Earlier I asked if the real NES version of Super Mario Brothers 2 is available on the Wei or for download, and happily heard that it was.

This is a follow up, but the U.S. Super Mario Bros. 2 was based on a Japanise game called Doki Doki Panic, my question is, is that game avialable on the Wei?

Note: I missed up the title on the title thread. My appologies.

The Japanese version of SMB2 is up on the Wii. (the one with the poison mushrooms)

I doubt you're ever going to see Doki Doki Panic officially avalible anywhere ever again. (Japan or America) It was a licenced game, so Nintendo doesn't own two of the main characters. Besides, there's no reason to want to play it over SMB2 for anything other than the historical value.

Well it is the same game, but I liked Doki Doki Panic storyline better than the dream storyline in the american SMB2, the children getting sucked into the book, and the ending of saving them. (though it is pain in the butt, that you have to beat the game 4 times) makes it more satisfying in beating the game.

I've been wondering something about Doki Doki Panice and SMB USA. Do they have different music and are the bad guys different?

It the same game nonetheless, same music, same bad guys, they just swiped the Arab characters with Mario characters, and thus added the people in that games to the Mario series. I think this video from the ScrewAttack Europe Team could clear somethings up.

The only major difference is the world 5 boss. In SMB2 it is some sort of crab, that is a original character for SMB2 /SMUSA, in Doki Doki Panic the boss is Mouser once again.

You do refight Mouser again, he's the boss of Area 6. Anyway I'm stumped in why you would you want to play it when SMB2 is Doki Doki Panic except with Mario characters, the game itself is pratically the same. Not to mention the fact that Doki Doki Panic is much, much, harder to find than SMB2.

The crab you refer to is Clawgrip. However, yes in DDP, it is a third Mouser.

Incidentally, here are the characters that were swapped:

Imajin=Mario

Mama=Luigi (hence, why Luigi looks the way he does today)

Papa=Toad

Lina=Princess Peach (called Princess Toadstool in the U.S. at the time)

Miyamoto was behind Doki Doki Panic as well, which is why such Mario staples as invincibility stars and power-up mushrooms existed in the game before Mario was transplanted into it.

Kondo also did the music, IIRC.

power-up mushrooms existed in the game

Actually the Mushrooms used to be hearts in Doki Doki Panic.

Here (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/smb2_ddp.shtml) is more information on the changes from Doki Doki Panic to Super Mario Bros. 2

I'd like to know how exactly this is a scandal.

Mama=Luigi (hence, why Luigi looks the way he does today) Could this be the inspiration for the SMW episode title "Mama Luigi"? j/k

There are also some slight music differences, but nothing major.

Wikipedia says that in SMB 2, the underworld theme is slower and has an added drum part. Oh yeah, and the invincibility and subspace themes were different in DDP. Otherwise, the music is the same in both versions.

On an added note, Wikipedia also says that the "extra life" sound is different in DDP (it's the theme that plays when you either get the crystal or make a match in the slot machine game).

It's kind of funny how the Papa character was changed into Toad for SMB2, yet he looks kind of like Mario with a turban.
