View Full Version : The 2008 [as] April Fool's Day Prediction Thread (Spoilers?)
As we all know, [as] loves April Fool's Day. And, we all know they love to mess around with us, the viewers, on this day. From mustaches to fart sounds, from Karate Kommandoes to Fan Service Moments, and from rearranging the schedule to airing the Aqua Teen movie in a little tiny box w/out sound a couple of weeks before it premiered in theaters, it's as consistent as them airing Family Guy. So, in other words, once it strikes midnight, transforming March 31st into April 1st, everything is fair game. Here's a picture:
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/tetrisdork/FairGame.jpg
Now, with the glorious day coming in a few weeks, and [as] being one step closer to either airing Family Guy or Bakugan non-stop as a non-April Fool's hoax, let's predict what crazy thing or things they will do on the day of Fools. Will we see a dramatic shift in the scheduling, resulting in them airing anime, a bad 80's cartoon, Captain Planet, a live-action show, or a mixture of all of the mentioned? Will they alter the shows scheduled, resulting in us watching The Boondocks in Russian? Speaking of which, will they show the 2 currently unaired episodes that were pulled unaltered, which they did do with GITS back in 2006? Or, will we all just get Rickrolled? :anime:
Here's a list of what [as] has done on this day, according to Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools'_Day#By_television_stations)
They'll promise to air the Aqua Teen Movie, instead they air the 12 Oz. Mouse DVD movie.

They'll promise to air a marathon of Blood+
But, the blood will be recolored as blue or green

They'll play the banned boondocks eps, but they'll be aired backwards. Or maybe they'll show an "abridged" style version of their anime (nowhere near as witty as LK's version of course).

Possible Jokes:
-Aqua Teen, Sealab, Xander (Or any of the 15 minute shows) overdubbed with various episodes of 'My Little Pony', 'Glo Friends', 'Potato Head Kids', etc.
- A Small Wonder marathon
- Digitally adding 'We Miss Futurama' to the shirts of various characters.
- Showing commercials for Hannah Montana merchandise during EVERY commercial break.
- A mock lookalike High School Musical cast hosting the block.

If it were on a Thursday, and re-licensing was not an issue, I would say they should play their very first day of Adult Swim programming from 2001.

I have this odd off the wall feeling that Adult Swim will do the following
1. They'll run Fooly Cooly into the ground.. or...
2. We get to watch all 115 sits of Inuyasha with sort of a Monty Python Larch joke idea..(#52 through 68.. the Kagome Superslam (SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT...!) or
3. Robot Chicken Star Wars episode.. times 6... or finally
4. Family Guy's "Blue Paradise" video (More star wars parody..)
:coyote:
A looped sequence of Kagome shouting "Sit Boy!" that lasts for the whole block.

They'll digitally insert Loo-kee from 'She-Ra' into the background of every show, or in very awkward places like Lois's breasts or Carl's sweatpants, then spoof the moral segment just before the end credits.

Maybe something like YouTube Poops. You know messing around with the filters, speeding up, slowing down footage, repeating phrases in hopes they becomes memes.

Since they aired a "worst episode" marathon of comedies, air an anime marathon of the worst episodes. And instead of anime at 5:30 a.m., they can air an episode of Family Guy to show it will still dominate anime in the ratings.
More predictions to come.

Actually how about this...
Through the entire block about every few scentences they put in Quagmire from Family Guy going
Giggity Giggity! and a lot of Quagmirisms. I mean hey if they can put Quagmire chasing Marge Simpson around the scrawler at the bottom, then why shouldn't AS do that.. Give us a mix of Quagmire and Kagome..(Sit Boy! Giggity Giggity!)
Now that.. would make anyone's ears bleed..

Because there's no anime to pre-empt, I am cynically predicting no April Fool's prank, or if there will be one, it is for some reason being moved to Saturday.
JTurner954
03-13-2008, 12:12 PM
- Have a Family Guy marathon consisting of every fight scene. They could even dub it with funny music.
- Air Meg Griffin focused episodes of Family Guy.
- Reair TBS programming from three hours earlier.
- Announce the renewal rights of a popular anime and proceed to air Reign: The Conqueror.
More to come.
Captain Highwind

Show the premiers for that coming Saturday, making everyone wonder what day it is.
Although I would miss it anyways, since I don't watch AS on the weekdays...

- Digitially adding 'Naruto' headbands to every AS character.
- Full episodes of Superfriends and other clean cartoons that are edited with bleeps. (Like the Not for Air bumps a few years back)
- He-Man and She-Ra in: The Secret of the Sword (Either the movie version or the five episode arc it was cut into)
Why digitally paint in a headband? The way things are going, there's going to be a Naruto cutaway on Family Guy pretty soon.

You do realize that the last one would require them getting the rights to it. Personally, i'd like to see them announce the one-night-only return of brak, space ghost: c2c, and harvey birdman, then have the episodes take place during a blackout (a la the blackout ep of sealab 2021) and essentially be radio plays over a black screen.

They'll play all the shows, bumpers, and even commercials backward from end to beginning.
According to the 3/13 schedule, March 31st at midnight (aka the start of April Fools Day), it will be the Aqua Teen movie. Who thinks they will air Re-Animated, the movie that helped solidify live-action on CN?

If it's AFTER Midnight, then it's most likely the real deal for the Aqua Teen movie, since Comedy Central always airs the South Park Movie uncut in that time slot.

I'll have to squash some of your dreams.
"The Boondocks banned episode backwards" - Playing the audio backwards and the video backwards. Come on, there are programs that can reverse the video and audio making it forwards again. And therefore allowing the banned episode to be out on BitTorrent hours later. Easy.
"Inverted Video" - If it's anything new, video can easily be inverted back to normal colors. Lame
"Re-Animated" - We already have hell being played constantly on Cartoon Network. It's called "Out of Jimmy's Head", thank you very much.
"Out of Jimmy's Head" - Same reasons stated above.
If there's an april fools joke that's not done before. It's air stuff in black and white with horrible video quality, sound quality and static. Something [adult swim]'s never done before as an April Fool's Joke.

And if that doesn't clarify, ATHF:MFFT was shown in a small screen on April 1st.

No, it's really 12:00 am on April 1st. Meaning, still, fair game and, most likely, NOT the Aqua Teen Movie. Or, at least the one shown in theaters. Yes, I'm implying that they could show the "90 minutes of a whole 'nother movie."
And, SU182, the entire network or networks are in hell. And, yes, I mean both CN and [awful schedule]. Thanks to a freaky electrical storm that blacked out the entire city of Savannah, the only 2 ways for me to catch the last episode of Blood+ is either the Internet, or wait until [awful schedule's] schitzophenic scheduleing changes again (which, at the current rate, will happen this Tuesday) to where Blood+ reruns can exist. So, in all seriousness and reality, [as] will air Re-Animated and Out of Jimmy's Head throughout the day. If they air the final episodes of Blood+ in order with little or no alterations on April 1st, then I will call them again, Adult Swim. And, that's a fact and a promise.;) ( still angry, though)

- They'll air the regular schedule with anime at the corner of the screen.
- Anime will air for a while until Family Guy takes up half the screen. The audio will switch every 15 minutes.
- The regular schedule will air, but there will be no video. Instead, there will be sound with pictures of something else (anime characters, people walking down a street, a football game, people making out)
- A Bleach marathon where it appears the show has better pacing.
- Dethklok concerts
- Walkthroughs of every Adultswim.com video game

They could air the shows at the highest volume possible . Either that or do the opposite and air them at the lowest volume possible while still being somewhat audible.

...Well I think they still have all those shows. They're airing Home Movies and Birdman on weekdays right now, they made Space Ghost Coast to Coast and The Brak Show, and Bebop will be airing on Saturdays for a few weeks starting... March 29, I think? So it shouldn't be an issue.

Bluescreen in various live action people into the episodes. Or go the extra mile and do it with celebs like Seth Green, David Cross, etc, who aren't doing... anything, but mingling in the background.
Replace the audio with audio from another source.

Guess 1: Nothing is changed (But bumpers with the middle finger saying HA HA We Fooled You! will be showed)
Guess 2: Astro Boy Marathon
Guess 3: Schedule Voltron-Style (Spanish dub with english following it in backround)
Guess 4: Kitty Time
Guess 5: All Comercials
Guess 6: A blank screen, and at 3:46AM Brak comes on and starts singing randomly for 12 seconds and is cut mid-sentence
I like whoever suggested Boondocks eps. Prolly only way they'll be ever shown (The episodes are excruciatingly racist compared to an average Boondocks ep IMO)
They promise to show a movie, and they do show a movie.
Only problem is, it's a Toonami movie.

Worst WS April fools day ever.
I would have appreciated the giant moustaches better. The 80's cartoons>Perfect Hair forever the sub> fart sounds> moustaches> this
(these are the only ones I can remember)
I get the feeling they're saving the real stuff for tonight. Everyone'll be like "wtf? it was just an upfront", then tonight they'll pull the real joke.
I think without action programs to prank on WS lost the motivation to do something cruel, so they gave the comedy fans something to celebrate.

Actually, I appreciated the treats. AS actually doing something NICE for April Fools was something none of us ever expected, and so AS managed to make us look like fools anyway.
Unfortunately, I wish the quality of programs had been better than this. Venture Bros. looks as good as always (even in its rough cut) and Superjail holds a lot of gory promise, but the others left me honestly kind of cold. Robot Chicken in particular looks like it is stretched for ideas.

Anyone know what happened after?
From what we learned from this weeks' Everything Else thread, nothing else. The only "prank" was that the Midnight showing of AQHFCMFFT was replaced by what I will call "The 2008 [as] Upfront for Television."
Outside of a few moments (Venture and Superjail Rough Cuts, Morel Orel, Metalocalypse, and, for me, Delocated's Paul Rudd joke), it was a pretty lame April Fool's joke and day IMO.

I already recorded it on sunday so I was just sticking around to see what the joke was.
It was pretty lame. Nothing edited, nothing out of order, it's like it was on a differnet day and they couldn't do what they wanted to do. So they settled for something else.
Big thumbs down for this year's April Fool's Joke.

You know what [as] should of done to really piss us off? Show the rest of Death Note all in one night and never air it again, since either way, the eps won't get ratings, anyway.
I'd hate them for life, but commend them for trying something so evil.
