It may be April Fool's Day, but it's no joke that the face of ECW was changed at WrestleMania XXIV (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=207933). First, Kane won the battle royal on WWE.com and then defeated Chavo Guerrero in in near record time to win the ECW Championship! In other ECW action, CM Punk won Money in the Bank! He can redeem that contract at any time, including tonight!

April 1, 2008

There’s a new champion in the Land of the Extreme and his name is Kane. To earn the opportunity to challenge ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero, the Big Red Machine defeated 23 other competitors in the 24-Man Battle Royal, including giants such as Mark Henry, The Great Khali and Snitsky. Later in the evening, Kane emerged from under the ring, catching the “Mexican Warrior” by surprise and slamming the defending champion down with a chokeslam. Having been relieved of the ECW Championship with no chance to defend himself, will Guerrero retaliate Tuesday night?

Guerrero isn’t the only competitor Kane has to look out for, however. The Money in the Bank Ladder Match came down to a struggle between Chris Jericho and CM Punk. Though Y2J grasped the briefcase first, it was the Straightedge Superstar who managed to remove it from its hook. With a golden opportunity in his briefcase waiting to be exercised at Punk’s will, the Straightedge Superstar has the power to avenge his previous loss of the ECW Title with the championship of his choice. What lies ahead for Punk in the Land of the Extreme?

While Shelton Benjamin demonstrated why he calls himself the “Gold Standard” of ECW when he defeated Carlito in a preview to the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Benjamin wasn’t able to keep up his hot streak at WrestleMania XXIV. Neither he or fellow ECW Superstar John Morrison could become “money” and earn the Extreme title opportunity.

Find out what’s in store for these ECW Superstars and others on the first post-’Mania edition of ECW on Sci Fi, Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

More odd booking with Face Show and Face Colin. They could've done something with Show refusing to chokeslam Colin or something. But they didn't. Weird.

Pretty boring show. I guess they didn't give much thought after the incredible Mania and even more incredible RAW.

Kane hasn't been this talkative in too long. It's been 10 years since he was WWE(F) champion, so this was, in a sense, way overdue.

Was it just me, or did Chavo buy some Rogaine recently? Doesn't look like he has any bald spots now.

Pity poor Colin Delaney. You could see this April Fool swerve a mile away, but it didn't look to me like Big Show's heart was really in it, like he took pity on the kid. What does Estrada have against Delaney to keep punishing him like this?

Okay, so Mike Knox gets another pin back from Stevie Richards. Counting last week's tag match, that evens the score. Would like to see Knox get a shot at Kane, just to see if he's worthy.

One of these weeks, Colin is going to snap. If Tazz does another in-ring interview with him, I'd like to see Colin just go off. He's not Mikey Whipwreck 2.0. He doesn't get enough offense in, and it took Mikey, what, about a year before he finally won one?

No girl power again this week. WTF?

I liked Kane kicking off the show. ECW could benefit from a championship reign by an established veteran. They haven’t had that since Big Show, but then again, the brand is much more under the SmackDown umbrella than when everyone expected Benoit to become the champion.

I liked the ‘mobile’ background on Knox and Stevie—I hadn’t seen that footage. The two really brought it in the ring too. With little PPV attention, ECW needs some good TV feuds and this certainly could be one.

Colin Delaney is back to his losing ways. I did love his reaction to Big Show and how Show almost seemed to feel sorry for him.

The Flair recap video was nice with the cuts of the past and then scenes from Monday. I trust/hope SmackDown will show it as well.

The main event was pretty good with a couple of pretty strong teams. I think the future of ECW is in pretty good hands.

He actually had hair transplant replacement surgery (http://www.medicalhairrestoration.com/celebrityallstars.aspx) (as did Jimmy Hart and Tommy Dreamer, I think Larry Zbysko too).

Armando Estrada's April Fool's prank was great, and it made me remember how awesome he used to be before WWE apparently decided that the fans don't deserve his entertaining promos. "APRIL FOOLS HAHA!"

I never want to hear that Red Hot Chili Pepers song again, and hopefully Tazz singing it was the last nail in the coffin.

On the other hand, they've done such a great job with the Flairwell video packages. Through their ups and downs, WWE will always be amazing at those.
