View Full Version : The Most Powerful Mod

Just out of curiousity- Who is the most powerful moderator of the boards? Like, if you disagreed about something, who would outrule the others? Jim Harvey? Maxie Zeus? Calhoun07? Do tell, do tell! ;)

Well, it's complicated but the easiest reply I can give is...we're all on the same level. We all have the same abilities and duties. We rarely diagree becuase we trust each other so much, and we also respect one another. If Maxie deleted a post I didn't see, then I'd trust him on it. Cal and Maxie and whomever else would do the same for me. And to be honest, I don't think we've disagreed yet.

The real answer of course, is me.
I'm the secret force behind Toonzone, and I control everything.

Would the administrators be considered mods? If so, they're probably more "powerful" than the moderators.

Yeah - we administrators do have a bit more power than the mods, but not that much. We're essentially on the same par. The great thing about the Mod Squad here is that everyone trusts and gets along with each other. We've had no real conflicts and it's great. The extra stuff that Admins can do is simple stuf flike make new boards, move around boards and tweaks and just alot of behind the scenes stuff that nobody sees, though is essential...but will forever remain a mystery...

I think that the unique thing about this board is that the mods do trust each other and there is no second guessing of moderator actions. The mods keep corrective action to a minimum and only get involved when action warrants it. On some other boards I've been on I get the feeling that the mods just wanted to throw their weight around. I'm glad that thought is given to who deserves the right and privilage to be a moderator.

Harley, Brian, and Colin are the most powerful since they created the site.

Click on the link "forum leaders" on the main page of the forums. Upper right hand corner. That should tell you.

Another way to ID mods vs. administrators: In the "Who's Online" at the bottom of the main page, the mods are in bold, and the admininstrators are in bold-italics. :) As Jim said, an administrator isn't really a "more powerful" mod, they're just someone with the ability to go in and do technical stuff like create new boards.
And as I can attest to after this week's split of AniGen, that's not a power, that's a "responsibility"! :D
We all defer to Brian and Harley and Colin, since they're the "Toon Zone" honchos. But they rarely get involved in the day-to-day stuff. And a lot of times we just defer to each other. Like Jim said, if one of us does something, the others support it. And on really difficult matters we get together and confer and reach a consensus.
Come on now, we all know that Maxie is the most powerful! Who could oppose the god of the skies??
;)
LOL! No, it just means they all think I suffer from oxygen deprivation! :D

LMAO = Laughing My Butt Off, only you replace "butt" with a more explicit 3-letter word for the same body part. ;)

One thing that Admins can do over Mods is post news stories, Mods can only edited them. But the staff still needs to know what is going on before posting a front page story.
Like yesterday, I wanted to declare war with Animation Blast and Comics Continuum but the red tape stopped me from going totally bonkers and starting a World War Wide Web.

Really? This is why I usually don't inforce rules even at the CCF board, because I don't know what the rules are.
I had no problem with ROTFLMAO(rolling on the floor laughing my ass off) but it seemed like the posters were having a laugh at "getting away with something".

Hardly.... first, redDragon and Clayface help out someone with Internet lingo. Afterwards, Clayface made an observation of something he did not know before. Finally, redDragon offers Clayface some advice on forum usage. That is all. I'm pretty sure I know these particular posters, and they're good blokes.

If the boards are considered to be rated PG, then what's wrong with ass? Of course, I understand if some people have a greater senstivity to that word than some others. I have used words before that some people take offense to. Like suck and screw, but those are more acceptable than ass by the majority, I suppose. But another thing an administrator could do is tweak the auto censor so that word would show up censored if used, if it bothers people!

I think "ass" was verboten once upon a time. Then we just got tired of enforcing it cuz posters kept using it. :yakko:

I'm curious, like, who decides who becomes a mod or admin? When Bird Boy became a mod recently, I remembe JH saying it, but did all the mods and admins have a chat or something?

Wow, a talk on mods and we suddenly have mods coming in to moderate. :D (just kidding, guys!)
I suspect that mods and admins have a chat with the would be mod in order to see how the guy would be-as said, the mods/admins all have a bit of power, and every vote counts. The would be mod has to be very nice and fair already, and of course be an avid Toon Zone poster. ;)

Each board sorta has it's own team. My boards are the WF Boards, so if we make additions to the mod team, then I usually discuss it with the WF Mods. We'll discuss it just to make sure we're not making a mistake or anything. We'll talk it over to make a safe decision.
Is it fun being a mod? Just wondering :)

I'd use ROTFWL-meaning"rolling on the floor with laughter", since I'm one of those people who doesn't like using bad words.
I, too, was wondering who the most powerful mod is. It's nice to know that their power is basically equal. :)

As for modding...well, there's a sig quote someplace here from Twain I'd like to paraphrase, if I may: "I am not a mod, and I hope to be a good person so that God will not make me one." ;)

Dr. Belch has it about right. I had 4 AIM windows going with mod business today, plus the PM pop-ups, while simultaneously skating thru the boards reading posts and fiddling with the AniTainment board's colors. And I don't think I was doing 20% of what Harley and Brian were juggling. :)

I've recently been promoted to administrator along with two other people at the other message board I most frequent at- a Cybersix message board (Although it's mostly a general/arts board now). I do jack- don't fiddle with the controls, background wallpaper or anything. I usually just moderate.... my favorite job... :)

Modding is a LOT of work (it takes me a couple of hours each day to look through all the posts under my jurisdiction), but it's fun. Especially here, since TZ is amazingly democratic, and big decisions are discussed by all the mods.
Meanwhile, I'll soon be wielding my power over these parts... watch out, evildoers! Muahahahaha!
