I know most Bat-fans hate Shumacher's "Batman and Robin" of 1997, so I was just wondering...
Does anyone like this campy fare?
I like it okay for what it is- and I enjoy anything Batman, so I don't despise it. Does anyone else like it?
Please- I don't want to turn this into a Batman and Robin bashing thread, so if you didn't like the film either don't resond or keep your complaints minimal, pointing out what you did like.

What I didn't like:
The portrayals of Ivy and Bane.
Bane was wasted as a "minor" character and thus will never be featured as a major one.
Too many heroes/villains (the same goes for Returns & Forever).
Inacuracies reguarding the characters of Batgirl and Bane.
Some of the acting in the supporting cast.
Robin taller than Batman.
What I liked:
Schumacher's visual style, especially the motercycle races, Ivy's hideout, and the chase sceen on the statues.
Swartzenegger's portrayal of Freeze, I know your all groaning, but personally I think he fits the character like a glove, and I usually don't like him.
I think Clooney and O'Donnel both delivered good performances as well.
It (with it's companion, Forever) is a new reimagining on the Batman Mythos.
It's fun.

Actually, when I first saw it, I considered it the sequel to the 60's Batman Movie. I didn't consider it a sequel to Batman and Batman Returns like most of you here do. The reason I liked it is because it brought the kid inside me out, and I enjoyed it for what it was.
If you think about it, all the campiness in the 60's Batman movie, is brought to Batman and Robin. More than 2 villains, short and corny lines, etc. Heck, even Robin said "Holy ______ Batman!" :D
So, in my opinion, I consider this film the "present version" of the 60's movie. The visual style was cool, I liked the special effects, and it was all good. So, my advice to people that are going to watch it, consider it a sequel to the 60' movie, and enjoy it, don't nitpick everything there. I think that will make the film much better than you think it was.

About the only thing I liked about Batmand and Robin was that Robin was in it....and even then, I wasn't happy about the costume,lo. It was just a whole bunch of things that together, really made this movie....bad, since I can't think of any other word to use at the moment. Freeze was all right, except for the lame puns, Ivy just didn't seem like the Ivy she should have been, and when Bane is rid of his venom, I don't know, but it looked stupid. And don't gt me started on Batgirl/Barb Gordon and the whole neice of Alfred crap and stuff. Even if for some reason I had liked those things, there is one thing that has been getting worse and worse with the last two Batman movies, and that is, Gotham City. It went from the essence of the city itself in Batman, with it being dark and mysterious, crime ridden and dangerous, to a neon light show. Giant buildings on statues, people running around wearing every neon color imaginable, it was like one big lame circus on drugs. But the Batmobile and motorcycles were cool :p

It was a bad call, Ripley..
Clearly aiming at the camp 60's show than Burton's dark offering - a fatal mistake. Personally, I didn't find Clooney fitted the Wayne role, that was a problem, I thought Thurman was DREADFUL - what the hell was that accent? Her character had a pointless plot and Bane's use was woeful. Finally I'd like to gripe about the STUPID conclusion to the Alfred storyline - the studio just didn't have the guts to follow that one through..
On the other hand, it's still fun - I like Arnie, he makes me laugh. I don't think there is a single sentence he utters which has no 'ice' jokes.
The fight sequences were silly but in a fun sort of way and Dick was palitable as was Barbara.
I remember finding amusing when I saw it at the cinema. Disappointing, but I had a good chuckle at the throught of the livid Batfans who would be storming out of the cinema at the same time..

It has two or three good moments. But Bane was made into a bumbling hitman, Batman made jokes, and there was just so much CRAP. The special effects were awful, such as when Batman leapt into the air. You could almost SEE the strings. And when items flew into the air and there was a cartoon sound? The actual story wasn't bad, but the dialogue was terrible.

Oh, I know I never saw the strings in a John Woo film  .
I really like the "blacklit" Gotham, it's apockolyptic in a different way, as is the new architecture. I never expected consistency, seeing as Batman 1989's Gotham was nothing like Return's Gotham anyway.
I forgot to mention the use on a clip from Rankin/Bass's A Year Without A Santa Clause. That was very funny.

Agreed. Everyone says the plot is horrible- I don't think the plot is horrible, it's the dialogue. Considering they had to include three villains origins, Batgirl's first appearence, a sick Alfred, and dissention between Bruce and Dick, the plot is okay, but the lines are just crappy, especially with Batman and Freeze. They're like a couple of smartasses, spouting one-liners and puns back and forth.
I think it was a mistake including Bane in the film at all- why? There is no way you can make a coherent movie featuring Mr. Freeze, Ivy, and Bane, portaying them all well. That's a good three hours by itself, forget Batgirl and a good action-packed story. I've always thought the best way to go would be to have each villain featured in their own movie. That's just me though.
The single fact that bothered me the most was Batgirl's origin though- Alfred's niece. Hello! Where did that come from? Now I'm going to bow out, because I said I didn't want bashing and that's all I'm doind...
I don't mind it that much though. I mean- it's campy, and it was supposed to be campy, what can we say? Not the gritty Batman we all like the best, but I consider it to be enjoyable.

That's hitting the nail right on the head. Batman 1989 had Eckard the dirty cop, Bob the Joker's right hand man, and that mob boss played by Jack Palance (I forget his name), but the Joker never had to share a spotlight with any of them. They were supporting characters and it worked out well. Then Ruturns started right in with the "We've got to out do the last film" attitude, not only do we get Catwoman and the Penguin but Christopher Walken's "Max Shrek"(Ugh!) character all trying to push eachother off the stage. The result is an inconsistant movie that makes absolutely no sense. And the syndrome continued to degrade in the coming sequals until we end up with the mess that is Batman & Robin. They shouldhave called it Batman & Robin & Batgirl & Poison Ivy & Mr. Freeze & Bane &...

In twenty years or so, when I buy the Special Edition DVD ('cause there'll be one by then, ya just know it), I'm sure I'll love it as a classic like the 60's Batman movie. Right now, it still sucks.

What I Didn't Like:
1. Alicia Silverstone played Batgirl
2. Uma Thurman played Ivy
3. Arnold Swar--(I'm not even gonna try and spell his name)...played Mr. Freeze.
4. Bane could have run circles around the movie but instead he was a green gorilla that obeyed Poison Ivy.
5. Batgirl is not Gordon's daughter.
6. The Bat-Skies were a real retarded touch. Like watching Super Friends...seriously.
7. The part where Robin is "playing" hockey with the bad guys.
8. The falling part at the first seemed unlikely..(Wouldn't the surf boards go flying right underneath there feet...how would they stay on)
9. The crappy acting of various charactors: characters such as Batgirl, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, (definitly her! She was the worst) the two scientists at Wayne Tech...(or whatever the place is called) and the news reporter. (She sucked)
10. The stupid girl friend sub-plot was pointless and didn't even have an interesting ending.
11. The retarded scene when Mr. Freeze froze Gotham City...wouldn't everyone had died?
12. Robin sure recovered quick when he was thawed.
13. Just happened to have a "Bat-Laser" on him.
14. The props and backgrounds were hideous.
15. The fighting scenes: Corny.
16. Mr. Freeze's costume looked stupid and so did his brainless henchmen.
17. Robin was a more exciting character in this movie than Batman was, and that's just sad.
18. The scene where Bane was fighting Batgirl and Robin...he could have broken their necks!
19. The best character in the whole entire movie was Alfred...that's not supposed to be that way.
What I liked about it:
1. That Black woman that was one of Freeze's henchman. She was hot!
Hmm...can't think of anything else I liked about it.

My major issue with it was that they rewrote the history of Batgirl. That just irked me to no end.
Otherwise I liked it, though I do think Kilmer made a better Batman than Clooney.

I agree with alot of JLL's reasons for hating it.
Plus everything was too flashy, I don't like how we went from very dark in 1989 to flashier than a pop star music video on MTV.
George Clooney was an ok Bruce when it came to moodiness, but I prefer Michael Keaton. Although they need a better Robin.
Bane from the movie - No brain. :(
About the "air surfing" technically some of the moves they did would've sent the boards hurdling right above'em, it could be considered they have magnetic grasps on their boots? Well they have those blades, why not magnets? :D
