OK,you smart TZ people.I got a 19 on my last ACT in my junior year of HS and didn't study worth crap. Then this time around I took online prep courses, took a cram jam before test day and brought a really good calculater along with me.I got...a 15.Will I need to take remediation courses for a whole semester before I can take regular courses at my University college?:( :( :(

Actually at Ohio State and at any college, you need to apply first before even thinking about remedial courses. Usually the GPA depends 75% of the time whether you get in or not. Another 15% is on the ACT or SAT score and the 10% is what you put on the application. Once your accepted into a college, you'll probably then take placement tests on math, foreign language, and english which does depend on the ACT or SAT score and how many credits in high school you took. How well you do on the placement tests will depend on what courses you will be taking for those three placement tests and whether you may take remedial courses or not.
Still your a junior in high school from what your post said. The ACT or SAT doesn't come around once a year and you can take it multiple times throughout the year. The application due dates doesn't start until around the first of January expect for the rolling admissions. Also, does your high school offer ACT prep?

I don't think that ACTs need to be sent in, only SATs, so if you did poorly, don't send the score in. And placement tests determine what level courses you take :).

Maybe at your school they do...but colleges don't really care about those unless you did really well, which would help you get in.

You're speaking from the prospective of someone in MD. ACTs are actually more common than the SATs in the midwest. If an ACT score is submitted in place of an SAT score, it'll be given equal weight (which is why if someone tends to do better on one, they should stick to it). Personally, I prefer the ACT because it's more of a knowledge test and less of a vague, BS "reasoning" test. But I also did better on the ACT, so I could be biased.
Anyway, to the OP, you're only a junior, so retaking the exam (with more practice, of course) should help you get a better score. I'm not entirely sure of all of the other aspects of your eventual college application (GPA, extra-curriculars, etc), but remember that test scores are only a small component of the admissions process (and a pretty poor indicator of performance in college, overall).

Well, the only think I can say is that college’s only take your highest score. So they will still take the 19 and will injore the 15. I guess that’s the good news. The bad news might be that the 19 still might not be high enough for some colleges. Out of the colleges that I applied for, the average score was about 23 or 24. But just because you get a 19 don’t mean that a college will deny you. They look at many different aspects.
I hope that might give you a little more knolwedge about the ACT, but I’m not sure if I really answered your question.
