And I thought the original Adult Swim's pool scenes were annoying. This announcer sounds like Stephen Hawking on crack. Couldn't they just pay the voice of Tom the robot to read that stupid disclaimer?
Yu-Yu Hakusho
First of all, I'm glad they kept the original title, instead of translating it into "Poltergeist Report" or something. And we're apparently getting theme songs just like with "Bebop", how nice! I guess reviews of the theme were mixed, but I like it. It sort of dates the show, proving that this is old-fashioned anime.
I've only ever seen HORRIBLY subtitled fansubs of the show before, so I'm not sure how accurate the dubbing was. Some of it was a little annoying (Yusuke's "WhatEVER"), but for the most part it all seemed pretty accurate. I didn't care for Botan's and Kuwabara's voices, though. Botan should sound more little-girl-ish (think Sasami), and Kuwabara just sounded like a little kid putting on a tough wrestling voice. That's gonna get old fast, and I pity the VA's vocal chords. But at least it doesn't sound like the entire cast is being voiced by the same three actors (cough...DBZ...cough).
They edited out the panty scene, though! What the heck for? I thought this was PG! The stupid disclaimer specifically mentions sexual situations, so what's up?
(Oh, and this has nothing to do with Adult Swim, but I hope FUNi doesn't screw us when it comes to the DVDs by spreading out another 100+ episode series into three episode per disc)

Nothing new to say, I'm just curious why they wouldn't have started from the first episode like everything else.
Pilot Candidate
This was the only new show for me tonight, and I was disappointed. Besides the story just being cliched and uninteresting, the dubbing sounded like something from a FOX or WB show. But what the hey, it's free anime. Even when it's bad, it's still good. Well, watchable, anyway.
What's with that "Candidate for Goddess" title? Is that the show's real name, or was it the title of this episode?
Gundam 0083
This was the highlight of the block, even though I've seen it a dozen times. That theme song just kicks twenty different kinds of ***** (although originally the first episode didn't have one). I just wonder how many people watched this for the first time and realized it gave away the ending the "Mobile Suit Gundam". :)
Now I understand them changing the S-word, but why couldn't they have left in Kou's "*******"? Is that so much worse than regular "damn"? Come to think of it, I heard an awful lot of "heck"s too. Wasn't this also rated PG?

Another cool theme song, and they even left the subtitles in like CB. But seeing as how badly butchered this show is, I still can't grasp why they moved it to AS. Are they just trying to make space in Toonami?

Same old same old. I really don't see why they ever cut out Tenchi punching that friend of his with the ungodly big nose. Lord knows I'd have done it.
Overall
I'm either going to have to buy a lot of blank tape or just stay home every Saturday night! This must be what it's like in Japan on the weekends. Well, actually, "Gundam 0083" is only 13 episodes, and I think "Pilot Candidate" is too. I've already seen almost everything else, so in a few weeks all I'll be tuning in for is "Yu Yu Hakusho". This is a looong series. Anyone know how many episodes FUNi has bought? I assume they're buying the rights in blocks, like they used to with DBZ. It's gonna be pretty funny watching this series go on for the next few years while every other show reruns ad infinitum. :)
BTW, I wonder why the ending themes for "Gundam", "Candidate", and "Hakusho" were trimmed down? Were they originally cut for Toonami or something?
