What is your favorite scene ever in an animated series or movie? And why do you like it?

You want me to name just one? I'll get back to you when I can trim my list down to a few dozen or so.

It doesn't have to be just one...can be several...as long as you can explain why.

This sounds vaguely familiar to me, like there might already be a thread with this topic. At any rate, these scenes are at the very top of my all-time favorite:

In Spirited Away, the scene on the train. It's stunningly beautiful and somehow sad at the same time. I've always assumed that those shadow people, silently riding the train like bored commuters on their way to work, were the souls of the recently departed on their way to whatever comes next. The beauty of that scene has left me in tears on more than one occasion.

In My Neighbor Totoro, when Totoro meets the girls at the bus stop in the rain. It's a nearly dialog-free scene that speaks volumes about the characters and their motivations in this wonderful film.

What's Opera Doc? in it's entirety. The 50's design of the cartoon makes me smile and smile.

Yep, I did it, sometime last year. Don't worry, though, Tednut, it's been ages, so I'm cool with you making a new variant of the thread.

Instead of bringing up all of my old choices, I just want to give my props to "The Rabbit of Seville", which I consider to be Chuck Jone's true opera-parodying epic. It's just so well-animated, well-scored, and down-right-hysterical, anything written about it down about it since can say better about ti then I can.

The scene from Little Orphan Hero of season two of Drawn Together where Spanky Ham, Clara, Foxxy Love, and Ling Ling are all staring at the telephone while it rings and just generally acting like retards. That was actually a spoof of a Muppet segment from Sesame Street, involving alien thingies and a telephone.

One I can think of from the top of my head was also in the Drawn Together episode Little Orphan Hero.

It was at the very beginning that had Captain Hero crying over several things, and one of them was him dropping his balloon and his ice cream floating away. I laughed. So hard.

And him cutting an onion happily, whistling, without a tear. I expected him to chop off his finger and then realized what he was cutting and laughed.

"Go Back! And tell Winfield to watch! Tell him... Tell him Mathew Marcus knew how.... To die."

One of the earliest scenes that stuck with me, and honestly, still one of the best. From ExoSquad. Captain Marcus--your standard always-gives-the-wrong-advice hot-head--had lead the heros to disaster, and has decided to take the fall. So from the smoking wreckage of his flagship's bridge, he makes his last stand. Alone. Done on a tv animation budget, with your standard tv voice actors... But still effective. And I still love the way the voice got haggard at the end.

Most of my choices would be Batman/Superman/JLU the animated series.

One in particular would be "Question Authority" episode of JLU. There are at least two scenes in which the Question gives speeches...one to Superman about his killing Lex Luthor in the Justice Lords universe and the scene where he gives a speech to Lex Luthor about why he must die. That whole episode was so moving to me it still gives me goose pimples when I watch it. This is currently my most watched DVD. For those of you who are not JLU fans I suggest you watch the entire Cadmus arc at least once...all the way to the Batman Beyond ending.

In the American Dragon episode Homecoming where Jake finds out Rose sold him out (unbeknownst to him it was not willingly) and his friend Spud asks."Dude, did you find Rose?" Breath-taking,literally.

Generally moments that stun me to the core are my favorites.

The Futurama episode Jurrasic Bark is pretty shocking too at the end.

Invader Zim's Dark Harvest - the entire episode scarred me in a good way as a kid. The chase scene was amazing as well. I have yet to see any other kid's cartoon pull this type of thing off.

She-Ra's transformation sequence pretty much defined my love for animation, for a time. It'll always be in my heart *makes a fist over his chest*

All of Sleeping Beauty is just lovely. You can watch it 25 times and still keep finding goregous animation and art where you weren't looking before.

I love the last shot of Nightmare Before Christmas with Sally and Jack on the snow-covered hill. Love how that hill unwraps itself to allow Jack to walk down it early in the picture. Just awesome stuff.

Team America. I mean, if you're going to do puppets, do them like this :)

The power of the stone in Secret of NIHM. That's a classic.

The jerky dancing of the elves in Rudolph.

Ursula shaking it for the camera. Ariel moving Eric's hair while he awakens. Ariel's hair period.

Two-Face looking up into lightening from B:TAS.

Pocahontas as a dry pastel drawing in Colors of the Wind.

I could keep going...but I won't :)

The house moving/power of the Stone sequence in Secret of NIMH. A very powerful scene as Mrs. Brisby's desire to save her children allows her to tap into the Stone's power, lifting her cinderblock house from the mud and moving it safely to its new resting spot. Jerry Goldsmith's score only makes it better; I just have to listen to that particular track on my CD and I get chills.

"Someone's Waiting for You" from The Rescuers. This scene never fails to pull at my heartstrings, from Penny standing on the deck of the riverboat crying to her saying her prayers and praying for someone to find her bottle.

My favorite scenes are:

He-Man: In the end of the Sh'Gora episode when Skeletor & his crew were accidently transported back to Snake Mountain when he yells "You'll pay for this He-Man!!!"

Looney Tunes: When Bugs Bunny beats that opera singer when he's disguised as Leopold when he makes him sing that high note the longest time & when the boulder fell on him at the end, so hilarious.

Ren & Stimpy: When the big monkey makes Ren eat that big bug, so gross & hilarious when Stimpy told him to devour it:D.

The Tick: The Tick thinks Proto-Clown is a good clown when he gets beat up for it, my favorite episode.

Ace Ventura: Whenever Ace makes his butt talk on every episode which had me on the floor laughing:p.

King of the Hill: In episode Boxing Luanne when Luanne boxes against George Foreman's daughter which that girlfight was so incredible/intense.

South Park: In the Awesom-O episode when Butters gets back at Cartman with the humiliating tape(GO Butters!!!) & in Scott Tennerman Must Die when Cartman makes Scott eat his parents in chili which was so evil, diabolical, nasty & pure genius of Cartman's evil plan.

Family Guy: When Stewie beats the crap out of Brian & when Chris smacks Brian with a chair when his face is all messed up which those bashing scenes were so hilarious, but poor Brian being the bashing victim.

TMNTFF: When the Ninja Turtles first faced the Dark Turtles(my favorite villains ever) & especially when Mikey & Dark Mikey had the same tongue reaction which is comedy gold.

Transformers - Animated: Optimus finds Sentinel's head & starts laughing & when he pounds Sentinel's body while fighting Headmaster which Optimus is totally enjoying this since that butthead Sentinel totally got his just desserts in that scene of the Headmaster's Return episode & the scene when Starscream gets beaten by Megatron & thrown out 3 times which was hilarious.

One Piece: When Luffy crushes Arlong for saving Nami, Robin giving that butthole Spandam a million smacks & a backbone spine break at the end which he totally deserved it, & when Usopp battles against Perona & beats her since Usopp rocked in that battle scene in the Thriller Bark arc.

Rave Master: The sad scene when Haru Glory's dad died for saving his son Haru after the major battle against King Gale.

Naruto: The Sakura vs. Ino catfight which that fight scene rocked when the 2 rival friends fighting their hardest to win for Sasuke & when Naruto fights against Dark Sasuke when they both go full demon in the Sasuke Retrieval arc.

Bleach: When Uryuu beats that psycho Mayuri which caused him to lose his Quincy powers & when Ichigo went full Hollow to kick that jerk Byakuya's butt was the best fight scenes ever:D.

I know this seems like kind of a bad moment for a favorite animation moment thread but In the last episode of the first season of The Batman "The Clayface of Tragedy" when Bennett and Yin are in the locker room and Batman's been knocked out. Bennett, as Clayface, is about to smash Bats, and Yin stops him and Bennett says my favorite lines in the entire series:
"You, defending the Batman? I never thought Id see the day. Yin, whats become of us?"

To me, that not just speaks volumes about the show but also about real life. Nothing ever stays the same. Everything changes. You lose and gain friends, and that, all around, life is tough.

Off-Topic: Farewell dude. Hope you find a better place to hang out.

On-Topic: The pepper spray scene in the "Wrong Address" episode segment of Chowder. Repetitive, by really funny. :)

Another one of my favorite scenes is from Invader Zim when Gir goes into "defensive" mode:

Some alien: Get into the sack! ('tis a kidnapping)
Zim: Gir! Defensive mode!
Gir (in his more robotic, red "serious" mode): Yes sir. *jumps into sack*

That cracks me up every time.:anime:

And that was mean of Bugs to destroy poor Giovanni Jones' voice in making the poor man sing that high note, just to make the place crash down!! Downright mean, I mean, Giovanni will never sing again, now that he lost his voce forever from all that singing that high pitch.

Back on topic: G.I. Joe's Once Upon A Joe in which Hector "Shipwreck" Delgado tells a story to children with those zany G.I. Joe characters in those Looney Tunes esque looks.

Reboot: Showdown. The battle between Matrix and Megabyte. Something you never expected that you WANTED to see, but when you finally do see it, it feels so awesome. Tony Jay's performance in that episode cements him as the best villain actor in history for me. And the writing only helps him in that regard.

Beast Wars: Agenda Part 1. When the Maximals and Decepticon do their big dive into the predacon base, the theme song remix that plays is just amazing.

I might think of more later, but there's a place to start. :D

Both that and What's Opera Doc have too many gay overtones.

That argument is getting really old. Just because Bug dressed up as a woman in order to make a fool out of Elmer has nothing to do with either character being gay. It's getting really played out.

And it was okay for Giovanni Jones to utterly thrash Bugs and his instruments just because the poor rabbit decided to sit outside his burrow and enjoy some music? In fact, I'd say Bugs was quite the good sport for letting Jones get away with it not once or twice, but three times.

Unless your being sarcastic.

Oooh, I wish I could get that guy back! You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna dress up as a girl and make him fall in love with me, and then when he has sex with me I take off the disguise and shout "HAH!! You just had sex with a boy!"

The first thing that came to mind. Not to get into some serious debate or anything, I just thought it was a perfect quote match.

I personally liked the scenes in Dragon Ball Z where Goku went Super Saiyan after seeing his friend Krillin get killed by Frieza. That moment that drove Goku to the point where being nice was no longer an option (After all Frieza did kill his best friend), was very powerful scene that made the fight on Namek worth it. Along with the setting of Namek having lightning and depending on the version you watched, the scenary and the music set the mood.
