did anyone at CN think about the fact that the new adult swim on saturdays will be running at the same time as saturday night live and other shows of that nature? if theyre really trying to atract an older fan base, then i think their gonna be dissapointed when the ratings come in...

They're counter-programming. Hence the reason they didn't move their AS comedy block to Saturday. They're putting action stuff on Saturday night for those of us that don't need to watch a show that saw its heyday about 10-20 years ago :)

its not just SNL, theres also WWF Excess (which has been doing great in the ratings lately), theres TNN Slammin Staurday nights AND theres that ESPN and fox sports net (what i usually watch on sat, nights) saturday night blocks. will a anime block beat those ratings titans? i really dont think so
o yea, then theres MTV's "The Hook Up" block as well

Guess what.... I don't fit any of those shows either. Guess CN's alternative is the best out there for me. It might not beat those other programs but it's bound to do a heck of a lot better than whatever else CN had on Saturday nights.

People that like wrestling more than AS don't belong in the pool.

Ok, lets see...
SNL: You can only recycle crap so much...
WWF: Blah.
TNN ANYTHING: Heh... no thanks.
Sports? Nope, not here.
MTV? See all of the above.
I know what I'm watching. :)

Honestly, I will be watching AS tonight. I cant begin to describe how bored I am with SNL, & I HATE MadTV...it's just a crappy rip-off, which can't, & wont ever be nearly as good at SNL ever was...
So, while people are sitting, watching the same ol' re-used lines and such(Can't they come up with anything new for Bush? Geeze! He's so borring, especially NOW), I'm gonna sit & watch Yu Yu Hakusho, and other various "less-edited" anime.

I would say that the comedy ratings would be hurt more if that was played on sat but the action wont be hurt as bad.

Nothing will stop me from seeing what FUNI did to Yu Yu Hakusho. Since thery're now doing Dragonball rather well, they should do great things with YYH.

well obviusly all of use here are gonna watch it, thats why we're here in this forum in the first place. im talking about the majority of the people, not only us. what im saying is, who else is gonna watch AS besides us? becuase most adults would be normally tuned in into ESPN sportscenter.

Umm......
I confused...
the tone of this thread's purpose seems to be that having it on Saturday night is a bad idea....and that confuses me. Why is Saturday night any worse than Thursday night? (It is for me, but I'll get to that in a minute)
Saturday night has the advantage of being a weekend...people don't have to get up as early in the morning as they would on a Friday morning to goto work. Yeah, alot of the college crowd they're counting on will be out...but if they decide not to party, there's a decent chance they'll watch this if they want action. If the rating drop to drastically, they'll move it back..
For me, I hate the change cause my "weekend" is Thursday & Friday...so for me, the Thursday night AS was perfect for me. oh well...guess I'll have to set my VCR....so much to watch, and only a 2 hour tape (cause my VCR Garbles SLP...=\ )

I agree with vince. What the hell does CN play on sat nights anyways? They should a large increase from what they normally get.

Now, really...
How many people watch SNL or MadTV mainly because there's nothing good on?
I'm more than happy to forget about SNL and MadTV for a late-night action block.
While AS Comedy is placed perfectly (not much on TV late Sunday night), AS Action is placed in the second-best spot.
It's just another test by CN that is in the hands of Williams Street.
It's up to you guys to watch and get other people to watch. A successful mature Action block is just one step closer to an all Anime/Toonami/Action animation channel.

More importantly, who really watches Sportscenter at 11 PM on a Saturday night? My father's a hardcore Sportscenter otaku, and even he wouldn't watch it on SATURDAY NIGHT.
Adult sports fans usually go to bed at that time.
And if anyone's still watching SNL/Mad TV....... why?

Just on Comedy Central on those rare days they play the older ones.

Celebrity Jeopardy, since they occasionally air it on reruns. That, and Weekend Update. Most other SNL anymore is crap, unfortunately. And all of MadTV is crap, and always has been.
Still, I've got my VCR set for ASA, since I'm probably not going to get a chance to watch it "live".

most adults would be normally tuned in into ESPN sportscenter
I don't think that's a truism at all. Maybe all the adults (adult males possibly as a subset) are sports fans but that doesn't mean:
- all adult males are sports fans (Last I checked I'm adult - at least by age - and I'm male... and I hate sports).
- that all sports fans would be tuned to SportsCenter on Saturday night. As Matt mentioned his dad is a sports fan and doesn't watch SC on Sat. night
So in the Venn diagram we've virtually drawn we can see that even in the subset of all males that are sports fans not all of them are watching SportsCenter.
I think Saturday night is a very flexible viewing time where everything is up for grabs (I sense a lot of channel surfing going on). CN is trying to provide something consistent (SNL is anything but - many viewers probably watch SNL to see the guest host or musical guest so their viewership contains a bit of tranistory viewers) so people will come back week after week.

Weekend Update went to the ****ter after Norm McDonald left that piece of crap show...
SNL started going downhill before I was born...
Mad TV was never good...
period...
Never watched a full episode, and never will...

you mean Denis Miller...Kevin & Norm were no where near as good, but Jimmy & Tina make a good duo, and Wekend Update is getting alot betterer.

Personally, I don't like SNL, its recycled crap and was better 15 years ago. Its not on anyways because of the olympics. I have hated MadTV since its inception, its never going to get better. I like sports, but not on a saturday night. I'd rather watch cartoons/anime. So ASA definitely has a loyal watcher here. I am a college student though, so if I do go out, my VCR will cover for me and all will be well.
If I want to watch SNL's celebrity jeopardy I just download it. Its funnier in mp3 form anyway. As for weekend update, Norm was pretty cool until he started pulling that "note to self" crap. Colin was the best, I liked him. I don't like the Jimmy and Tina duo but thankfully, now that there is something else on on saturday nights, I don't have to watch SNL anymore :)
