Many animated programs have been created over the years, but unfortunately, not all of them manage to find success. I wanted to create this thread so that we could all discuss the animated programs that never received more than single season, and perhaps we can share our thoughts on why they weren’t successful. To get things started, I’m going to go with “God, The Devil & Bob”.

I only saw about half-a-dozen episodes, but I absolutely loved the premise and the way that it portrayed God and the Devil. Granted, I’ve read that such is also the reason it was cancelled during the first season, as there were protests and most people refused to watch the show. However, I really enjoyed this series and I don’t believe it was anywhere near as controversial as people claimed that it was.

What was your favorite animated program that got cancelled with only one season? Why do you believe it was cancelled? I know “low ratings” will be a common answer, but try to elaborate on why you think the series got low ratings.

The Completly Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley- Martin Short brought his most famous character to Saturday Mornings on NBC for a single season in the late 80's, with Danny Cooksey, Catherine O'Hara, and Jonathan Winters along for the ride.

However, I believe it's failure was 2-fold. First, the show was WAY ahead of it's time in terms of humor. The show was both funny AND sharply written, with jokes that would literally fly over children's heads. And the second, I believe NBC buried the show in the tail end of the lineup where most kids would already be up and outside by that point.

I thought that 2 episodes of Wulin Warriors aired on Toonami before CN dropped it from it's lineup.

I don't know if Robot Jones counts. It had one season that was split into two.

Invader Zim - I think the Door 2 Door episode was what got it cancelled. Other than that, I think it was because of it being "dark and crude".

Catscratch - This show was created Doug TenNapel for crying out loud! It had that Angry Beavers feel to it.

The Xs - I really thought this show was funny. I didn't understand why some people thought this show was terrible.

El Tigre - Another good show that had so much potential. What I really like about this show was that it was well animated in Flash.

Crash Nebula - I know that this wasn't officially a show but it was suppose to be a show right after the special but Nick decided not to created because they thought it was too similar the Disney movie Sky High, which I thought was a stupid reason.

I think other good reason why these shows never got pass the first/second season was Spongebob Squarepants. I mean Nick airs that show at least 2-6 times almost everyday. :shrug:

The Where's Waldo cartoon lasted only one 13 episode long season. Which is a damn shame since it had some smart writing and some good voice acting.

Well If we're talking about 1 season and done after that season, I can think of maybe 2 shows that ended after 1 season, and one of these 2 didn't even make it to the small screen..

First up we have Capitol Critters. A nice fun little show on ABC that lasted all of 6 episodes, and in fact this show actually had a pretty good idea.. Take animated talking animals (mice mostly) dealing with how our government worked. (Yes, it sounds corny and campy in a way, but when you think about it, Capitol Critters was in fact a rather well written educational show that would have given kids a look at our own government and how it works.

But then here's the other show, and it never even got off the conceptual phase of the idea, but 3 of the episodes did end up to make a Movie Sequel.

The Show I'm referring to is perhaps Disney's Team Atlantis. Now Team Atlantis was a TV show that Disney had planned for a full 65 episode run, and in fact had interesting twists and turns of the World Mythos that were out there, including ideas about the Norse Gods, the American Indian cultures, and yes even other mythos.. In fact there was supposed to be a Crossover between it and Disney's Gargoyles series.

But thanks to the Disney execs and the lackluster performance of the original Movie (Atlantis: The Lost Empire). All Disney Animators were to complete were 3 episodes... But in the end, the 3 episodes that came out of that became Atlantis 2: Milo's Return.

In short, two good ideas, done in by the lack of enthusiastic viewers..

Defiantly The Oblongs tops this list. I also loved Father of the Pride (I still have that DVD too)

Cybersix comes to my mind. A fun little series based off, from my understanding, a pretty dark comic.

It had top notch animation, everything else, i feel was pretty average, writing, voice acting, etc. But I was totally enthralled by its spectacular animation. I guess its kind of good it only lasted one season, I can not imagine they'd be able to keep up the high quality of animation for more then 13 episodes.

I can assume it failed because boys who ruled the Saturday Morning line up back in the day, didn't want to watch a super hero show about a chick.

The show itself was a success on Canada's Teletoon network but bombed horribly when it got put on FOX Kids. FOX tried to go for a lot of new shows during their infamous X-SPEED era only to return to their tried and true formula of Digimon and Power Rangers. :sweat:

I don't what the deal was with Catscratch, but it literally faded off the face of television.

One minute, Nick was advertising it as their newest biggest hit, and just as they were getting used to the writing and artwork and settling down, it disappeared without reason.

I heard all these hiatus stories and whatnot, but Dave the Barbarian was said to be on hiatus and we still haven't heard from it.

Saying a show is on hiatus can also be a bush beating excuse saying that the show was cancelled. I've seen this happen many times.

Well, there's Detention, Cybersix, Megas XLR, Clerks, Invader Zim and Mission Hill.

I always felt that those shows deserve a second season. And what bothers me is that despite any sort of praise some shows although Detention had mixed reactions, the networks just don't bother to renew them.

I guess they didn't bring them back probably because of ratings, delays, etc. You know?

That show did get a second season, but it: 1) was cancelled halfway through production, so quite a few episodes were left unfinished. And: 2)was delayed aired until August 2006...and it was only on Nicktoons Network. :shrug:

The 1986 series Galaxy High only got one season. It definately could have had another one, but it was probably ahead of its time...

I can't believe that I forgot to include Clone High. :sweat: I just remembered: The Buzz on Maggie. That was an interesting show but it got cancelled after season 1.
