Was that ever covered in Batman Beyond? If so, I can't remember, and if not, does anybody know what Timm's plans were to reveal his end and how Barbara became commisioner?

I think this was just as much a mystery as the fate of Alfred.

I doubt if they covered his final story it would be "he retired and died." Come on. The creators of Batman Beyond would have shown more creativity than that! After Joker's demise, the bullet holes in Batgirl's costume, Harl falling off the building, the rumors of the dramatic leaving of Nightwing and his splintered relationship with Bruce cuz of the affair between Bruce and Barbara, we come up with, "He retired and died?" What was his reaction to Bruce and Barbara, for one? And I am sure he went out in the line of duty. His final story is one I sure would hope make its way into a DTV in the future.

bah if anyone in that town is entitled to a good ending, its the commish

he deserves a nice peaceful ending--

a nice retirement and the pleasure of giving his job to babs

I could have gone for that....if they incorporated it into the Batman Beyond series. I would have loved to see him in retirement, and some scenes with him and Barbara. But the lack of a conclusive ending established for him in the series suggests he was one of the ones the writers were going to tackle at a later date, and that would more than likely mean they had more in plan than he retired and died in his sleep.

So Alfred doesn't deserve a good ending?

I like the ring of "retiring and dying peacefully."

alfred probably just hopped onto his bat-bike hidden in the brush along some deserted road and cycled off into the sunset when bruce became too overbearing and crazy to live with

I like the way he was handled in the Dark Knight Returns. After Bats has faked his death, he destroys the mansion to erase any trace of Batman's life. As he watches the mansion burn, he suffers a heart attack. He thinks, "how appropriate," then dies. An excellent death for Batman's closes confidant.

Terry can stand Bruce, sure they have some arguments, but overall I didn't any single episode when Terry said: "Bruce, I can't stand being Batman anymore, you drive me up the wall with your attitude!" If Terry can stand Bruce, I'm sure Alfred can too. Alfred knew Bruce since he was a baby.
