View Full Version : Gantz
I've been interested in this for a while and with Dark Horse releasing the manga soon, I'm wonder how good is it to be worth checking out?
From what I know it's pretty hardcore if not graphic to the existence of the word, but (both the anime and manga) is it really all that great?
the manga rocks, ive been keeping up with it up to the most recent chapter (270). Very Gory, great character development, arts great, lots of death, beleve me when i say NOBODY is spared from death, and it just keeps getting more and more interesting.
The Anime simply doesnt cover enough and ends too soon (and that alternate ending was crappy).

IMO, not really. I watched 3 episodes of the anime before I got bored and I couldn't even start the manga. I feel it's kinda overrated. :/

I agree with you 100%. While the anime did introduce me to the world og Gantz, the manga is of superior quality. I love the anime, up until the final "game". I have hope that we may one day get new episodes, even if it is unlikely. There is enough source material now, though.
Things really get interesting after the end of the third event in the manga. For those of you who are new to Gantz, the series does what Robert Kirkman just did with The Walking Dead # 48 and takes the show off into a new direction, somewhat, before it finds a new status quo. Even that doesn't remain for long. The manga-ka really seems to enjoy torturing both the characters and the readers. Each chapter of the manga is surprising, and I love it. I'm glad that Dark Horse is releasing the manga, but I wish that we would get it more often than what they currently have planned for a release schedule. One volume every three-four months doesn't cut it.:D I'm up to date with the manga in Japan, but I would like to see quicker release for the US. The suspense is killer in many chapters of this fantastic series. I recommend it to anyone with a strong stomach and a desire for something different.
you should know though, in the begining the protagonist is unbearable, hes the most unlikable fictional character youl ever see, thank god for character development.

the anime sux ass, though if it bored you the manga would have surely bored you too, as the Anime follows the manga except that it adds alot of filler.
I recommend it to anyone with a strong stomach and a desire for something different.
and too anyone that doesnt mind fanservice, sex and realy perverse acts.
Well it sounds like I'm probably gonna love it. :D
I would like to get the anime, though ADV has two thin-pack sets and then a Perfect Collection edition.
I'm guessing the perfect edition is a better product?

The Perfect Score Collection is great if you want something unique to display on your shelf. I heard early reports that it was difficult to close the packaging once opened, but I am still unsure of whether or not this is true. I own the two thinpak collections that ADV released, but I still plan on getting the Perfect Score Collection. Both the thinpak collections and the Perfect Score Collection include the extras that the single disc releases had. The thinpak sets will give you a total of ten discs, but they won't take up as much space on your shelf as the Perfect Score Collection, which has five discs but comes in the Gantz ball replica. It's really a matter of preference and price. I know that for a while DeepDiscount.com was selling the Perfect Score Collection for $49.99. If that price remains the same next Friday, that's when I'll be making my purchase. My thinpak collections make great lenders so most of the time, I don't even have them at home. I want to be able to have some way to watch Gantz when I want to watch it, and I think the Perfect Score Collection is a nice and affordable solution. If you can still get it for $49.99, I highly recommend purchasing it through DeepDiscount.com. A lot of brick and mortar retailers still have the Perfect Score Collection in stock, but if the two Best Buys I have been employed at are any indication, they are not in the best shape, most having scratches on the ball.
If you need more information than you could possibly want, let me know. :D
Well actually I was leaning towards the Perfect Score edition, but the thin-pack contains the extras?
Really?
ADV is known for barebone releases of their series in Thin-Pack form..

I apologize. I didn't mention that the Perfect Score Collection also retains all of the extra included on the single discs and in the thinpak collections. ADV really seems to enjoy this series as much as the fans and has gone all out when releasing it. I found the thinpak collections to be more than enough for any fan, and I was more than a little surprised when the Perfect Score Collection was announced for release. The bottom line is this: The Perfect Score Collection does have the extras, and it's the best value right now.
