No. It's just who he is. (Though I haven't read the novel, so I'm not sure if it explains it there.)

It's just a habit. He says it helps him think better.

He's a quirky guy who always works in the dark, sitting like that helps him stand out in a memorable way.
I'm reminded of Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka. The first time you see Wonka in the film, he silently limps forward several paces- then falls and sumersaults into an upright position. Wilder wanted to do this so that you never could exactly trust what he was going to do next.

There's this pretty interesting essay that says L could have autism (http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:rOEMgJ4i8NUJ:www.drworm.net/lautism.htm) which would explain his L-ness.
The actual page (http://www.drworm.net/lautism.htm) is down and the Google cached version I linked doesn't provide images for the article sadly though.

In the notes from the author in one of the manga volumes the author says she finds herself sitting that way, so she likes to have L do the same.

Yes, he said several episodes back that sitting that way is the only way he can use 100% of his brain's capacity. I'm surprised so many people on this thread forgot that.
