This actually sounds more grounded and similar to earlier seasons. Hope it's good.

Last week, the 8:00 Simpsons was on at 9:30, the rest of the block was skipped, and NASCAR picked right back up after the news, so hopefully we'll get at least this episode a little later in the night if anything.

If it's not baseball it's football. And if it's not football its Nascar.

FOX, I'm happy for ya that your able to broadcast all this stuff but damn if it isn't annoying how the one night of broadcast TV I look forward to weekly is either pre-empted or not shown entirely.

I take it someone screwed up the time or something? (Seriously, can NASCAR end already?)

Whew. It's good to know everyone sees nothing but NASCAR.

I'm pretty peeved over this.

Thank you FOX. I get to see the last 2 laps of a race in a sport that I couldn't care less about.

Thankfully there's no American Dad tonight so we don't have to worry about missing an episode of that due to the late start.

Well, cute couch gag.

EDIT: A pointless character death (even if it was Moleman it was uncomfortable), a stupid Ralph line, a very sad Nelson "HA HA" and a very jerk-ass Homer.

Dotcha just love The Simpsons these days? I know I do.

All right, I'll concede that Bart's Skinner prank was actually executed well, despite how unoriginal it was (didn't Freleng do that twice?) Chalmers' act break line was funny though.

I thought he just laughed "See-Saw!"

Oh, Moleman can never die. The universe would never let him off that easy.

Yeah, he did. I like how the loaner car is basically an amalgamation of all the new car styles.

I liked the animation during the "controlling Skinner's shoes" gag, though the gag itself has been used decades before in the LT short "Bugsy and Mugsy", among others, I imagine.

Something occurred to me when Skinner demanded to know who pulled the prank: Shearer's voice just doesn't have the impact it used to. Remember the end of act one for "Whacking Day"? Skinner was pretty intimidating when he said Bart was expelled. I just didn't feel the same thing here.

So, Bart alluva sudden is the Marlo Stanfield of Springfield Elementary.

Brilliant.

"Do you do it with relish?"
"No I'm kind of embarrassed about it."

First big laugh of the episode for me.

And Speedy, of course Skinner's voice sounded different way back when. That was back when everyone involved with the show actually, you know, cared about what they were doing?

And the point of the Homer sub-plot was...?

To show how much he loves his old crappy car over a vastly superior one.

Noticed how even after being repaired it was still damaged at the front?? Lazy animators :p

Pretty good episode. It was great to see a Bart-centric episode. I was a bit worried when I saw that Topher Grace was the guest, but he pulled it off really well. The plot was good too, a bit old perhaps, but again, really well done.

Overall 7 out of 10.

EDIT: Forgot about Homer's sub-plot. Not bad, but the part when he puts the car on auto-pilot brings back painful memories of Maximum Homerdrive.

Nice Departed montage with the Irish rock jam.

Right that's it! I'm getting a Dropkick Murphy's CD right now.

I really liked to see Bart be the focus of an episode. It was kind of lame that the traitor was known since um the beginning and the homer plot was mostly stupid and had a lame ending. But other than that I enjoyed this episode.

Straight out of The Departed which is what the episode was a parody of.

You'd think they'd squeeze Fat Tony somewhere in a Departed parody.

So I see Bart is trying to become the next Bugs Bunny now, that was a great prank though, you don't see Bart do much of those any more. I liked this episode, it was different even though Donny's voice was a little too adult for my liking. I hope we do see more of him though.

Well the fans knew about it becuase we saw the rat go in with Skinner and discuss it with Skinner if that's what you mean. Or were you talking about how it was stupid that they let us know who the rat was in the begining, guess they could have done it maybe in the middle to suprise us. At least they through us a loop for Bart. Pretty fun episode I say. Bart was in character and the new character was great too, he needs to appear in other episodes I liked him. Poor Milhouse got the raw deal in it LOL oh wellXD
Oh also animation was very nice and so was the music. We really do need more Bart episodes.

I really liked this episode too. For some reason it reminded me of the early seasons.

I also love the "school" episodes, so I'm glad we got another one.

Anyone else think this felt like 90's version of Bart instead of 00' Bart? Yeah, I like the 90's Bart character better.

No, the ending with Ralph and the animal rat.

Not exactly a golden age episode, but its heart was in the right place. Perhaps at times it became too much of a parody, like South Park circa season 9.

I don't care if this was based on a movie I've never seen and know little about--usually, I only get actual plots from prime-time animated shows on American Dad. They'll never make a Bart Classic episode again, but this was deliciously old-school...Season 12 old-school.

03-03-2008, 01:21 AM
Perhaps, but I highly doubt that's the main reason.

Factoring in how the wacking day episode was almost fifteen years ago, I'd say it was more because of the fact that the actors are getting old.

That's what I felt too, he seemed more 90's character. They seem to be trying to write him back to his old self thank goodness. What with episode 24 and The Simpsons movie and The Sideshow Bob episode and next weeks episode. Did any one notice Nancey sounded a lot like old Bart too? I thought she sounded great in tonights episode

This was one of the best episodes of the Simpsons I have seen in a long time and I enjoy the newer Simpson. Interesting that while a parody of a new movie it feels like a classic Simpsons episode, like something this show would do back when the characters were actually characters and not a collection of gags. Even with the identity of the rat being obvious it was still a great episode. The Homer sub plot was ok i guess but the Main plot more then made up for it.

Nice Departed montage with the Irish rock jam.

If it's a movie parody, and they were trying to reference something, I'll let yet another lazy gag montage slide by. But you'd better get your act together next time, you Harvard graduated slackers.

And even though it was a movie parody, I feel they lifted the entire plotline of the episode from an episode of Recess. I could have sworn there was an episode that was exactly like this.

Alright episode, didn't leave that much of an impression on me. And the subplot just was nothing. Just wanted to get Homer in the episode.

HA-HA! SEE-SAW!

Topher Grace, voice of Donny, is a teen actor in some teen drama or something?

Like the parts of Bart chasing a boy around and getting into surprise traps!

Better than the past couple of eps, if nothing else. Some laughs, at least, but don't you just hate it when the sub-plot becomes as wasted as displayed here?

It's the best episode I've seen in a while (I missed some other Season Eighteen episodes due to work, so it's debatable at the moment if there's something better then this one right now). Except the "eh" Homer plot, the episode was a solid and dare I say charming Bart episode. It's nice to see a major focus of his role in school: the troublemaking prankster.

I was also squealing in most of the Lisa scenes, she was absolutely adorable here.
