A lot of my buddies are big into TF2, so I knew about this right away. With the new patch updated today and the chance to finally try it out for free, I'm definitely going to see how things go.
I've heard some mixed reactions on the new medic achievements, however. Any thoughts from TF2 gamers that have played since the update? The new weapons are supposed to be nice, but it looks like there's going to a lot of medics running around solely trying to complete the achievements rather than helping the team. With medic being one of the support classes, this is going to provide for some unbalanced gameplay.

I've played some today and yes there are lot of Medics trying to get achievement; but that just means it's a good time to be a Heavy and a even better time to be a Sniper
(Note: My favored class is Demoman and I go by the name of Targ)

Good for you, bad for me since Medic is my primary guy.

Come now, that just means your much closer to getting the 1 million points of healing achievement.

I started out with that one done, along with a couple others that deal with healing a certain amount with a single life. Already got my Blutsauger too.

So has this thing already started?
I spent the last eight hours downloading the game itself, but it says I have to pay to unlock it.

Yes I did. Now it's working.
Although my computer's really stalling up so I'm going to have to fiddle with some things. *Pats the old girl*
I'll probably end up just buying the game later.

I meant to download it before the big weekend, but now I'm going to have to wait until later tonight. I'm sure there's a noticeable increase in players and variety of skill sets.
For those who have already tried the free trial, has this swayed anyone's opinion on the game or influenced a purchase?

Well, the free trial at least influenced me to purchase the game. I found it at Fry's for $15, which was really nice.
Although I already knew a lot about the game, it wasn't the same until I actually got in and started playing. TF2's art direction, great team-based gameplay, new additions, and built-in voice chat make for a great experience. And playing/chatting with friends and other players works really well. I wouldn't really call myself an FPS gamer, but it has that WoW-like depth and feel. It's easy to jump in and get into, but hard to master and play well against the good players.

There's another free Weekend coming-up to go along with the Pyro update.

Those kooky Valve kids are at it again! And from the new Pyro stuff it looks like s/he'll become more of a legitimate class, especially with the rocket repelling air puff. That just might push the Pyro back to being my favorite as he was when the game was launched.
