View Full Version : Will there ever be anymore new episodes of Batman Beyond?

I think that Batman Beyond is the greatest action cartoon that the Batman scene has ever seen. If they end the series at "Unmasked" they are throwing away an excellent cartoon. I have watched Batman ever since I was little, and now that I am 16, I find that Batman Beyond is a very good show. They should continue the series on cartoon network during Toonami at the same time it is on now.

there was talk that Batman Beyond could possibly be renewed on CN...but now, there's a 0.1% chance of that happening...
I agree, it was a good show, and I would love to see more. But, I don't think we'll ever see anymore, unless we get a new DTV/DVD movie, we probably won't be seeing much more of Terry..

I really like BB too. I heard WB might make a couple of movies. I hope they do, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

That's too bad. Hopefully they will make some more movies or something. And there's always that .1% chance!

I wish it would be revived as well, Unmasked was a really bad series finale episode.

Tell me about it. It had no grand finale, no strings tied together, and just left us all hanging asking, "That's it?" Man, when I heard that the episode was gonna be called "Unmasked," I thought that it was gonna have something like one of the supervillains figure out who Terry is and blackmail him to get him to do the dirty work, but something dramatic happens and his identity is revealed to the whole world. Then, he goes and fights the supervillain, accidentally kills him, and makes everybody think that he's a criminal. Then it would probably end with either him and Dana making up after some big fight, or Bruce and him standing in the Bat Cave saying that Batman will still live on forever, or something similar to that.

I believe the reason for this was that (a) the creators of Batman Beyond had planned on a fourth season and (b) Unmasked was never even supposed to be a season finale, The Call part 2 was. Unmasked was just shown out of order as it originally had been yanked from the WB's schedule. At least I think that was the story.

Yup, that's the story. KWB ran things out of order a lot. Silly network...

WB didn't give any justified reason as to WHY BB got canned, what happened to season 4? :(

Season 4 was set to go, roughly planned out. The crew behind the show thought that they'd get the green light from WB to produce a second order of episodes, the initial order being completed. But...they didn't. Ratings were a bit down and the controversy around ROTJ didn't help either. WB didn't cancel the show, they just didn't order additional episodes.
And UNMASKED was never planned for the series finale, but THE CALL Part 2 was supposed to be the season 3 finale that would launch a fourth season divided between the JLU and Bruce Wayne. When it was diascovered that WB did not want any additional episodes, thos eplans fell apart.

i *THOUGHT* i had read somewhere that Superman was going to play a big part in season 4 but i guess it never happened-- which is a TOTAL shame because supes rocked in BB
given the sucess of JL and since sooo much work was done on season 4 do you think theres any chance of CN putting it together??

A JLU show won't be happenig, at least not for the foreseeable future. The demand just isn't there. We only represent less than .1% of the fan base for these shows, so just becuase 20 of us want it, doesn't mean it will happen. The network and crew will be focused on Justice League for the foreseeable future. Terry did kick arse. I wish DC didn't unfairly cancel his book...*sniff*...

another reason I hate WB, they credit the show's rating loss to the ROTJ controversy, WHICH THEY STARTED, GRRRRRRR I HATE THEM! RENEW MY SHOW!!!!!!!!!..........Maybe another petition......hmmmmm

I wouldn't bother with a petition. The show has been out of production for almost 2 years and the team has split. Personally, I think a petition would be pointless give as how past ones have failed and (in all honesty) interest in Batman Beyond isn't what it was back in 1998 when it premiered.

I really wish they hadn't canceled it. I wish they hadnt canceled B:TAS or TNBA ;) (Although the TNBA Batman design is better)

i just think the worst part about it is that justice league doesn't really live up to expectations. *sigh* what can we say....

Just a note, because I hate seeing this being said, TNBA or BB weren't cancelled. Only STAS was truely cancelled. FOX did not ask for any new episodes once the 85 episodes for BTAS were completed. WB did not ask for any new episodes once the 24 episodes for TNBA were completed. WB did not ask for any new episodes once the 52 episodes for BB were completed. But, WB did cut STAS's episode order down from 65 to 54 and promptly cancelled it. That was the only show truely cancelled. No new episodes won't happen becuase WB doesn't want them.

to know that STAS was truely canceled makes me furious
it deserved so much better
It's sad that Batman Beyond was ended, but some fanfic writers are planning on writing a fourth season for Batman Beyond.
"Unmasked" wasn't a good series finale ("The Call" would have been much better, I agree), but it was a good episode in and of itself. I love the ending (I guessed it about five seconds before they revealed it).
I'm probably going to sound stupid, but what was the ROTJ controversy? Was that all the cut/uncut version stuff?

Cartoon Network shows "Unmasked" in its correct order. In fact, that's why I missed it the first time around -- I thought it would be the next week! I saw the last few minutes of it and I was just like... NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
But now I've seen it.
Not a series finale, but I honestly thought it was an exceptionally good episode. I didn't EXPECT a finale, but I did naturally expect something quite good since it was "the long-lost episode." And it really didn't dissappoint.

I don't think so. After the ROTJ trouble, WB dropped the show. BB was too mature for the kids that WB is trying to attract. For a show that was suppose to be for young children, BB has a lot of elements that are dark like BTAS.

I agree that BB is somewhat mature for alot of the audience it was attracting, but now it is on a much more mature network, with an older age range of watchers. New episodes would be "Unbearably cool", but they are, as we all know, never gonna happen. :(

It's not unheard of for a series to start after it has been over for a long period of time.
For example; Scooby-Doo is getting a new series, after what, 30 years?

When Timm and Co. turned in the finished version of "Return of the Joker," someone had a cow about the violence, and ordered them to recut and reanimate portions to tone it down. The "cut" version is the one that was released and sold in stores.
But the studio had already distributed "screeners" of the original, uncut version and those quickly circulated around the web. (Most people here, I think, have one or have seen the uncut version.) Some people actually prefer the cut version, but I think the majority (including me) prefer the original version.
The original version, BTW, is getting a special release at the end of April.

Why do producers/creaters of Batman sell the show to the network like WB? Are they under some kind of contract? Can they sell their show to company like Tri Star, or something?

Warner Bros. owns DC Comics. It's a company within a company -- Warner Bros. lists DC Comics as one of its many assets.
Thus, Warner Bros. owns DC Comics, and all the characters within it. :)
As for the last episode of Batman Beyond... I always understood it to be "The Call." "Unmasked" was aired out of order due to Kids WB!'s shennanigans, and "Countdown" was the last episode made by production order... not the order the episodes were meant to air in -- in other words, the storyline order. When you look at Batman Beyond's episodes in storyline order, "The Call" is a fitting and awesome ending. (Though it would have been awesome to get a Season 4 with regular appearances by the JLU!)
As for the current state of affairs, I'm glad that Justice League is now getting the bulk of the time and resources. I would like Justice League to run longer than the other three Dini/Timm DC Universe TV shows did (at least 3 Seasons, and 5 or more Seasons if we're lucky!) and eventually try to tie up all the loose ends from Batman:TAS, Batman/Superman, and Batman Beyond. :D
As far as which TV shows got officially cancelled, and which ones were simply not ordered more episodes of... in my opinion, any time a TV show can't quit naturally, with an "ending" as well as a "beginning," it's been cancelled. Not ordering episodes cancels a TV show all the same.

So what's stopping Cartoon Network from ordering new episodes?

The reason why Batman Beyond went off was because it was struggling. With its ups and downs the creators have moved to a better show, JL (Justice League). Batman Beyond had its good points and its bad but it can never be called "the best" in my opinion.

Money. Cartoon Network has enough episodes in the can to run them and turn a small profit. And since BB's ratings are good but not great, it doesn't make economic sense to make more episodes.
Gawd, I hate saying that, but it's the truth. Sigh.

Perhaps, but you have to remember that Beyond is currently airing at 6:30 with little ad support. If they did decide to create new episodes they should allow Timm and Co. to do more episodes like ROTJ and put the show on either after JL (another 'adult' show) or during the Adult Swim Action Block. I'm sure that they would get far better ratings by putting it after JL or putting it on a block that gets a lot of adult watchers. This could also have a dual effect of getting more people to watch Batman Beyond during it's 6:30 time - increasing profits for that show and also creating new profits from season 4. That, my friend, would make economic sense ;)
