Do you enjoy watching new Smallville on The CW? Well I have good news, there is more tonight at 8 p.m. ET. Last time was Fracture (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=205716).

Kara (Laura Vandervoort) and Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore) attend a "One Republic" concert and one of the roadies turns out to be former Smallville resident Pete Ross (guest star Sam Jones III). Pete unwittingly chews some kryptonite-laced gum and develops super powers. Clark (Tom Welling) and Chloe (Allison Mack) are thrilled to meet up with their old friend but warn him against using his powers in public.
However, Lex (Michel Rosenbaum) discovers Pete's powers and blackmails him into helping break into a Lionel's (John Glover) safe by threatening to reveal Chloe is a meteor freak.
Kristin Kreuk and John Glover also star. Michael Rohl directed the episode written by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing.

You're not kidding, it was everywhere! D:
As soon as I saw Pete's powers I couldn't stop making One Piece jokes. "Pete's now Luffy!" (xD)
I really wanna see the next episode.

I'm wondering how this ended since I only saw up to the part where Clark confronted Pete in Loinal's safe.

Stride gum product placement :) .
It was good to see Pete again. Too bad he was temporatly turn into meteor freak. We also have another clue that Lionel is up to something evil. Anyway it was an average episode.

They keep nagging Clark this season about not suiting up. Hilarious, like the blantant "What's with all the Stride?" stuff.

I can honestly say I was disappointed in Pete becoming the "freak of the week." That's what this episode felt like to me- as if it were from season 1 or 2, but that's appropriate considering Pete was from those seasons. I thought Chloe was going to offer to heal Pete at the end. Jimmy certainly didn't like that hug Chloe was giving Pete at the end.
So Lionel has been hiding Kara's bracelet, Clark then hides the bracelet, and now Kara is moving in with Lex? I'm glad they are finally making Lionel the manipulative man again, now that Martha is gone, but having three plots shown in this one episode seems like they are wanting to rush through the season.
Next week Clark and Lionel faceoff, and Kara returns to the fortress. It should be rather interesting.

I guess this is the closest thing we'll get to Plastic Man until the embargo ends. I was waiting for the Static Shock in-joke, with someone referring to Pete as "Rubberband Man", but I was disappointed.

Pete dead? Possibly coming back at a later point? Does the poor man even get to yell at Clark for so quickly forgetting about him?
I want Pete to get some kind of on-screen revenge at WB's expense for being the lamest main cast member in the show's history
Does it happen?

So...someone want to tell me again why Heroes will never give anyone stretching powers because it's too expensive for a TV budget?
I was pretty generous with my rating for the episode, I didn't let the product placement bother me too much, but Clark was experiencing some massive superdickery in this episode. I know they have that whole "kryptonite powers make you crazy" bit, but Clark jumped to conclusions with Pete way too fast.
I liked seeing Pete back, though. I feel sorry for Jimmy, not getting those elastic powers. Maybe some day, Jim!
I guess this is the closest thing we'll get to Plastic Man until the embargo ends.
I swear, that thing Kara pulled out of Clark's trunk in the barn WAS Eel O'Brien.

They make it clear in the episode that Clark has tried calling Pete, but Pete has never returned his calls, meaning that Clark never forgot Pete. They do have Pete use kryptonite on Clark at one point in the episode though as a small token of revenge that Pete has always wanted for Clark always being the hero in the episode.

Wonder Woman cd...?

Y'see that bugs me. Pete not calling? Sure, I believe that. Clark lied to him for years about being an alien, and then when he told Pete, it caused him nothing but trouble and he ended up having to leave town. But then they go and have Pete douse him with kryptonite again, and that just cheeses me off.
If Pete was supposed to be Clark's best bud, why have they always written him as such a jerk when it comes to the super-powers thing? The first time Pete used the rock on Clark (when Pete was hopped up on some bug in his system) I knew the writers didn't give a hoot whether Pete was really a nice guy at heart or not.
oy.

It was really nice seeing Pete again. It seems like it so long ago that he left Smallville, no longer able to handle his knowledge of Clark's secret. He wasn't completely happy with Clark, but at least he wasn't horribly and bitterly angry either.
I thought getting powers from gum was a bit out there, but I guess it was still exposure to meteor rocks coupled with an intense event as typically the case. I gotta give it up for stretching powers from gum though.
I like seeing Jimmy and Chloe make up fully, we'll have to see how that cup of coffee goes.
I am very worried about Kara and how close she is getting to Lex. The younger Luthor seems to become more dangerous as times goes on. I remember earlier on in the show, I think we were waiting for some watershed moment that turned Lex fully evil (like killing Lionel) but it seems that Lex Luthor has just been evolving (or devolving) into the man who will becoming Clark/Superman's arch-nemesis for the rest of time.
Introducing new Stride Gum-Gum.
The product placement is blatant in this ep. even for Smallville. My only question is, is it worth winning a year's supply of Stride Gum in the contest? To see their other commercials, that might be a pack at most! :p
So...someone want to tell me again why Heroes will never give anyone stretching powers because it's too expensive for a TV budget?I don't watch Heroes, but I would speculate that one episode never to be repeated is less of a big deal than having a regular character who does it all the time.

oy.I thought you weren't able to see the episode, DB. The krypto-gum was affecting Pete's mind. That is why he stuck the meteor rock on Clark, not because he is a jerk. I will grant that Pete seemed like he didn't want to kill Clark, yet placed the rock squarely on his chest.

You're right I didn't see the episode - but it seems like every time Pete is being affected by some power (bug in his body, super-powers, whatever) his instincts kick in and he takes advantage of Clark's weakness and tries to kill him.
Chloe sure doesn't do that when she's infected in some way. And that's where the difference lies. Chloe is Clark's *real* best friend.
All this to say, I still thinks it's extremely cheap of Smallville and the WB to have put their black Pete Ross in all the promos back when the series was being launched when they never made anything good out of the character. It was all for show, and that will always rub me the wrong way.
So yeah. I really wanted them to do something interesting with Pete, even now that's he's back for one episode. But from reading this thread it sounds like the same-old-same-old. Folks are happy purely because Pete made another appearance, more than anything else, it seems.

You're right I didn't see the episode - but it seems like every time Pete is being affected by some power (bug in his body, super-powers, whatever) his instincts kick in and he takes advantage of Clark's weakness and tries to kill him.It wasn't about hurting Clark though, it was about protecting Chloe and her secret from Lex, Clark got in the way of Pete being able to do that (revisting Pete having a crush on Chloe in the process). I just think it goes a bit far to deride something you haven't seen based on your assumptions. You may prove yourself right (at this point it would be tough not to) when you see, but you aren't in a place to sit in judgment of the episode or how Pete acted.

Well, I can certainly form judgements based on the past patterns of behavior we've seen in the show, and the facts people have mentionned in this thread discussing events that happened in the episode.
Pete tends to be angsty with regards to Clark's secret, and when infected, always uses kryptonite on him.
Sure, there are details being left out in that statement, but it's hardly false. And what it boils down to, is that I don't like the character because of it, or the writers and the show for writing him that way.
I don't see the problem. I'm not bashing the episode.
Anyways...the full recap I just read at television without pity (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/Shows/Smallville/Stories/Blue?currentPage=1) hardly paints a more flattering picture of Pete's actions.

Pete most probably had all intentions of coming back to help Clark once he confronted Lex (i.e. kill him) but he knew Clark would stop him so he took him out. Heck, had Pete simply used the rock to knock Clark over the head he would have taken him out for long enough, I'd say. Although, Clark's powers would have kicked back in espicially being on [what appears to be] the top floor on a rather sunny day.
Oh well, I say we blame it all on Superman-Prime. :)

I just want confirmation whether or not stretching is more expensive to show than intangibility, healing, and electric blasts.

Well, let's remember that Heroes is still a new show while Smallville is a proven veteran and a show about the greatest/most iconic superhero and all.

But from reading this thread it sounds like the same-old-same-old. Folks are happy purely because Pete made another appearance, more than anything else, it seems.
I can't speak for anyone else who enjoyed his brief return, but like Perry's recent appearance in Hostage, seeing a character from the earlier seasons envokes nostalgia.
Now when Pete left, the show before hand saw some serious or dark moments. But compared to the the more recent seasons at the time (Season 5, 6 and to a lesser degree 7), the show was still fairly light hearted.
Compared Lex & Pete's encounter in Forsaken to their encounter in Hero to see what I mean.
But for a more smart aleck and humorous response to your post, the episode definitely felt like old times:
- Pete and Clark play some basketball.
- Pete uses kryptonite on Clark. (Good times, :D)
- And of course, Pete takes some time to talk about how the Luthor's are the worst thing since moldy bread.
