The NHK anime is ok for those not for those not fammiliar with previous versions of the story, but I thought the Manga was far better. If only because it was so much darker.

Good review though.

Yeah the manga goes into even deeper and darker places, plus the ending is really good.

Never saw the end of the anime though, so I can't compare there.

I've been watching this on TAN, and yeah, it's pretty awesome. Very interesting watch, though I find the artistry to be sometimes weak and inconsistent. I think the voice acting is very good however.

I only have the first DVD right now, and yeah, the animation quality goes from decent to godawful halfway through the fourth episode. Hopefully things get fixed afterwards.

Also, this has to be one of the best dubs I've ever heard. The voice actress for Misaki sounds really natural.

Oh yeah, the 4th episode had really bad animation. But don't worry, from what I can remember, the 5th episode went back to being decently-animated again.

Darker? I saw the ending on the anime, and right up until the very end I can't imagine how somethign could be darker. Yow!

Even while I was reading it, I couldn't believe it could get any darker. Then it did.

You really wanna know?

Major Manga spoilers. Only for the people who've seen the anime and don't feel like touching the manga.
For one, Misaki's crazy in the manga. I don't mean crazy like she is in the anime, I mean psychopath crazy. You know that MMORPG story arc? In the manga, she decides to "cure" him by tying him to a chair, turning all of the lights off, and playing mindgames with him in an attempt to brainwash him. Later, it's also revealed that she taps his phones, bugs his room, and does a whole lot of other "not quite right" stuff. We're also treated to a depressing attempt to go back to school, proving that she's incapable of meshing with people.

In the manga, Saito also gets booted from his apartment and lives as a hobo for a while, then he and Yamazaki start "spreading the sacred crop to save the world". (growing pot in the park and selling it) That girl he liked in high school also has a relapse at some point. At the end of the manga, it's revealed that Misaki had ran away from home at some point, and was living on snack foods up in the rafters of Saito's apartment.

Near the end of the manga, they're all so screwed up that it's impossible to make sense of what they're saying. I couldn't believe how dark the manga was compared to the anime.
