Didn't see a proper thread for this game, so I thought I'd make one. I got this along with Geometry Wars: Galaxies (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=206633) over the weekend after Gamespot gave the game a decent 7.0 score. Just starting to get into it a bit, and its pretty fun. It seems very open ended in the sense that you can explore the island all you want and spend as much time leveling characters as you want before proceeding in the game. That brings me to the RPGish angle I like, namely that using an ability more often will cause it to level up faster. So far I have Luffy/Nami/Usopp/Chopper and am going to work them out a bit before I find the rest of the crew.

The AI does seem a bit dumb, at least when it comes to the generic marine solider. Then again I barely started the game, and to be honest the common marine is but cannon fodder in the show too. And its much better than crappy games like Soul Calibur Legends where enemies don't do much more than charge at you one at a time waiting to get slaughtered. So no real complaints, especially since all sorts of characters from the show are boss fights here.

As a game, I'd say its worth a look. If you're a One Piece fan with a Wii, I'd definitely get it. For one thing this game seems to flashback to moments in the show, so you'll be able to hear some things dubbed that will take awhile for the show to get to on DVD--in particular, Luffy's "SHUT UP! LET'S GO!" when recruiting Chopper at the end of the Drum arc was quite good.

According to Wiki, some fun One Piece humor made its way in too. For instance its apparently possible to get Usopp's Sogeking costume and Chopper has a "Chopperman" costume. If you save at Camp with that, apparently you can see Chopper flying in the background. :p

So how have others found the game?

Very, very repetitive.

The boss battles are pretty much the best thing about this game, though I'm still stunned Buggy never made it in, even as an optional boss.

No Buggy? Geez. I sure hope they're planning to fix that for the sequel games coming out in Japan later this year.

I really enjoyed it, by far the best anime based game I've played, and it did One Piece justice IMO. Despite being really repetitive, it did not fail to draw me in and keep me playing and collecting items for hours on end. The fact that you can switch characters at any time made it more fun to explore for endless hours without getting too bored. The characters were each different and unique in their movesets, and I loved the special attacks. And I was surprised at the depth of the game too, like having to use Zoro in the jungle to gain certain items that had to be "cut". It was also visually impressive, I loved the new outfits and seeing flashbacks done in cg, and the design of each section of the island was well thought out. Plus I really liked being able to hear the dub voices. The in-game story was nice too, although it wasn't very mysterious or enthralling it was fun, and Popora is a neat character. The boss fights were the best part of the game though, very intense. The second time I fought Whitebeard (and barely won) my heart was racing pretty fast, I loved the rush though. The alternate costumes are great fun too, I really like Luffy's pirate king outfit. The only thing that bugs me is the completition percentage. IMO, finding the treasure chests (unless they have something rare in them) and maxing out all the moves aren't really what I would consider necessary. The only thing I have left to unlock before I'm satisfied is Theme 6, and I'm only at 81 percent with everything else I did, blah.

I disagree. It took me awhile to figure out that only Zoro could cut the vines, and even then they were never consistent about how many 'pickups' they would drop. There needed to be some cue from the get-go that only certain characters could do certain things, otherwise it becomes frustrating.

It's a great game, and its definitely worth picking up if only to hear the Funi dub on past and future sequences. But powering up the orbs just seemed too arbitrary...why do you need to bring along a fruity drink to activate an orb point, for instance? And why is it you can find 5-6 potential orb points at any time, but only activate the one the game wants you to? It's like the game builds all these free-roaming, rpg elements, then forces you on a set path.

I'd have to agree that they needed to add that information somewhere. I had to read an faq to figure out how to get the vines and I'll admit it was frustrating, but still when I read it I was impressed they thought about it that much. *shrugs*

I'd have to agree about the orbs, collecting items for it was a pain, especially the gold ones. If they just lowered the amount and the specific items you need (or changed them to items you get from that specific area) then it would've been better. I kind of liked the orbs you had to come back to though, since in the long run you didn't really need to activate them (except for the extra bosses) but they did open up some neat shortcuts.

Sorry to bump the thread, but I just got the game the other day and have been playing it ever since.

It's alright, I guess, but the repetitive-ness of the game is starting to suck the fun out of it. Especially since the game is pretty much "go into an area and hope to god the enemies drop the items you need to proceed." Like Simpler Simon said, a lot of the orb stuff seems really, really arbitrary, and I can't fathom why, for example, I have to spend 30 minutes to find a damn bee just so I can proceed.

The camera in this game also sucks. Why would a game designer choose to have the camera focus on the enemies instead of the character you're playing as?

Despite all that, I'm still enjoying it, though. I really, really like the RPGish elements to it, and I'm having fun leveling up my characters and unlocking new moves. I also like how you're able to create new dishes/medicines/tools as you progress through the game...it really gives you a sense of accomplishment.

Is anyone still playing this game?

I'm still near the beginning of the game. Many things, game-related and otherwise, have distracted me from making much real progress. I finally have all the crew members and I have options to help Usopp create a stove, and there are some other things going on too.

In other words, I have a ways to go before my camp looks like the one on the title screen. :p

Man oh man, this game took my friend and I about 70 hours of play to complete (though we still don't have all of the characters unlocked, just 1 left I think).

It's a great game though. Especially for an anime based one.

SEVENTY!? Well...so much for having a short little game to kind of blast through like I expected

I'm sure its shorter if you know exactly what to do and/or don't try to do absolutely everything...I hope so, anyway. Thankfully, this is where FAQ's become useful.

Sketch, if you really have a crew member to find you must go do it! Your nakama's all alone, believing you'll show up... ;)

Well, I just fought Kaku last night. Took me two tries since he has that super cheap one-hit kill attack. Ugh.

I guess next up is more item collecting...
