Hello all. I am buying a DS as a gift for a 6 year old first time gamer. I was hoping I could get some recomendations on games for this age group. I know what games I like, but I am not sure what is good for a beginner without buying some cheap license tie-in dud. Thanks.

New Super Mario Bros. It's easy, fun, and it's Super Mario Bros.

Wario Ware: Touched! has so much variety that someone of almost any age or skill level can find something they like in it.
New Super Mario Bros or Super Princess Peach....can't go wrong with Mario series games....both are fun,and not too difficult to beat...
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl....Pokemon's pretty easy to get into/understand(there's some reading involved, but nothing too difficult),and I always see young kids playing it on their DS systems when I'm out shopping...
Meteos Disney Magic....kinda like Tetris(where you have to clear blocks from the screen before they get too high),but with Disney characters...

Any of the Pokemon games are a good ways to go.
The Harvest Moon games, Legend of Zelda, anything with Mario on it, or MegaMan. And I'd think the Advance War games.
While he may not be very good at them, back when I was a kid, I didn't know very much about this stuff, and it wasn't until I was older before I actually figured out how to beat games anyway.

Elite Beat Agents. Period. Its got tunes for just about everybody. If my 8 year old brother can kick butt and beat the game on Cruisin' mode. Then any other kid can make it.

Stole mine. I got Red when I was 6 and it was the best game ever to me at the time. Very popular with kids
Mario Kart DS, because it's a pretty easy game and not too hard to play

I would think the "Imagine" games is great for kids. Or any game by Destineer...

At work (I work at a games shop) the most popular games for a girl that age are the 'Imagine' series like fashion designer and babies, the Bratz games, animal games like My first Dophlin and the Catz games etc. Though I always try and get them to buy something decent like Pokemon lol

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate it. While I am still looking, we did pick up "Drawn to Life." I read some reviews that said this was a good beginner game for kids. Thanks again.

There's a Spongebob edition of that coming you know. Same game, different look.
Obviously, there's also Nintendogs, though it might depend on how much of a dog person the kid is.
