It's almost that time of year: GRADUATION! a time when you burn all notebooks after they become useless, when you try to sell your books for 3 times of what they're worth, to say "i don't care, I'M GRADUATING!", when you can't wait to try on your cap and gown before discovering it's so huge you can hide a person in it, and finally when you try ever so hard not to trip on stage, shake using the right hand, and flip your tassle to the correct side.

Ah yes, graduation.... I know i'm graduating this saturday with my first degree in psychology (wohoo) 1 degree down, 2 more to go! 2 finals are the only things that are standing in my way till the best day of my life.

so who want's to brag about their upcoming big day?

Well, I happen to be in my Senior year in High School, so I'll be graduating June 29th. Hard to believe I'll be leaving High School forever, hell my entire school district, and college life is getting closer and closer.

What's this years "Graduation" type song?

cathedral

yea what will it be? luckily the class before me snagged the green day song so i didn't have so stand through it. my high school graduation was actually quite an emotional experience for me. i come from a small town and so the class was only 90 or so, so i knew everyone that i was about to never see again. it was a very emotional time for me. i kept looking around at faces that i loved for whatever reason that i knew i would likely never see again. then our graduation song was something by sarah mclachlan, something with the lyrics "can't speak" and "standing on the edge of something much too deep." tell me that wasn't created to elicit some deep feeling. anyway i graduated class of '01 and since have been a college dropout (guess how many times). that is my graduation story.

*bows*
goodnight.

I just wanna add this tid bit of info for the HS grad class. Whatever people you think you will run into after your graduate, you really wont see much of them again, other than facebook and myspace.

Seriously, since ive graduated, ive only seen like 6 or 7 people outta my grad class of 35ish, and ive really only seen them once or twice. And from time to time, i do wonder what everyone is up too now that i havent seen. I still keep up with some people from my school and some of the gossip that goes with it from time to time. But other than that, you wont see much of your fellow classmates, till your reunion :D.

So, enjoy the time with the people you do know and hang with other than your friends...

Words of wisdom there Zeonic Freak.

I actually just graduated from Law School. A little relieved, but still nervous how I did on my paper on reconciling the modern movement of collaboration and mediation with traditional legal practice. Friendlier, less controlling, happier lawyers...possible? Maybe I should make a thread, but I think I'll wait for what the professor has to say first...

I graduated in 2005. Have been in college ever since. College is a million times better. Whats great about college is that you pick your professors, classes, and schedule.

Agreed. Since graduation I've only seen a handful of people. And those handful are the ones that went to the same college as me. Also, as far as college is concerned you MAY see after graduation. I'm already at that point in my college career where I'm doing internships and I keep bumping into people from my classes. So, you may continue to see people from your same major.

Well, I’m graduating June 8th. Still got a ways, but I’ll survive.

My Graduation part is going to be on June 22nd. Everyone’s welcome to come. :D

I’ll be going to Valparaiso University next year, where I will pursue a degree in Meteorology.

Well, that’s my graduation story in short. Happy Graduation Everyone.

I grad the same year also. I do like college, but i really need to get a degree soon and make better money. I pretty much pissed of my last year doing Graphic Design classes because i thought i would get a degree in that. Now, im more set on Simulation and Game Design degree, hopefully between 2 jobs, i can get a job in the game field before i get my degree. The Raleigh NC area has like 30 game companies which include Epic Games, Red Storm, Destineer, Fun Com, a section of EA, and tons more. Plus, there always hiring designers.

As for people in college, 2 of them help me get a job at Play N Trade. One was in my C# programming class for game design and the other was in english. So, im going to see them around for a long while...

Whats great about college is that you pick your professors, classes, and schedule.QFT on college being so much better than high school, though depending on how the school offers class rotations and any outside activities, sometimes your schedule-picking isn't as free as you'd like. I go to a small college and am an athlete so I only have certain times I can take classes and then I'm mostly taking classes for my major now, but only certain ones are offered at a time so my pickings are limited .-.

I went to school across the country and the majority of people in my high school went to college in state so I only see people when I go back on breaks. Of the 420 people in my graduating class, maybe 50 went out of state and most of those were in the region, so yeah, it varies.

Anyway, congrats to everyone graduating this year!

This thread makes me feel old. It has made me realize that this May will mark the ten year anniversary of when I graduated from college. I seriously have no idea where the last decade has gone. The only times I'm reminded of how long it's been are those moments when I run into old college classmates that I haven't seen since school and learn that they have 3 or 4 kids now.

Cherish it while you can everyone. Life really does hit warp speed once you're done with school.

Well the only reason we're graduating in June is because we don't start school until September. Those who graduate in May probably start around Middle August.

I'll miss being a kid and teenager, but I definately won't miss the actual school district themselves. And this is coming from a kid that's nit-picky about obeying all the rules at school. So many bad experiences at school that it rippin' makes me mad just thinking about it.

'Tis why I'm super-hyper about having 1 week left!:D

I'm taking meditation next semester! What's your stance on arbitration clauses?Honestly, I'm not nearly as into arbitration as I am into mediation, both in terms of interest and training. For what they're worth, my impressions tell me arbitration clauses are being overused and manipulated by people in power when they govern large sectors. Labor and consumer arbitration clauses seem especially ripe for corrupt influence. On the other hand, when they are fairly negotiated, for example in joint business ventures, I believe they can represent a very productive and collaborative effort to keep mutual costs down in case things get sour.

Zeonic Freak, don't sweat the "lost time" over graphic design. An understanding of that area is really not going out of style anytime soon, no matter what you do in your career.

It feels worse when you run into someone you grad HS and about half the people you know have gotten married and had kids by now. Then your like "oh yea, i keep forgetting to get one of those things, uh, its on the tip of my tounge... oh yea, a GIRLFRIEND!" Ive been making that a top priority pretty recently.

Well, thats how it is for me, im pretty sure more than half the people i grad /knew through your HS years have GF now and have married them already or are going to sometime soon. Which, makes me feel like ive accomplished less. Then again, i consider a huge accomplishment sticking to school and working 2 jobs that i really like (Play N Trade more since its a game store and ive been trying to work at a game store since i was 15 :D)...

The school year is the SAME LENGTH. There's nothing to feel jealous about. There's nothing to feel sorry about. It's just shifted a little bit from most school schedules.

I finally graduate this summer, so I won't have to listen to this uninformed bias ever again. :) No, KPTitan, I'm not lashing out at you. I'm just lashing out.

According to my friend who works at my old high school, their prom was last Saturday, making skip day last Friday. I thought that was rather late in the year for them to have prom, since I remember mine being in April, but she said it's always been in May.

I didn't do skip day, even though I went to the prom. The school offered a $100 savings bond if you had perfect attendance in your senior year, and they even pre-empted first period for a senior meeting which consisted of the principal thanking us for our attendance and then offering us donuts and coffee.

I don't like the idea of attending on skip day being rewarded. I don't blame the school for wanting to reward us, because it IS a good incentive to keep kids in school, but ideally the skip day shouldn't exist in the first place. Students shouldn't be rewarded for something they're expected to do anyway. It's the day before prom, so what? There's plenty of time in the afternoon to prepare, and almost all day on Saturday before the thing starts.

The saddest thing is, some kids still think skip day is an actual vacation endorsed by the school, and being absent that day doesn't count toward their record or anything. Even worse are the teachers who mostly don't assign anything on that day because they know most of the class is going to skip.

My senior class never ended up having a skip day. People put up fliers to have one a couple of times, but the staff took them down immediately, so we never had one from the lack of coordination :p But, we missed school for our senior trip anyway, so no biggie.

Ours was like...four weeks ago?

Yeah, our prom was two weeks ago, but not alot of seniors could skip since their are rules regarding attendance in school for participating in sporting events. There was a track meet, JV/Varsity softball/baseball games that friday, so we all HAD to be in school (we have to be in school the day before,of, and after the sporting event, so basically we need to be in school everyday). This past Wedsnesday was the only time when all of us athletes could skip so our senior class decided to skip that day. That's why it was so late.

The school offered a $100 savings bond if you had perfect attendance in your senior year, and they even pre-empted first period for a senior meeting which consisted of the principal thanking us for our attendance and then offering us donuts and coffee.

I wish our school had that. Although I already missed a few days THIS year for college visits (which are "unexcused absences" until next year). Other than that I have had perfect attendance my freshman/junior year along with other grades.

The saddest thing is, some kids still think skip day is an actual vacation endorsed by the school, and being absent that day doesn't count toward their record or anything. Even worse are the teachers who mostly don't assign anything on that day because they know most of the class is going to skip.

Yeah, none of my teachers assigned anything. My drafting teacher gave us a test, but we all made it up today. Our principal actually called about 20 seniors down (including me) so she could find out what day the seniors were skipping. This was because they wanted to schedule middle school "stepup day" on the same day so that the seniors weren't there and so there would be more room for them. Now that's sad.:p

Actually, some elementary schools in my area have decided to do an 11-month school year. They also extended the school day by three-to-four hours. That means I have more than a month more of a vacation than them. 5 weeks if you add the extra hours.
