The 2-disc edition is amazing.I love how Warner took care of the special features here. The documentaries are beautiful and the menu design is fantastic.Btw My friend is curious about the Blu-ray version, how would he know what region it is? I mean is it all regions or just region 1? Is there anyway to tell before he buys it?

I picked up the two-disc edition and I may buy another copy if I can find a really good store exclusive to pick up. The extras were really really good. The preview for Batman: Gotham Knight really has me interested in the title. I particularly liked the two documentaries although the one on the first disc was better than the one on the second. And I was a bit disappointed to see that the Justice League Unlimited episodes included were in fullscreen and not widescreen. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. I still have a couple extras to get through but this set is really full of some great extras and I was really surprised to see how full it was.

I'm gonna be heading into work in about 3 hours, i'm trying to see if anyone knows any deals out there on this. I plan on getting the two disc set. I know Best Buy has the Green Lateran doll, is there any other deals or specials out there?
On the Blu-Ray edition, the Movie looks fantastic! Sadly, it looks as if the extras are in measly Standard Def and some of them looked like crap on my HTPC (Gotham Knight preview [the internet bootleg version looked 10x better] and the three JLU episodes). I'll have more to say about it later, but those were my first impressions.
Ah, got my edition from Wal-Mart on Monday night for $29.95, no extras (figures, comics, playboy bunnies) came with it.

I bought mine at Best Buy at 10:07am today. There were 4 New Frontier DVDs left w/ the figure. The GL figure is 2 inches tall. haha.

I got mine at Blockbuster. They had four stacks with New Frontier DVDs. The first three were gone by the time I got there, with only two 2-disc (what I got) left.

I know Best Buy has the Green Lateran doll, is there any other deals or specials out there? The only other deal I'm aware of is at Circuit City. They seem to be giving out a Green Lantern patch with the single-disc edition. The weekly ad doesn't say if it also comes with the two-disc special edition, although I don't see why it wouldn't.
Oh, and Target's single-disc edition I think also comes with a digital download of the movie. Which, again, might also apply for the two-disc. Don't know.
And as I mentioned in the "February 26, 2008 -- what are you getting this week?" thread, the Best Buy exclusive 3.5-inch Green Lantern figures seem to be going pretty fast. But for all I know, they have a bunch more in the back.
A nearly useless patch and a cheap figurine. They really know what makes us tick, don't they?

Yay!! Ive got the Best buy exclusive with the GL figurine!!!!! Soooo happy!!! :anime:
The movie and dvd itself are the best Ive seen from DC. Great extras, great quality, sound and totally entertaining. This is my favorite release from both DCAU and Dc Direct so far. Ill give it a perfect 10 (altho it doesnt come with spanish dubs or subs but hopefully this will change in the future).

i got the 2 disc with the FIGURINE. i think all the ads said a green lantern action FIGURE. there is a big difference between the two. anyway, i was really impressed with the bonus material. this has to be the best bonus material on a dc animated release i've ever seen. the bonus material is up among the best with all dc releated (live action and animated) releases.
i enjoyed this movie so much i think i'm gonna buy it again once i get a blu ray player.
i hope everyone goes to best buy because they're doing a sale to commemorate the release of the new frontier. this is what i picked up:
justice league unlimited season 1 - 21.99
justice league unlimited season 2 - 14.99
superman animated series seasons 1-3 - 14.99
challenge of the superfriends vol 1 - 14.99
challenge of the superfriends vol 2 - 14.99
there were no batman sets on sale, hopefully they'll do batman when the gotham knight dvd comes out.

My friends dormmate bought it this morning and I went over to watch it. I will probably buy it on blu ray when I see it out because I liked the special features a lot. We watched it in a group of 8 and only 2 of us read the comic. We were the only two that enjoyed it.

I'm pretty satisfied with the 2 disk release so far.
I've checked out the JL doc and the Villains Doc and enjoyed both.
Most of the Villains doc actually felt kinda like it should have been on the JLU season 2 set- until the end and they start talking about the Center.
Haven't listened to the commentaries, or the checked out the "Comic Book Commentary: Homage to the New Frontier" Featurette, but I'm looking forward to them.
Does anyone know any the reasoning behind the JLU episodes b.t. chose to put on the 2 disk edition. I can see why "Dark Heart" is there- the entire league fighting off a massive-faceless threat, and Flagg plays a major role in "Task Force X" but I can't figure out why "To Another Shore" is there. Unless it really is as simple as b.t. chose his 3 favorites- in which case, good to know.
Oh, and I think the little GL figurine is amusing- with his tiny lantern.

btw, I believe the JLU eps are presented in standard, fullscreen. Weird considering they were widescreen for the JLU release.

To keep it simple, the 50's style had my intrigued the whole way. The main thing is this film needed to be longer in length, it just felt like everything was wrapped up so quickly. Its not a bad film, but it just needed more time...kind of like Han did.

Great Animation, just a few problems with this movie, (too short and kinda confusing if you haven't read the book) this was a problem, since this movie was made for everyone, including those who don't even know who these heroes are, they should have added a little more time to introduce the characters. Other than that, this movie was great, so many special features, all the guys at DC seem like really great people, thanks WB and DC! :)

I have to say, I know the cover art of the non-special edition DVD is "classic" from the comic book, but I think it's going to hurt sales. Regular people see that cover and it becomes a liability because it looks so simplistic and unsophisticated. The new cover they designed that's featured on the 2-disc DVD is much better.
When I was in Best Buy they had a nice kiosk for New Frontier (right at the front of the store!) and they had NF next to lots of other DCAU DVD releases. Why pick up New Frontier when the JLU box set, with much "sharper" cover art, is right next to it?
Then again if you read my review of New Frontier in the talkbacks you'll know I think it's probably better for the future of DC animation sales if people do pick up the JLU set instead of NF...
And of course Best Buy also had older DVDs like "Paradise Lost" and "Secret Origins" in much-more prominent shelf positions on the kiosk than they did the JLU box sets. WB needs to tell the stores to stop featuring those DVDs. Anyone whose first DCAU purchase is a season one JL DVD, that's not exactly putting your best foot forward WB...

Pretty good, but the movie did not flow smoothly, it jumped from place to place and left me scratching my head several times. I was disappointed GL did not appear till the very end. I'll going to watch it again several times this week and I may upgrade/downgrade....but for right now it was just ok.

I'm proud to have made this my very first Blu-ray purchase. I watched it at a friend's (as I won't have a PS3 to play it for a few weeks yet) and we were both impressed by the movie.
The disc, however, could have been handled a little better. There is no title menu and the film auto-plays. The only menu that exists has every single feature crammed into it. The layout is okay, but they really pushed the visual clarity of the HD screen. I don't know how it looks on an SD television, but I doubt you could read the tiniest text easily, which means even after I get my Blu-ray-playing PS3, I'm going to have to squint until I have the ability to get an HD set. Still, it's a high-def format and there really isn't a need to cater to the "lesser" crowd, but seriously WHV, why is there only ONE menu? That's unprofessionalism that may turn off some buyers.
To its credit, no previews play before the movie, but I prefer a menu before the movie starts playing. We weren't ready at all for it to start, so we had to go and chapter-skip back to the beginning. That false start hurt our experience of the movie. Fortunately, it was not enough to really matter, as the movie blew our minds. So basically, it got lucky.
The three JLU eps are fantastic choices for this set. I don't know why I was foolishly expecting them to be in pristine HD transfers, though. Still, to a JL newbie, those episodes should easily be sufficient incentive to buy the season sets.
I really enjoyed hearing Darwin Cooke explain the process of adapting the comic to the movie. And that Batman: GK sneak peek was fantastic. We didn't watch any of the other featurets, so I can't comment on those.

**Kelly Pickler voice** This might be a stupid question ...
But does Blu-Ray/HD picture quality really make any difference with an animated feature?
B:TAS actually looks better on VHS tape than DVD because the DVD is too crisp. One problem I had with JL on DVD was how pixel-ish the people's outlines looked (though JLU's release didn't have that problem).

I watched New Frontier in high definition and it looked fantastic. The problems with lines looking jagged or pixelated and all that, that doesn't happen in HD. Some of the art in New Frontier is so detailed that it looks really rich in high definition, and the high resolution of HD makes the non-detailed, cleaner/simpler portions of the animation look really crisp, as they should look. It doesn't have the same "film" look that BTAS had, but it does well in its own right. It looks more like a comic-book come to life, where BTAS looked more like film-ish animation.
But no question that newer animation like New Frontier looks best in HD. The opening credits and prologue were especially nice to see in HD.

What LEGIT online retailers are selling this for download?
The iTunes store has the movie available for rental at $4.00, and in HD if you have an Apple TV. Click here if you have iTunes (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMovie?id=273783629&s=143441) to get to the relevant page. Not for sale, though, as far as I can see.
Okay, so I just figured out the "To Another Shore" connection- King Faraday.
Unless someone knows other reasons why these 3 eps were chosen? Anyone...
The only thing I can figure out is that "Dark Heart" is another giant punch-up with a whole mess of superheroes fighting an alien menace, akin to the climax of the movie. In addition to the King Faraday bit in "To Another Shore," there's also the idea that Wonder Woman is not really on the same page as the rest of the world and the idea that J'onn J'onzz needs to connect with humanity. I hadn't seen the episode since it aired, so it was even better than I remembered it.
"Task Force X" was written by Darwyn Cooke, and also features Rick Flagg and the Suicide Squad (who featured prominently in the graphic novel, although not with the lineup they used).
Skip down to the end of my Toon Zone News review (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=22036) to see what I thought of the DVDs. Knowing what I know now, I would have opted for the Target exclusive single-disc rather than the double-disc I bought at Best Buy. The Hal figurine is pretty cool, but the second disc is a big disappointment IMO.

Well i finally picked it up. I got it at Walmart. They have a bonus comic that comes with the solo dvd but not the 2 disc dvd, which i think is stupid of Walmart not to include....but i didnt care. I watched it last night and enjoyed it. I hope we see a continuation. Only problem i have with this is that it was way too short of the film, even if it was low budget.

I enjoyed both commentaries. Then of course, there's the Gotham Knight Sneak Peek. I suppose my only quibble is the Villains featurette on Disc 2. It just feels out of place. It's a great add-on however seeing how the Legion of Doom have nothing to do w/ this story, I felt it probably should've been an extra on the last JLU release. Of course, they tacked on the bit about the Centre to tie it in.

Bought the bluray this weekend and watch it. I totally loved it, thought it was done very well. hadn't read the graphic novel so I was going in green. I do wish it were a bit longer but still very happy with the movie, I sure hope the rest of these DTV are of this quality!

I too enjoyed this DVD immensely. I thought it was leagues ahead of Superman Doomsday, even though that movie was very well done. It seems they're getting with each release, especially with the pacing and the artwork. I realize the art on this release was based on the novel's designs but still, it came out much better than expected. I'm eagerly looking forward to many more releases. I just hope sales keep up so that the prospect of more movies becomes a reality. It kind of makes up for Justice League Unlimited's cancellation... almost...

Well, I take back what I said about the look of the Standard Def features, it turns out my DVD codec on my HTPC got trashed. After fixing it, the features played like they should, though I'm still disappointed they weren't HD. Oh and Task Force X appeared to be in Widescreen upon playback, unless I'm mistaken - wouldn't be the first time.

The upconversion from SD to HD makes it look like they zoomed in and then cropped a full-screen image back into widescreen, but if you compare the placement of the JLU logo during the intro, it is the complete widescreen version.
Thanks, TF! It's the same with the other two JLU episodes as well.

You guys are definitely on the right track...the episodes were all chosen NOT to be a representative "best of JL / JLU" -- though i think they're all pretty good -- but because each of them relates to NEW FRONTIER in some way...
DARK HEART -- big diverse group of heroes fights a fairly static alien menace, wonder woman kicks ass, ray palmer brought in to help with scientific know-how
TO ANOTHER SHORE -- king farraday and j'onn have prominent roles
TASK FORCE X -- rick flagg in a prominent role, and script written by darwyn

Hey guys, longtime fan, anyways, I'm trying to figure out the name of the music used in the beginning of the Super Heroes United!: The Complete Justice League History documentary (on the Justice League: The New Frontier DVD).
Any help as to what this musical score is called, would be VERY appreciated. I've heard it used in a lot of stuff before, but can't ever seem to track down what the piece is and where exactly it's from.
