A very intresting and funny show. Well while you FUNimation-haters already think the ony way they can be more insultive to the series is pist on the film, I think they did a pretty good job, though it was funny hearing the orange hair guy who wants to fight Hakusho sounding like the Ox King, and and that blond hair girl sounding like chibi Goku.(well at least they kept the original music, at least I think they did.) Besides that I think they had some pretty good choices for voices(I thought it was cool Hakusho sounding like Badd-ass teenage gohan) and they did all around good job dubbing it.(Then again, this is the first time I seen the series, so I can't say I seen worst or better dubbing :p )

I thought the show was pretty good, but this is by no means adult. The show is aimed at an early-mid teen audience, and that theme song/opening REALLY doesn't help. It's a good anime series, just not adult. I wouldn't have any problems with it on say, Midnight run, but to put it under tha AS title? Along with edited to tartarus Tenchi and Outlaw? Oh well, better than nothin' I suppose.

i dont think you can tell if it is or isnt adult just from episode 1

I already posted my opinions on the thread Matt Wilson started, but I did want to mention one small thing about the dub.

There were a couple of times where the mouth stayed open while the voice was speaking. But I understand that it's only originally English so I forgive them.

One last thing, this kind of animation does something that bothers me: When the eyes closed when they are very happy, they look like frowns. It's as if they have eyebrows, and no eyes. Is there a name for this kind of animation?

I'm going to take a stab using my intuitive ability to sense evil, and going to say no. I haven't seen anything outside of a more serious plot, death, and some PG words I can say here that I couldn't find on Zoids or Dragonball or most Animes aimed at 15-.

...That, and I can use the spell detect alignment. Evil Dr. Reef, I want to cast a spell! I'm going to cast 'Detect alignment!'

*roll* I got an 18! Now make a resist check on anime0013!

What? a 22? What kind of dice are you using? ARRRGH!

*As every extremist christian knows, very little is more evil than D&D, or worse, people that PLAY D&D.

I already said my piece on Matt Wilson's thread. I feel it was done well enough, better then I expected from FUNI that's for sure.

That said, YYH fits in just fine.

Yeah...that's kinda my point. The only thing remotely adult is CB and possibly HM. (I say possibly because of Jason. Eliminate of him, and I shall consider you adult, HM.) In some aspects at least. Space ghost is pretty much humor that more mature audiences would like, as are some of the other shows.

I was wondering what everybody though of the presentation. Me, I hated it. It's hard to describe, but there was something about it that was.....oddly claustrophobic, if you can imagine it. That Stephen Hawking voice is really grating too. Ah well, I'm really sick, so that couldn't have helped.

I love Yu Yu Hakusho. Reguardless of what some may say already ( i knew somone would automatically trash it), you have to give the show time to introduce and develop the characters. thats what its all about. if you doubt me, go check out the movie , by U. S. Manga Corp. its everything thats good in Yu Yu Hakusho, all wrapped up in one good movie.

I too dissagree with the name "Adult Swim", but I'll give the 3 new shows the benefit of the doubt for now. After all, you can't judge a show by its first episode.

I thought the dub for Yu Yu was simply amazing, considering this is FUNI who dubbed it. Its amazing that the same company that pulls out that DBZ crap can actually do a good dub. I wonder why they don't do it with DBZ.

I agree, on another board I went to, about a week ago, I told them that Yu Yu was gonna be dubbed by FUNimation and they already began to say that Funimation with ruin it and that Yu Yu is doomed. I tried to show them a differant way to look at, but they are sure that it would be the wordt dubbing ever done. I told them to watch the Funi-dubbed show before you crusified it.

Most of the anime here isn't adult. Heck, most anime in general isn't an adult (what a shock). If you want some "adult" swim, I would count these pretty new shows as qualifying--

Legend of Black Heaven
Master Keaton

And...I'm having a hard time thinking about anything else. Goes to show you how NOT adult most anime really is.

YYH is great. althogh some people might not like it when it turns to dbz-ish plot...or flame of recca-ish (better description).

and also, you guys take the name "adult swim" too seriously, if it was really intended for people 18+, then they'd have porn on there. but to be serious, if cn was really serious about adult swim, all the shows would be tv-ma and all the anime we see will be uncut. now that is adult.

Then I'm glad that I had the right idea about this show. I definitely look forward to next week.

Yu Yu is a great show, this is the third time i watch it,(i saw the japanese one and the cantonese one), and overall i think funi did an okay job on it, the only adult scene i can think of is the bedscene, which i think will get edit by funi, cause they didnt even show yusuke graps keiko's skirt. And i have to say this show is completely different than DBZ, yes they got figthings in this, but this show got plot while DBZ dont have much plot and with those meaningless fights.

IMPORTANT
and for those of you who wondering if Yu Yu is a good show, i suggest you should keep watching it until it gets to episode 6, when kurama and hiei show up, cause thats when the story really gets interesting, and the Animation gets a lot better too.

The only think adult on adult swim action is cowboy bebop. The SCIFI Channel (back in the days) showed alot more adult anime then Adult swim does right now and its sad cause the SCIFI channel don't specialize in anime you know what I am saying?

Ah, yes. They had Armitage and whatnot. Unfortunatly, they also had 80's anime. For some reason, I just can't stand early anime. or whatever you would call it. I'm not even sure if it's even from the 80's.

Yeah, but people have to remember that this is a rather old series. We also have about 112 episodes to go through (Well, 111 episodes now).

If you guys don't like the name Adult Swim, couldn't you just watch something else? Fans want to watch, and haters don't have to. There are other things to do then bicker. Go watch SNL. If you did watch SNL good for you.

112 Episodes!!! That's a lot. At one episode a week that would take over two years to air the whole series, how many episodes are in the other series? Are they planning on running the series for two years or will they expand the time slot to air the show faster? I'm not complaining, its just weird, with the exception of DBZ, no other show has ran that long.

You should narrow that statement down.. plenty of shows have aired that long. just not many anime. ;)

Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Doraemon, Chibi Maruko Chan, Sazae San, Galaxy Express 999, Crayon Shin Chan (I think),

and many more...

Galaxy Express 999-I love it! If you ask me, instead of having Rising Sun, they should change change that to Adult Swim Anime Theater and show movies like GE999, or mabey just show more shows.

That is a very good idea you have there, and I hope it works out with CN very soon, just like the toonami movies.
