Just because I'm crazy, I applied to three art programs and consequently had to make three portfolios. I've mailed in two of them already and just have one more.

This one needs an essay.
"In 300 words or fewer, write a brief description of your artistic training, include any formal and educational training that you may have received, and your attraction to the animation fields."

My immediate instinct was to write "I'm attracted to it because it's just too damn good-looking and sexy." :D

I really do want to work in animation, but I don't know how to phrase that nicely, in the way that they want.

Okay citizens. We all love cartoons. Now here's your chance to state why you love cartoons so much! :D

(Just to reassure you, I'm not going to plagiarise any of you, I just need some ideas)

Okay, don't know if this will help...but I'll try. ;)

I love animation so much because I think that it is one of the most expressive art forms out there. With animation the artist can tell complex stories, show emotions, and basically be much more creative than anyone can with the options that are open with live action shows and movies. So many possibilities are open with animation, especially right now, and the sky seems to be the limit. I also love the fact that with animation, the animators can create a character who is so real that audiences often care about the character as if it was a real person. That especially is why I think that animation is one of the most powerful forms of art.

Well put Tuffycatt. Just to add a little:

I like animation because it has the potential to appeal to many various audiences. Kids to adults, there's something for everyone. If you grow up with animation, it's like you're stuck with it for the rest of your life. :D Hope that helps... :)

I love animation because I am attracted to the surreal. All forms of animation, whether dealing with realistic subjects or mundane situations, are inherently surreal. They tantalize the imagination and helps encourage me to see things in different ways. Animation gives me a personal creative charge, moreso than live action often. When I watch another person's work, my mind starts to work and exercises my imagination.

So, it does something for me personally. It inspires me, intrigues me, and gives me ways of seeing the world differently.
