Over the past year I've noticed the huge influx of web RPGs as their popularity has apparently taken off. Games such as Adventure Quest, Flyzz (sp?), and others are saturating the net.

The question I've had is, how are these games? I'd imagine if they were free to play they wouldn't be particularly that impressive, but considering how often I see them advertised everywhere I'd also think they must be pretty popular. Anyone play any of these games? How are they?

Grind-fests. All of them. (particularly the Korean imports)

I used to enjoy playing Yogurting, though. The Japanese server got sick of me and kicked me off, and I lost interest with the Thai version.

I used to play Silk Road Online (http://www.silkroadonline.net) but the grind fests as well as risks of losing exp and whole levels (especially if you have a job where you risk getting attacked by other job members) and the ENORMOUS file downloads caused me to back off. The character creation mode is a total joke! Give me City of Heroes/City of Villains character creation system any day of the week.

However, there are some free to play gems out there that should tickle your fancy. Check these out:

Softnyx Gunbound (http://www.softnyx.net/) --> Gunbound is an awesome online 2D war game that plays similar to WORMS. It simply involves blowing away everyone on the opposing team to win gold and prizes. If you're a WORMS fan, definitely check this out. :)
PoxNora (http://www.poxnora.com/index.do) --> online strategy/card game. Worth a try if you like card strategy games.
Dark Eden (http://www.joymax.com/darkeden/) --> Diablo II clone that you can play if you're a fan of Diablo II.
Gunz the Duel (http://www.gunzonline.com/) --> like third person deathmatches? Give this one a shot.
