An animated film that's been in production for since I was in high school.

I hope this movie does good. All they need is to advertise the hell out of it.

The look is giving off a strong Psychonauts vibe.

At least it's not another talking animal movie. And the CG animation looks better than Hoodwinked. Igor might be worth a look.

That is actually a very creative idea.

I absolutely love the look of this! I must say, this is going to be something to look forward to!

The style is really easy on the eyes.

It looks cute :) I'll certainly consider seeing it - at least it's not another wacky animal movie!

As I mentioned in the Igor NYCC panel report (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=23196), my big fear for this movie is that it'll end up like Meet the Robinsons, which was a great concept that was done by really earnest people, and it almost worked. The problem was that it seemed to spend too much time stuffing the movie with good ideas and not enough time developing them. MtR was good, but too chaotic and random to be truly great, and I'm concerned that Igor turn out the same way.

Still, at the very least they're going off in a different direction than the pack and there were certainly laughs to be found in the trailer. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

Looks pretty good, then again, I say that about pretty much every single animated flim and series. That I've seen anyway.

What company is making this?

MGM. It's being produced by The Weinstein Company, the same company that gave us Hoodwinked.

The character designs are pretty decent, the voice of Igor I think needs a more Peter Lorre push to it. looks much better than Space Chimps which looks bland as hell.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing this one next weekend. Chris McKenna of American Dad fame wrote it, so hopefully the gags are pretty well done.

It may look bad, but it'll probably make money since it's the ONLY family friendly movie in theaters at the moment.

Been looking forward to this one for a while now. About time we got to see another Igor character in a movie again. And of course John Cleese as a mad scientist sounds very interesting.

The film seems to have an interesting premise, but the trailers...sigh...fart jokes, burp jokes, and not one funny one-liner...kinda reminds me of Doogal...

The character designs remind me of Tim Burton's stuff. The movie itself has a good premise and it looks pretty funny too. Let's hope for the best.

It does have a Tim Burton knock-off feel to it, just like that Edgar and Ellen show.

Edgar and Ellen wasn't just pulled out of nowhere though. It's based on a series of books.

I keep seeing commercials on every channel for Igor, no matter what type of channel it is. Chiller, SciFi, Lifetime, etc. so it seems like they're already advertising the hell out of it. I just hope it does well in the theatre.

Y'know, as a fan of monster movies and animation, I'm pretty jazzed about this (however, I should note that the hunchbacked assistant should really be named "Fritz", not "Igor", but that's beside the point).

Between this and next year's Monsters vs Aliens, it may turn out to be a good time for animated monster movie send-ups.

I've been seeing the ads for this thing everywhere, and yet it's generated zero interest in me. It looks like just another in a growing line of CGI films that appears out of nowhere and disappears just as quickly, like Space Chimps and Fly Me To The Moon. The animation design looks rather unappealing, and a clip shown on The Tonight Show a couple weeks ago was equally-uninteresting.

Which I find annoying. I mean, looking at the trailers, you can PLAINLY see how random, unrelated sentences were strung together in an attempt to make bad jokes. It's really quite pitiable.

Burton knock-off? Has no one played Psychonauts? :crying:

If anything, this is the most visually appealing CGI film this year.

I get the Psychonauts and Tim Burton feel, but if they really wanted to go that way, Igor himself wouldn't be so "adorable".

From what I've seen in the trailers, John Cusack shouldn't be a voice actor.

A routine CG-animated family film offering, “Igor” does have the novelty of being something darker to offer the little ones as the Halloween season begins to creep into view. Embracing monster movie motifs from the classic era of cinema, “Igor” has charm but misses a grand opportunity to evoke the world of James Whale when it would rather crib blatantly from Tim Burton.
In a far away land called Malaria, evil deeds are encouraged by King Malbert (voiced by Jay Leno) and his population of mad scientists. With the help of their assisting Igors, the scientists are preparing for the annual fair to show off their accomplishments, and the cunning Schadenfreude (Eddie Izzard) is ready to take home the gold again. When Igor (John Cusack) finds his dimwitted master Dr. Glickenstein (John Cleese) killed by his own stupidity, the brilliant young college-educated toady fills in with a special offering: a humongous disfigured monster named Eva (Molly Shannon). Created for nefarious purposes, Igor is shocked to find Eva is a kindly soul who wants nothing more than to become an actress, encouraging the jealous wrath of Schadenfreude and his shape-shifting girlfriend, Jaclyn (Jennifer Coolidge).
While I’m positive it was created with the best of intentions, it’s nearly impossible to examine “Igor” and not notice the serious “Nightmare Before Christmas” similarities that litter the motion picture. The parallels are drawn most severely in the angular, ghoulish character designs, with the animation a near photocopy of Burton’s cult classic, viewed most uncomfortably in the King Malbert character. It’s truly difficult to register the connection as tribute or robbery, and it pulls apart what little fun there is to savor in “Igor.”
Step beyond the mimicry, and “Igor” has other problems to solve, including an irreverent tone lifted from “Shrek” (a screenwriting quirk that needs to be flushed from family films permanently) and some curious targets for jokes, one itchy riff pointed at a Malaria school for blind kids. There’s some great discomfort there.
However, “Igor” has some spring to its step courtesy of the Louis Prima soundtrack and the voice cast, who put in a game effort trying to accurately navigate the screenplay’s sense of humor and keep character arcs clear as a bell. Cusack and Shannon impressed me the most here, making for a sweet odd couple (she’s as big as a house, he’s about as tall as the doorknob), with Cusack showing atypical interest in maintaining an upbeat delivery. Special support comes from Steve Buscemi and Sean Hayes as Igor’s previous failed monster experiments, which come to the aid of their creator with a healthy offering of slapstick and sarcastic wit.
Frantically directed by Anthony Leondis (“Lilo and Stitch 2”), who slings the camera around as if this was a jackhammer Michael Bay animated production, “Igor” has a few fine moments of macabre mischief to enjoy before mediocrity sets in, along with a huge amount of distasteful chaos. “Igor” is crafty, just never triumphant or enchanting, trying too hard to ape previous morbid comedies and not focusing on the obvious problems at hand.

I had the good fortune to actually be in the theater when I watched this movie (most of my reviewing is done at home:sweat: ), and I found myself actually enjoying the movie. I'm surprised, TB, that you compare it to a Nightmare Before Christmas; I did'nt get that feel from it at all (except, as you say, in the King Malbert character). I've always had a weakness for characters like Scampers and Brain, so that may be part of it...

I just saw it today and I thought it was pretty good.

I liked the fun little nods to other classic "mad scientist" related monster movies like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Jacelyn/Heidi), The Invisible Man (Carl Cristall) and The Fly (at the "brainwash"). And I thought Eva was one of the most lovable, charming monsters ever to be bitten by the acting bug.

It's really just a fun little movie about not having to be what others tell you to be, whether evil, dimwitted, a monster or whatever.

Pity that this film is being swept under the rug, 'cause I thought it was a howl. The trailers really sold this short.

The humor in this film really cracked me up.

One of my favorite gags involves Eva auditioning:

Eva: "Shouldn't you say 'cut'?
Igor: "We're not making a film."
Scamper: "Can you imagine a face like that on a 40-foot screen?"

Then it cuts to an extreme close-up of Eva.

The cast was also terrific, even though there were occasions where the lip movements and dialogue didn't match.

Definitely worth seeing if you get the chance.

Thank GOD its not another animal movie! And it looks equel to Hoodwinked.

It looks kindof kiddish.

WAIT! I know wat ur thinking:
"What is this guy saying? If he dosnt like kiddy stuff he shouldnt be talking about cartoons!!"

I know i know! Cartoons arnt known for being adultish. I mean kiddy as in REALLY kiddy. And some of the humor ive heard sounds recycled. IDK. It just looks like somthing id roll my eyes at the whole time.

Although i was suprized when i enjoyed "Bee Movie" (especially with that joke on Mr. Sting and laywers being blood-suckin paracites) so i could be proved wrong.;)
