Hey Gang,
Have been doing some more research (okay and rechecking stuff). Am puzzled by something... Does anybody know where Disney's great Art Babbitt was from the time of the strike (1941) till he returned there in 1945??? I know he was at Schlesinger/Warners for a "brief" spell, but can't place him anywhere else (don't know if he went off to WWII either). Anybody with some inside dope or insights???

The only time I remember Art Babbitt being at Warner Bros. was in the 1960's where he animated on Friz Freleng's "Philbert" pilot project. Babbitt's primary responsibility was the main titles. I believe his regular crew were the other animators - Virgil Ross, Bob Matz, Gerry Chiniquy, Lee Halpern and Art Leonardi. The "Philbert" would have been his only screen credit for WB.

Hi, I'm glad you responded (was getting lonely :)) ... But the truth is that Art Babbit did work at Schlesinger/Warners during the big Disney strike. This was done at Bob Clampett's urging and Babbitt was accordingly placed in Clampett's unit. Neither one (to my knowledge) ever named which cartoon(s) Babbitt animated on (ditto for the work that Shamus Culhane did for Clampett there). Twenty years later Babbitt was indeed employed on "Philbert" BUT what is generally not known is that he also animated on Warners "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" somewhere under the Supervising Director Mr. Bill Tytla, his lifelong best friend!
