Could these Cartoon Classics DVDs offered at Flash Back Entertainment (http://www.flashbackentertainment.com) be possibly duplicates from THE GOLDEN AGE OF LOONEY TUNES LD sets? It sure seems like it. Why if they released a few more I'd believe it! Once more information on these DVDs are out, including the price, I know what I'm doing with my graduation money.....:)

Yeah, I'm still waiting for a response, I hope they aren't expensive, seems silly to pay a lot if you have no clue about print quality.

I'd swear some of these are even in the same order they appeared on the GOALT sets.

These each contain 10 'toons (plus 'intro' and 'credits'). the LD's typically contain 14.
plus, there are only 10 vols (currently), = tot 100 'toons

Still, it's a good start - Hello, WB, are you listening?

WB could be doing this under a different name, so maybe that's why there's non-PD cartoons on them. How else could they put stuff like "Mexican Joyride", "A Feather in His Hare", "Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt", and "Plane Daffy" onto a DVD not by WB? Also note that the DVDs are rated PG.

"A Wild Hare" is on one of the DVD's...
I think these are licenced by WB, since there's too many still-copyrighted cartoons on those lists.
The only way we can find out is to buy a DVD and see...

They don't look licensed to me, but then, in Australia perhaps the terms of copyright are different, and the cartoons weren't renewed as they've been in the USA and Europe (though this is just speculation; I have absolutely no idea for sure).

Well, I don't know anything about print quality, but somebody over in the alt.animation.warner-bros newsgroup has apparently bought the DVD that features "Wild Hare" and says that it's actually the original "A Wild Hare," with the original title card, and not the blue ribbon version!
Also, the guy who bought the DVD says that, even though it comes from Australia, the DVD is not regionalized, meaning it can play on any player.

I finally got a response from the web site about the cartoons on their DVD's:
"Dear Greg, all of the cartoons you refer to are over 50 years old.
Section 94 of the Australian Copyright Act 1968 specifies that the
duration of copyright in cinematographic films runs for 50 years
from the date of original publication of the film. As stated in all
cases, the date of original publication is prior to 1950. This means
that all the films are more than 50 years old and therefore are not entitled to copyright protection under the Australian Copyright Act. Accordingly, all the films are in the public domain in Australia and are free to be sold by Flashback in Australia."
Now the question still remains who feels brave enough to buy one and take it out for test spin?

Yick. These Cartoon Crazys are like 5 bucks a piece x 10? Is it worth it for 100 not-officially-released cartoons without any special DVD extras and below the quality that WB would release? Heck no, i don't think so. They'd just start collecting dust when the official DVD's start coming out... eventually. I see these discs good for anyone with extra money to blow and/or anyone who's impatient. To me it's a waste of money. That's just my opinion. But if it floats yer boat go ahead and get 'em.

I'm not buying these either. Think about it. These DVDs were probably struck from laserdiscs (ACTUAL OFF-THE-SHELF LASERDISCS, NOT LD MASTERS!!!) of the GAOLT set. So avoid these like wildfire.
