I've always thought of One Piece as a bunch of mini-mangas with only the main cast tying everything together.

It never was a traditional shounen, compared to its brethren. If anything, it seems to be harking back to the old serials, stuff like Horatio Hornblower, etc. Same characters, different settings for the most part. There's an overlying story, but it's secondary.

And the story is stronger for it.

It is likely meant as a contrast against Naruto.

I like the point about how One Piece basically takes after a serial series...very well said. There's great story and development, but at the same time it is literally and figuratively a cruise that's in no hurry to get to its end. And the longer the cruise goes on the more sights we get to see, and the bigger the world gets, and the more we come to appreciate the whole thing. The journey really is worth more than the goal.

Well it had been strongly implied that Doflamingo's "business" involved human trafficking, but it's good to get confirmation. It just confirms to me that Doflamingo will be a major antagonist in the upcoming arc on Fishman Island, which is where I figured he would catch up with Luffy.

I bet Whitebeard's war on the World Government will be the event that saves Luffy from the full wrath of Marines after he pulls off this little stunt of defying the nobles in the next few chapters.

Well, the last bit of the chapter convinced me that Luffy is going to go ape***** on the nobles to get Camie back, and have enough time to go and try to save his brother.

About time that they get to face the admirals again, since it seems that they have been taking the Shi-something-or-other on left and right.

Well, something tells me each of the Admirals may have planet devastating power considering how easily Luffy was beaten all but a month or so ago, One Piece time. While Luffy may have proven himself strong enough to defeat zombie giants and thousands of shadows we still cannot be sure if the Navy took Moria that seriously. And with the Navy seemingly busy with the Four Emperors and Luffy's old man I'm thinking they'll just say screw the nobles and leave Flamingo to deal with trouble considering how he is likely the leader if not an important part of this slave trading business.

This has to be a step up from Eines lobby, I think. After that incident Aokiji let things slide, but I don't think he or anyone else will be allowed to overlook the issue this time. Even if the marines are tied up with Whitebeard or Dragon, I'm sure an Admiral will be sent after them to respond as soon as its possible to do so.

This does have the ingredients for an epic arc. All these different high-bounty pirates, Gold Roger's first mate, the chaos that's about to ensue thanks to Luffy's actions...depending on how it goes, I daresay it could become my favorite.

Yeah, Luffy has opened a pandora's box by punching out Saint Carlos but at least the jerk deserved it. What I like is how biggotry is brought to the forefront in two major story arcs now and it's nice to know Nami is forgiving enough to forgive a quasi-manchild like Hatchi. I sare say that if he gets kidnapped again she'd lead a storm or two on his behalf but I don't quite see that happening. Probably while the island is in choas Silvers will get the Straw Hat's to Fishman Island to hide for a little bit and possibly in an Admiral's stead Jimbei will be sent to deal with them for as I understand it the Admiral's may be the only one's on the Emperor's levels.

The fallout from Luffy's punching out a Noble begins. The appearence of an Admiral is almost certain and even worse, the auction house is in chaos. Law and Kid are quite amused. Additionally, Rayleigh escapes, having stolen the money he had allowed himself to be captured for in the first place. Using his spirit force he knocks out the guards and tell Luffy that he has been waiting for him.

I think my most anticipated aspect of this arc is not the inevitable fighting that's coming, but the prospect of more details about Gold Roger. Fun stuff.

Fun chapter, I love how one noble after another gets beaten up or squashed somehow. The transgressions are piling up left and right.

Seems like the Marines originally came for Rayleigh, which works out nicely. I'll be interested to see which Pirates end up getting in on the action--you just know that's going to happen. I'm also very curious about the giant with Rayleigh. They seem to know each other, which makes me wonder if he was also a member of Gold Roger's crew.

Coverstory: The day to leave the hospital

Law: ...It seems today is the day where I keep coming across unexpected big shots.

The scene changes to the Strawhats. They arrive at the rip-off Bar.
Everyone' surprised to learn that Raleigh was Roger's first mate. Sanji asks "Why didn't you get caught?"

Raleigh: Roger wasn't caught... he gave himself in. The World Government may have released to the public as if they had caught him, just to show their strength to the world. About 4 years before that day of execution....Roger was diagnosed with an incurable disease.
Even the mighty Roger suffered greatly at the disease that no one could cure or delay. But then, Crocus of the Twin Point, who was both a renouned lighthouse keeper and a doctor, knew the way to ease the pain. We asked him to come with us for our last sail, and 3 years later, while maintaining Roger's life... we finally achieved what was said to be impossible: The completion of Grand Line.

Sanji: And after you conquered the seas..?
Raleigh: The story starts from there... Roger was called the Pirate King by everyone by then... he wasn't always a Pirate King... A title such as that has no meanings to a man who is going to die. But... Roger was happy. He was a man that liked tok make a big show out of everything. He did so with partying, he did so with battles. He seemed to be enjoying even his futureless fate, as part of life.
Eventually by the Captain's order, the Roger pirates disbanded, and everyone were separated. One after another, they dissapeared.
I don't even hardly know where the crewmates that we trusted our lives with each other have gone to. And after an year passed after the disbanding... Roger turned himself in, and was arrested... and public execution was announced at his home town of Rogue Town where he was born. That day, in that square.. I hear many young faces of now renounced pirates were to be seen. The whole world was watching the execution of the Pirate King. ....I didn't go. This is the last words he told me.

Roger: I'm not gonna die you know, partner?

Raleigh: I'm sure both the World Government and the Marines were astonished. The public execution they held as a warning to the other pirates turned into the start of the Great Pirate Age just from the short phrases uttered by Roger!! In the last seconds of his life, he turned a small flame of life that's about to fade... into a massive firestorm that engulfs the world. I never laughed so hard in my life that day. I also never cried so much than that night... or drank so much. He was my captain, and he lived his life beautifully...!!!

Then, Raleigh talks to Luffy about Shanks.

Meanwhile in Grove 27.... Kizaru is spotted coming riding a cannonball.

Are you forgetting that Lucci created a freaking exploding variation of Shigan? And exploding variation of Rankyaku isn't that farfetched. Provided that the "Kizaru invented Rokushiki" theory is actually true. Personally, I think we can do without another ability user. Oda's gotta be running out of super power ideas soon for one and two, I'm missing the days when the major villain of each arc didn't all have Devil Fruits. Still, gotta love Kizaru.

There was no exploding version, there was one that was fiery but that' no different from Sanji's fiery kick. He's using speed to create a heated attack.

The other previous chapters rocked when I saw those rotten monster nobles got crushed by Luffy & Usopp(since they're worst than Arlong/Spandam:mad:) and T.Law & Capt.Kidd got really awesome powers to crush marines & T.Law's bear Bepo is so cool & my favorite kickbutt bear character since Bearsy while Jewelry Bonney is my favorite supernovae pirate girl character due to her DF powers manipulating age to kick marinebutt,hehehe.

Basil: Survival chance of death.....0%!! I don't know such man. Ask someone else

Coverstory: Bruno is writing the score (for bowling) and noticed something...

Kuma's attacks Luffy and co aggressively
They dodge the attacks at first, then blow him away with combination attack

Besides, he didn't use shockwaves nor does he have paws...!! Buf if this is a fake one, that poses another problem.
It means, there's two of someone as strong as him.

Kuma reappears, destroying the wall. You can see something (his inside?) on him.

Meanwhile... Urouge was starting his retaliation.

I think Kizaru will go after Luffy next, Law and Kidd will probably leave the island as soon as their done with that Kuma Clone, but Luffy will be on the island for 3 days, within Kizaru's reach, i dont see how he can possibly avoid Kizaru + his nephew + more Pacifista and escape, not with Kizaru's speed of light super fast moves.

Robin tries to move the fallen Zoro with her hana hana ability

i wouldnt count Dragon as part of "the old age" since apparently he isnt a pirate, hant been mentioned as part of the old age by anyone and the fact that hes only become an actual player (in the world) like 6 years ago.

also, as a revolutionary hed have a big part (or should have) in creating the new age, therefore being part of it.

Well, they lost against Ao Kiji...

True, but in that fight they were able to partially able to save face by saving Robin from being smashed into a million pieces and escaping with their lives. In this case, not a single member was able to escape Kuma's power and Luffy was completely unable to keep any of his crew members from being taken from him.

This also seems to mark the first time Luffy has been completely broken in spirit, outside of the Perona's ghost powers. Even though it is practically guaranteed that the Strawhats will get back on their feet, this episode may take a bit longer for the the usually optimistic Luffy to brush off.

Oda freaks out at the picture and then plugs the next volume where he says he'll appear.

Brook is 88 years old and he's 2 meters and 66cm tall. If you include his hat, add roughly another 20cm.

So maby it was cause their spirits werent strong enough yet to hanndle it cause they were knew. Cause when Reileigh knocked out all those guy at the slave auction house and Kid & Laws crews werent knocked out, he said it was cause they were the real deal, so maby they just had strong spirits, unlike the new guys on Whitebeards ship. So thats why i think Haki users attack people spirits with their attacks.

so Reighleigh fought Kizaru using spirit, he wasnt attacking his body but his spirit instead.

i think thats also how Sentomaru's able to hurt Luffy's body, hes not attacking just his body, but his spirit too, and im assuming his spirits damage is shown on his body.

Great. Here come the new crew member theories. I think I'll wait until things pick up again and if this Amazon woman has the requirements for a crewmate.
But this whole idea of the Strawhats scattered every where that I'm hearing theories on is basically telling me that this arc is going to last forever.

Yea the Strawhat Crew really don't need another member at this point...Luffy already has all the crew positions he wanted fill..and besides do we really need another Nami-look alike..the first one was Caimie and now this amazon who looks like she has the possibility of becoming a Tsundere? Please Oda show us the fate of the other crew members before continuing on with Luffy's journey...

Well, I seriously doubt that Luffy is going to recruit right off the bat, especially with his crew in shambles. Though I could see Luffy recruit more characters after they lick their wounds. After such a humiliating defeat, I'm sure Luffy would figure they need all the help they can get in the New World.

Also, while I normally consider the inclusion of Amazons to be an overdone concept in adventure stories, I think Luffy's sole presence will make it interesting. He's much like Jerry Lewis' "Kid" character when it comes to women--completely clueless. Also, One Piece's trademark weirdness should offer some laughs. The spoiler bit about the Amazon's trying in vain to remove the "mushroom" from between Luffy's legs is among the most risque I've seen in the series thus far.
