CNN just did a story on Chuck Jones and announced that Cartoon Network would run a tribute from 8 to 9:30 EST. What it will consist of I do not know.
Added 2/24/02
It is my hope that CN will run Jones's first short as a director on Acme Hour- The Night Watchman. It's not a great one, but it was his first. Time will tell.
Stop in the name of humanity!

Hopefully, it will be 7-8 well-thought out choices of cartoons with acutal biographical information in-between, and not just nine cartoons, no background info and only the regular bridging sequences from The Chuck Jones Show.

I hope CN does this right, but IMO, this should've been a two-day marathon, instead of less than two hours.

Well at least we got away with an hour of the special.
I'll be taping it (which reminds me, I need a new ten pack of blank video tapes).:)

I have a feeling it will just be three episodes of The Chuck Jones Show.

Well, I hope they run good cartoons and not time compressed or edited films (I noticed the same old crappy "Dripalong Daffy" and "Scent of the Matterhorn" this morning). I happen to need a new copy of "Feed the Kitty", which for some reason does not air as often as it used to. I hope they air that one. Hey, multiple episodes of the Chuck Jones show is fine if they treat it with respect. I liked the ad they ran in the Looney Tunes show bumpers this morning, with the 'Dot and the Line' music as a little dot drew a caricature of Jones.

I think so too, which will be incredibly disappointing considering that CN has access to at least 95% of all the cartoons he ever made, and considering how well known he is and how much he meant to animation all over. In 1980, when TBS did that Avery tribute Gossamer mentioned, all they had access to was his MGM cartoons, I believe. Yet they still showed more of a tribute than CN is showing Jones.
At least today's LT Show was turned over to Jones. But, really, CN should be doing more. A lot more.

As long as they show well-chosen cartoons, I won't have a problem with it. It would be cool if they showed some interviews with him, but if they don't, they don't.
However, I think that if they show one of his Tom & Jerrys, I will go completely insane.

Well, one of HIS Tom and Jerrys would be great...but they have aired stuff on the show in the past that was solely directed by Abe Levitow. THAT is disrespectful.

Right now the CN website has the following scheduled for this tribute timeslot:
Toonheads: The Early Works of Chuck Jones
The Chuck Jones Show
The Chuck Jones Show
So they may just be repeating a Toonheads about him and then giving us 2 existing episodes of the CJ Show...
We;ll see soon enough I suppose.

No documentary or existing interview? That is awful. Anyway, they brought an old Toonheads episode back, but that's about it.
One of the Chuck Jones Shows might even be reruns from today's LT Show because this whole thing doesn't sound good. :(

They could have used the Chuck Jones interview from CN's 50 Greatest Cartoons of All Time. The only problem it has been so long that they most likely *lost* it...
