Only Tenchi I've seen is three episodes of Universe, which I didn't like too much.

Universe the TV series was the beginning of character assassination Tokyo took to a disturbing extreme. Also, it introduced the pointless Kiyone, who's whole schtick is "woe is me for my partner is an idiot."

The OVA's were better at least.

As you probably gather from my review, I tend to like all things "Tenchi". I think the first TV series was successful because it managed to capture the core essense of each character of the OAV series, even if it dispensed with the complicated backstory and more subtle character aspects of the OAVs. I agree "Tenchi in Tokyo" was the weakest of all the "Tenchi" efforts, though unlike many people I think the series did have its moments (like Tenchi's date with Ryoko, for instance).

Still, of all the "Tenchi" universes, the original still stands out as the best with innumerable stories yet to be told, and it's nice to finally see some more episodes after way too long.
