View Full Version : Earthworm Jim returns- big time
New game, new cartoon, and...movie? (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18353)
Of course, the question needs to be asked: is Earthworm Jim really popular enough to warrant a movie?

Hopefully Dan Castellaneta is voicing Jim again.

There's no way the film is going to happen. I've noticed over half the game-based movies announced never materialize, which is good, I guess.
But a new TV show? We better get that....

I doubt that a movie will happen, but new Earthworm Jim TV series would be most welcome.
As for the new EWJ game, here's hoping that Earthworm Jim 4 will do better than Earthworm Jim 3D did.

Well we knew about the game (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=208943)but they're just going full out to hype up the franchise: I hope the game is actually good.

Well if Doug Tennapel, the guy who CREATED Earthworm Jim, is the guy behind this stuff then I have high hopes he won't screw this to hell. At least I hope he doesn't.
A movie, like everyone said, is a bad idea. But a new TV show? Well if it's anything like the old one (see the intro alone for a good idea what you're in for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlf4CDZeOkw&feature=related) then all the better. Which is most likely since again, it's being handled by Doug Tennapel himself. The old show is arguably the best video game-based cartoon out there and topping it is going to be pretty damn hard.
I just hope the game, the show, everything turns out awesome. And that the new Jim is on a system I actually own. To me, Jim was up there with Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man in terms of how popular he was (To me being the key words here) and the last of the 16-bit greats. I don't want Jim to go into the downward spiral Sonic is going down, (EWJ 3-D seemed to indicate that, though technically, I kinda liked that game) even though he's been retired for a good 10 or so years compared to Sonic who's still in the business.
Hopefully Dan Castellaneta is voicing Jim again.
Yes. Definately. Dan put the Jim in Earthworm Jim. (Just like he put the Homer in Homer Simpson) I can't really imagine anyone else being suited to the job of voicing Jim other than Dan. Actually the entire cartoon's voice cast was awesome. You got Kath Soucie, Jim Cummings, Charlie Adler, Jeff Bennet, good stuff there.

I checked over at his website and apparently he now has full creative control over the character so he wants to do things right this time.

I really hope it is as good as the relaunch of Sam and Max. Earthworm Jim is one of my fave characters. Hopefully this may also mean the old show will come to DVD.

And I was just talking to someone about this the other day, and watching some vids of it (the Eyes of Cleveland scared the hell out of me actually).
Hopefully, it doesn't turn out like EWJ64 -- pork boarding was so frustrating. Anyway, I hope it retains its bizzare sense of humor and cows.
Don't forget the cows!

Jim returns! I'm excited. Earthworm Jim is a hillariously good franchise. I really miss the old cartoon. But as for the new cartoon... I smell 4kidsTV.

With TenNapel on board, given full creative control, I'm sold.

The old show is arguably the best video game-based cartoon out there and topping it is going to be pretty damn hard.Hopefully, it won't be like the old show. Not that the old one was bad or anything, but it was a ways removed from the first two games in a lot of ways. However the new show turns out, I'd look forward to something new, rather than a retread.
Dan put the Jim in Earthworm Jim. (Just like he put the Homer in Homer Simpson) I can't really imagine anyone else being suited to the job of voicing Jim other than Dan.Nothing against Dan's work, either, but I'm curious if Doug's up to doing the voicework this time. He did Jim's voice for the games, but those were just little clips.

Oh, stop worring and just let them have it. It's not an anime. What could go wrong?

Well, this is the wrong board for this, so let's just say I hope they don't and leave it at that.

I don't see anything wrong with 4Kids getting the series (if it happens). As long as Doug Tennapel has control over the show, there's not much to worry about.

Hopefully, all this hype might convince Universal to finally release the original cartoon on DVD. :D
(That's who owns the rights to the KWB show, right? I've honestly forgotten if that's correct.)
