For those who have seen the current interface for the PlayStation store, it's lacking and clunky. When browsing in standard definition, it's even worse. The web interface is gone in favor of a SingStar Store-inspired design. Notable changes include the addition of eight categories instead of four, which should aid in load times, browsing, and finding content.

While current store content will still be available for download and purchase, there will be no store updates on April 3rd or April 10th. Store and weekly Rock Band updates, including this week's free song "Still Alive" from Portal, will resume when the new store relaunches in time for the release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on April 17th.

I'm hoping this update is more than just cosmetic. I'm very disappointed in having to wait to get my hands on "Still Alive", but hopefully the wait will be well worth it.

Here's some more updates from the PlayStation blog.

The new store will no longer be web-based, which means a much improved browsing experience.
The SD version will be similar and be expanded from the three category limit.
There will be "dynamic changes" every time you log in, but no background variation yet.
