Mine is a hard one to tell. Either Duck Amuck or What's Opera Doc? I miss Chuck :( :( :( :(

"Often an Orphan" is easily my favorite. This one has so many clearly and precisely timed gags (both physical and verbal) and such great story-telling animation that it's very hard to top. This one has always been on my "Top 10".

A Hound For Trouble is one of my favorites. Charlie's singing the "Assamatta" song, the whole bit with Charlie as a waiter (especially when he sticks out his tongue), stomping grapes, and holding up the Tower...overall, a very funny cartoon, and IMO very underrated.

Although I love most all of his early to mid period stuff-especially his three "great" musical cartoons "Long-Haired Hare", "Rabbit of Seville", and "What's Opera Doc". My personal favorite cartoon of his is Fresh Airedale.

Chuck once remarked how he liked to throw a bit of social satire in almost everything he did, and although this is one of Termite terrace darkest cartoons its one of the very best. The scene where the cat is pounding on the statue of justice is fantastic.

I know not a cheery subject today-but it's one of his best toons often forgotten in light of the similar and still way overplayed "one Froggy Evening"

The Dover Boys of Pimiento University, or The Rivals of Roquefort Hall. That's the full title. Best cartoon ever made, in my opinion.

I love that one too, Fresh Airedale has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Chow Hound is also great, almost a sequel to it.

I always liked Fair and Worm-er a lot, the ultimate chase cartoon. It had a worm being chased by a crow being chased by a cat being cased by a dog being chased by a dog catcher AND a woman being chased by a mouse. One of the more zany cartoons Jones did.

He made a lot a great ones, though.

My top favorites are easily "Rabbit of Seville", ALL of his Road Runner cartoons, "Duck Amuck", "The Dover Boys", "Duck Dodgers", "The Bee-Devilled Bruin", "Feed the Kitty", "Mouse Wreckers", "Two's a Crowd", "Bedtime for Sniffles", but there's way to many to list. Let's just say if it wasn't for Chuck Jones, I wouldn't be interested in cartoons.

Any road Runner film, particularly "Gee Whizzz", "Scrambled aches", and "Lickety Splat". I also love his series of 'house pet' cartoons, including Marc Anthony, Pussyfoot, Claude Cat, Hubie and Bertie, etc. My favorite Jones film of all though, possibly my favorite Warner film, is a lesser-known one called "Feline Frameup", in which Claude Cat and Marc Anthony fight over the soft pillow to sleep on, their feud leading to the master throwing the bulldog out and the bulldog finding ways to get revenge on Claude. He makes Claude sign a confession, which gets the cat thrown into the street, where he's hit by a bus and remarks "Just one of those DAYS, I guess!"

My favorite Chuck Jones cartoon happens to be my favorite animated cartoon ever, Duck Amuck. It's the ultimate post modern(in the sense of 4th wall breaking and the like, not the whole philosophical thing) cartoon, which I'd seen long before any of the brilliant Tex Avery material. That sort of thing has always mesmerised me.

I also jotted down a group of my favorites of Chuck's, though just about all his stuff (mainly from 1942 on) is among my favorites.
In no particular order:

Fresh Airedale
& Chow Hound both dark morality plays, the latter with a perfect O Henry/Twilight Zone/e.c. comics style ending.

Fair & Worm-er

The Hunting Trilogy

Zoom at the Top My favorite Road Runner, esp. for the ice gag and "Ouch." :)

Martian Through Georgia for the perfect stylised cartoon drawing

Feed the Kitty The peak of Jonesian emotion/expressiveness. Marc Anthony carrying the cookie on his back suggests the perfect obit image for the director.

High Note Maybe a tie with Martian through Geo. for perfect simplicity.

Mouse Wreckers Loved the final grand prank(s) on Claude as a kid. Still Do. Also, all Hubie & Bertie cartoons count as a favorite.

Scardey Cat(uncut, naturally!)

The Ducksters

Bugs Bunny & the Three Bears

Favorite scenes in CJ cartoons

The house-building scene in Rabbit Hood

"A rabbit? Up HERE?"

"...or my name isn't Laramore. And it isn't!"

"Nyeh!" as Daffy and Elmer "wait til you get home" (Rabbit Seasoning)

If I had to pick one I'd say "Fresh Airedale", but I also like "One Froggy Evening", "Hound For Trouble", "Duck Amuck", "What's Opera Doc", "Chow Hound", "The Dover Boys", and any Road Runner of Three Bears cartoon.

I liked his adaptations of "Mowgli's Brothers" and "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi".

As for Warner Bros., I'll have to say "The Dover Boys"("Unhand her, Dan Backslide!Unhand her,Dan Backslide!Unhand her, Dan Backslide!Hey, we're in a real rut!"), "Chow Hound"("What? No gravy?"), Duck Dodgers in the 24th1/2 Century", "Ali Baba Bunny" and others too numerous to name.

A gag that really cracked me up was in "The Eager Beaver." The narrator mentions that the beavers dam the river. Then a few beavers run to the water's edge, wave their fists in the air, and start mouthing curse words at the river. The narrator then tells them he didn't mean THAT kind of dam.

I will chime in with mine.... some of these are from left field, but check em out next time they're on TV.

I liked his 40's Porkys, like "Porky's Ant" and "Porky's Cafe". "A Pest In The House". "Haredevil Hare". "Rabbit Seasoning". "Much Ado About Nutting". "Rocket Squad". "Hare-Way To The Stars". "To Itch His Own". "High Note". "The Mouse On 57th Street". His 60's Road Runners, which were the only ones to maintain their integrity while most of the rest of the studio's output deteriorated.

And of course, the obvious: "One Froggy Evening", "Duck Amuck", "What's Opera, Doc?" and "The Dot And The Line".

It would be virtually impossible to pick just one!!!!

My list:

Duck Amuck
What's Opera Doc
Rabbit Fire--Elmer Season
Rabbit Of Seville
Feed the Kitty
One Froggy Evening
For Scent-imental Reasons
Dog Gone South
Lickety Splat
Year of the Mouse (I know it's Tom and Jerry and basically a remake of Mouse Wreckers, but it's hysterical!!!)

I watched my tape from 1985's Golden Jubilee Collection: A Salute to Chuck Jones last night. It was a perfect complement to Toonheads and the Chuck Jones Show last night!

My favorite Chuck Jones cartoons are:
Duck Amuck
Bugs Bunny's Bustin' Out All Over (this one was a half hour TV special Chuck did for CBS in 1980, but you all probably knew that)
Robin Hood Makes Good
The Super Rabbit
Snowbody Loves Me (Tom and Jerry)
Haunted Mouse (also T&J)
Bugs Bunny in King Arthur's Court (a.k.a A Connecticut Rabbit in King Arthur's Court-also a CBS special)
Robin Hood Daffy
and many more that I can't remeber the titles of.

Crazy Tom

This will be a surprise to some, but my favorite is T&J's "The Cat Above And The Mouse Below." It's as zany as any musical cartoon can get, especially with the "sped-up" music at the end that Jerry sings for Tom.

Chuck Jones had a run from 1942 to 1955 or so where he did almost no wrong. As far as my favorites go, besides the obvious ones, I love the last three Inki cartoons, Fin N Catty, The Eager Beaver, Fair and Wormer, Punch Trunk, Jumpin Jupiter, and for some reason, Tom Thumb in Trouble. Chuck Jones will be remembered as the definitive Warner Bros cartoon director.
