View Full Version : "Stitch!" Anime Information

So, I thought I'd post here for the general anime information surrounding the Stitch! anime.

First off, I'm still working on translating all the information that was posted at Tokyo Anime Fair 2008, so I won't be able to give all the information that is available currently. I'll also have to double check against the released information as well, so hopefully this is accurate.

Basic Plot
Hanako, a young girl who lives on the island of Izayoi off of Okinawa, lives a rather normal life with her grandmother, Obaa. She has grown up living a rather formal life as a Japanese girl, as well as being taught and learning Karate. Somewhere out in space, an alien escapes confinement and heads to Earth, crach landing onto one of Japan's islands, that same island that Hanako resides on. On that fateful day, Hanako discovers the alien, who's name is Stitch. The two, instantly becomes friends... Not too far away in space, others are also heading to Earth.

New Characters

Hanako - As mention in the plotline above, Hanako is the new girl who will be replacing Lilo in this adaption. From available information and screenshots, she is a young girl, who has brown hair, wrapped in pigtails, as well as brown-red eyes. She is also very formal and very japanese, and finds Stitch's behavior rather "unfitting", causing them to fight alot. However, she is also having problems living with her grandmother, Obaa.

Obaa - Not much information was given about her. What is available, is that she is the grandmother of Hanako. She is also raising her. It is unknown as to what happened to her parents and why she isn't living with them, but it can be assumed that it is the same case as Lilo.

Zimnar - Not quite sure who this is. He (she?) is rather small, red, and chubby. It has red hair and wears a green leaf skirt.

Past Characters

Stitch - As in the past movies and series, Stitch escaped confinement and escaped into earth. Here, on one of the island's of Japan, he meets a young girl named Hanako. However, he soon becomes a target...

Jumba & Pleakley - These two characters I can confirm right now are returning. I haven't really looked over their profile, but they appear to have gone to Izayoi Island to search for something, which I'm assuming Stitch, which would make sense.

Additional Information

As been mentioned before, while the actual human designs will be modified, majority of the alien designs remain untouched, and are only modified ever so slightly in order to not clash with the style of the environment. The human's are given a different look than what is seen in the movies and cartoon series, and are in line more with a typical "anime" look. The best example would be the humans look closer to how they look in PowerPuff Girls Z.

There are also more characters

The past voice actors who voiced the roles for the characters, such as Kouichi Yamadera as Stitch and Shouzou Iizuka as Jumba, haven't been confirmed as to whether or not they will reprise their roles from the Japanese dubs and Japanese animated shorts of the series. My best guess is they probably will, but Madhouse may come out and surprise us with an entirely new cast.

Trust me, the information here is legit. I'll post a source here later, since I'm at school.

So the characters that were in the old series look the same but they added two new characters? Very odd. What about the villains will that shark guy be back? He was the main villain in the other series. Wonder if they could make this be darker than the orginal series.

Given what we know, it'll probably just be fluff. (moreso than the American series)

This might turn out good. And what's interesting is the original designs for Stitch and the other characters are retained.

Wow, the alien designs are identical to the original Disney designs. I figured Japan would take a few more creative liberties than that.

Are people really surprised? Since when has Japan ever taken an American property and changed the target demographic when they remade it?

Felix the Cat were both for kids, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were both for kids, Powerpuff Girls/Z were both for kids, Witchblade was both for adults, and now this. One could argue they toned it down (especially PPGZ) but they pretty much kept their original audiences.

I don't think anyone expected a different demographic. Different designs, maybe (those new characters don't fit all that well with the old ones).

Wasn't the point of the original Lilo and Stitch being two odd misfits finding a place with each other?

Hanako doesn't seem like a misfit.

So this is new girl is pratically the anti-Lilo then? Even though the TV show kind of lost Lilo's original character from the first movie this is worse. Also this sounds a watered down version of the American TV show, which really wasn't all that great to begin with. No thanks, I'll pass.

(Big YES I AM sign appears over garfield15)

Well, I kinda wanted to see her and Stich's relationship in the first series. I figure with Japan's...um...creative touch, she'll be just like a romantic in an anime.

Uh...

When has Japan ever remade Ninja Turtles? The only thing I can think of was a two-episode OVA that bombed horribly.

Here's a youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDS1pTH0vLE) cellphone recording of the preview. The picture is bad and the sound is nonexistent. Hmm, doesn't look too different from the series. Hanako appears to be older than Lilo. Stitch has a fancy new way to identify experiments.

Was that roc suppose to be an experiment or something?

It's Lilo and Stitch the series with a Japanese television animation budget.
Except a little bit more lame.

Well, I'm sure someone's going to enjoy this.

Looks like a chicken to me. :)

Hasn't Madhouse animation done better animation in other animes? I don't remember what they've worked on.

Just a note, that the trailer was a pilot. So it doesn't represent what the actual quality of the series will be like.

They did BECK, Black Lagoon, Chobits, Claymore, Monster, Paradise Kiss, Paranoia Agent, Texhnolyze, Trigun, and X for TV, along with movies like Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, and Paprika, so yeah, they're really talented.

In fact, I'm kind of surprised they're taking this on. It's the most kid-targeted title they've done since Cardcaptor Sakura.

Besides the art style how will the animation be different from Disney?

I think that watch doesn't identify new experiments, but somehow tells what Stitch's "Goodness level" is.

And what's with all this talk of Madhouse Animation? I thought Toei did this.

Toei Animation did RoboDz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboDz). Telecom Animation (w/ TMS) will be doing Robo Crosser, which airs next year.

Watching the trailer, I'm not sure I could really get used to that new animation style with the original designs. The colors and backgrounds look a lot closer to the movie than the first series did, but the movements that seem so normal in other anime just make the characters here looks stiff and stunted. It's even wierder when they use some of those anime-style expressions, like the way Pleakly's tears looked. I wonder how the music will be handled? I can't imagine them doing worse than the first series did.

Lilo being raised by her granny instead of her bigger sister Nani? What are the habits of the Japanese to do that?

Very few. Probally they read only from the history books and looked at what childen would commonly live with in Japan.

Edit: I've seen enough. I decided to turn it off 30 seconds in the video. My eyes are offended by what I see. EPIC FAIL!

Eh, it's not that surprising.

They also did the Megas XLR pilot and the pilot for Micah Wright's proposed series, 'Constant Payne', and those are both aimed at kids.

'Course, Megas was...5 years ago, about, so yeah, I guess it has been a while.

Sometimes trailers are worse than the actual show, and other times they are way better.

Well, Powerpuff Girls Z was definitely worse than its pilot animation wise, but hey, it's Toei, that's par for the course with them.

Madhouse may mean this won't look quite as bad when it's aired, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Ykwia

I don't think that'll happen.

The first impressions mostly tell the entire show, and if it turns out more horrible then this. I'm avoiding this.

So, now that this is out I'd like to know - does this erase the old series (L&S, L&S 2, TV series & finale/pilot films) or continue it?

This looks cool and I'd love to see it, but I do have one question.

When will this be english dubbed and air on Disney Channel U.S.A.?
