What would you say is Natalie Portman's best film performance?
I know there are many who automatically think of her Padme Amidala role in Star Wars, but honestly, the first role that always comes to mind is in Zach Braff's "Garden State". She is magnificent in that movie.

Amidala was unarguably her worst performance. Not her fault, Lucas can't direct actors.
I'd have to say "Leon". She was very young when she did that and turned in a terrific performance.

I'll go with The Professional, which is so far the only movie I've liked her in.

Does her British accent in V for Vendetta come and go, or is it just me :p?

I've got a lot of respect for Natalie Portman. She's one of the few young actresses who has got actual opinions on adult issues and is capable of intelligent thought. I don't always agree with her, and I think sometimes she may be misinformed, but then, who isn't?
However, I must confess I've always been lukewarm at best towards her acting.

The funny thing is, when I was first getting into Natalie Portman a few years ago (that did NOT come out right), I originally assumed she was British.
Mainly because of her role as Queen Amidala, she kinda used a psuedo-British accent, and also spoke with on in V for Vendetta.
There were also a few interview tie-ins for Star Wars and V where it sounded like she was speaking british, so naturally I assumed she was a Brit.
But I'd get confused at award shows, and such where she spoke without an accent, and eventually I realized she isn't British at all. So, hand me a dunce cap somebody.

Leon: The Professional. Although I'd have to agree with Leaping Larry Jojo --- I've never really been blown away by her acting.

Leon. By a country mile. A tremendous performance by such a young girl, but her acting really hasn't progressed much since then. Not that this in any way makes her a bad actress, she's pretty decent, but slightly overrated on the basis of that early performance.
I would say Garden State is probably her best performance as an adult, though I guess it's fair to say that anyone would come off looking pretty good next to the utterly useless Zach Braff.

Natalie Portman in Closer. Best performance of her career.

Your avatar lies then.My avatar resents that, but considering that I lost a small fortune on its promise that Tiger Woods was a "sure bet" for the Masters title, I'm inclined to think you might be right.

i'm guessing it wasn't her "acting" that you thought was a good performance."

I really haven't seen many of her performances, nor do I think she's especially good as an actress, but V for Vendetta was interesting, so that's the way I voted.

I never rerally wanted to see the movie until now.Just so you know (in case you didn't already), there's a shorter release (the American theatrical release, I think?) that's just packaged as The Professional, and then the full version, which is the one packaged as Leon: The Professional.

Yeah, got to give it too Leon The Professional. Second being that girl from Hotel Chevalier, and V for a distant third. I've never been too impressed with her acting, those three are really the only movies that stand out for me.
