superman than Batman, as Supey's the main establishment hero. This plotline would be better suited as a separate story arc all by itself, and it would work better on a Batman solo series than on JLU.
