PP2 looks okay, though I probably won't see it.

PP2, didn't they make a live version of Peter Pan, called Hook or something? Peter pan grows up because he married that girl....or is the animated version different?

Hook was about Peter Pan after he left Never Never Land, grew up, and had a family. Captain Hook kidnappes his kids, and he has to learn all of his old tricks back to resuce them. For being as close to a spin-off as a movie can get, it wasn't all that bad.
And on the subject of anime sequels, the reason why they're praised is that the same people who did the original usually work on the sequel as well. Vampire Hunter D, Evangelion, and Armitage were all great to begin with, so in theory, the movies/sequels should be good too. And Bloodlust is great.

I've really been looking down of all the Disney sequels, but, being a born and raised Disney kid, I'll probably see some of them. I saw Balto II, and it was about as bad as I expected, which was quite bad. But, what can I say, I'm a hypocrite, because I actually am interested in seeing PP2 and Cinderella 2. But mostly because I'm anxious to see whether they are actually any good, or if they just suck.

I agree with Dr. Evil Reef. If you think about it sequels, whether animated or film, when done by different people than those that made the original are never really that good. The original story and feel that was conveyed by the original artists is lost. The people that originally made peter pan, cinderella, snow white, etc. are retired or deceased (not to mention they worked during a different era for disney). Toy Story 2 was a decent sequel, which simply proves the point: same people maintain the integrity while new people do not. Anime sequels are done by the same people, so most of the time the integrity of the original is kept and they don't do sequels needlessly(at least not like disney does). We don't need a cinderella, lion king, aladdin, peter pan, etc sequel. But we get them just the same.

Nope, the animated version is different. It deals with Wendy's kid (of course) and the wacky adventures that ensue. Hoo-ha.

The kids in hook were Wendy's great grandchildren(Peter Pan married Wendy's granddaughter). So its not really much of a difference.

But in Hook, Peter Pan's a middle-aged adult who forgot who he is. That part has a big difference to it.

Also, they weren't the main character. Robin William's character was. In this movie, the smarmy little brat is.

I saw "Return to Neverland" and it's not horrible. I loved all the Disney flicks as a kid, and so far it's the only sequel that hasn't been a major disapoinment.
To me, the kiss of death in terms of the Disney sequels is the DTV label. I mean- c'mon- Return of Jafar, Lion King II, Little Mermaid 2, and now Cinderella 2? What has the world come to!

Even though they look really corny, if the chance arises for me to see Cinderella 2 and PP2, then yes, I will see them. I want to see if they are good, or just another trashy, get-richer-quick scheme sequal (believe you me, I wouldn't put it past them ;)).
In Hook, Peter Pan has grown up and married Wendy's granddaughter, Moira. He is now a lawyer(?) who is too busy to come to his sons baseball games and such, because he is too wrapped up in his work and has forgotten how to have fun and who he once was. Once Hook comes and kidnaps his kids, he needs to believe again quick, or risk losing them forever. I should write video/dvd box descriptions :p
Funny how I was able to predict the plot for PP2 before I even knew what it was. Her daughter would doubt her mothers stories and would eventually have to believe after being taken to Neverland. Am I good, or is Disney just too predictable?

Last night in my screenwriting class a guest speaker mentioned that storytelling is different in the "East." In the "West" stories tend to go like a chronological series of events ("this happens, then this happens..."), but in the "East" stories tend to go in cycles--with the ending bringing the characters full circle.
Now, perhaps anime films are better suited for sequels because of this. Since each story is a complete cycle they are potentially able to start from the beginning each time, whereas "our" movies have to disrupt the happy ending our characters earned in the first film to go through a second.

People dragged "Hook" through the mud during its initital release, but, given "Return to Neverland", I bet people will be a little kinder to Spielberg's enchanting and well-performed, though fatally overlong fantasy.

Absolutely Karkull - as far as I can tell Disney is more interested in continuing the stories that have already ended with a "Happily Ever After" and less concerned about continuing the stories that allow themselves to be continued. I didn't mind Lion King 2 or Return of Jafar but at the same time I don't think that stories like Cinderella 2 or Snow White 2 need to be told, or even considered. I just don't think it's right for them to diminish their properties in this way. Pretty soon we'll be getting stories like Snow White 14 - The Adventures of Snow White and Nail Polish - the first animated feature dedicated to the purpose of painting a persons nails and the horrific events that occur when this all goes wrong!
I think Disney has over done it on the sequel aspect and have a diminished respect for their properties. With that said Peter Pan 2 might be all right and I think it actually might work with a sequel, Cinderella 2 - I don't think so. I'm also looking forward to Lilo and Stitch and Treasure Planet though. Has anyone else gotten a laugh out of the Lilo and Stitch/Aladdin promo or the Beauty and the Beast/Lilo and Stitch promo?

I totally agree. One question though- There was a Snow White 2? Is that a joke? That's horrible- next thing you know there will be Sleeping Beauty 2. When was this released, and what was the plot?

It hasn't been released but it is in the planning stages. (Altho due to the outcry by the public Disney is currently re-considering it). Here's the general plot:
Snow White 2 movie plot: The evil Queen's sister Noriss learns from her magical crystal ball that the only way to make Snow White and her family leave the castle would be to kidnap her friends the dwarfs. She goes to the mine asking the little men to help her find her way home, then pulls out 7 bags to kidnap each one of them. Only Dopey can escape from her claws by hiding behind rocks. Snow White, the Prince, and their 13-year old daughter Rose come to the rescue of the dwarfs with the help of Dopey...
Hopefully Disney will realize that nobody wants this and stop it from coming....then again it is Disney and holding out hope may not be worth it.
On another note of sequel madness - they've already started production on a Lilo and Stitch sequel, a movie that the original doesn't even come out in theaters until this June! When will the madness stop?
