Let the talkback begin!
I asked my roommate halfway through the episode: "Ya think the baby is Aaron?" because they kept showing him at the beginning. And holy crap, I was right.

"Island Diary, Day 95: Merry Christmas."
Babies on the brain in this one. I wonder if they used eggs to symbolize the babies? Other than that I can't think of why they would bother titling the episode after eggs.
So my rant last week about decompressing time was unfounded. We had 1 1/2 days this time, which means we're at Christmas morning if my calculations are correct. (Jack said they were on the Island "a hundred days" last week, but it should only have been 93. He was probably using a ballpark figure. Oh, I just made a pun, 'cuz that was also the conversation where he mentioned the Red Sox. :p )
For a Kate episode, this one is probably the best so far. All the characters she interacted with brought the plot together nicely, from her mother to Jack to Sawyer. Speaking of Sawyer, it's always great to see him getting the short end of the stick but taking it with grace. Rooming with "Montezuma" is probably the last thing he wanted to do.
There were many good character moments in this episode. We finally got to see Sun and Jin again, Claire got a more relevant speaking part than usual, Locke did that super cool thing with the hand grenade, and Sawyer was Sawyer.
Aaron being Kate's baby was a huge shocker. Looking back, it should have been obvious. Kate told Sawyer she knows she isn't pregnant, but she's lied before. Claire's conversation about babies can now be taken in a new context. Even Sun and Jin talked about her/their unborn child. But why would Jack have a problem with Kate looking after Aaron? I can see why he'd be uncomfortable if it was Sawyer's, but why does he have a problem with Claire's baby... (speculation ahead)
...unless by that point he knows Claire is his sister, making Aaron his nephew.
INSTANCES OF THE NUMBERS - Kate was offered 4 years of jail time. Miles asked for 3.2 million dollars (23 in reverse). Daniel guessed the cards were a Queen, a 6 and a 10. (6+10=16)
Aaron's reveal fills the 5 living members of the Oceanic Six, unless Aaron doesn't count since he was born on the Island. We'll have to see in future episodes. This episode must also take place before Jack's flash-forward from last season, since in that episode Kate is free to go places unescorted and Jack hasn't grown his beard yet and isn't acting like a depressed lunatic.

(Jack said they were on the Island "a hundred days" last week, but it should only have been 93. He was probably using a ballpark figure. Oh, I just made a pun, 'cuz that was also the conversation where he mentioned the Red Sox. :p )Actually, Jack said it had been 100 days since he'd seen a ball game. Not been on the island.
INSTANCES OF THE NUMBERS - Kate was offered 4 years of jail time. Miles asked for 3.2 million dollars (23 in reverse). Daniel guessed the cards were a Queen, a 6 and a 10. (6+10=16)Also, their bogus story cited 8 survivors.
Aaron's reveal fills the 5 living members of the Oceanic Six, unless Aaron doesn't count since he was born on the Island. We'll have to see in future episodes.I would assume Aaron would count as one of the Oceanic Six, but obviously not as one of the initial eight survivors, since he wasn't born at the time of the crash. What I'm wondering is, are they trying to pass him off as Kate's biological son, or are they claiming that Claire was one of the two (or three, depending on if Aaron counts as one of the Six) survivors who died, and that Kate adopted Aaron upon Claire's death?

And come to think of it, there's another couple with legal claim to Aaron, so I can't imagine they would ever want to come clean about Claire. There is still the minor question of whether or not the media is counting Aaron as one of the Six. I'll have to rewatch Jack's testimony and pay close attention to how he words it.

Great episode. I kind saw Kate baby being Aaron coming. They were putting too much focus on the baby early on. Which makes wonder what happened to Claire? She couldn't have stay on the island. She loves Aaron a lot so she wouldn't never abandon him. Does this mean she dead? Probably.
I was surprised by Locke puting a grenade on Miles mouth. I mean he want information a grenade wouldn't have been a smart choice. Unless the grenade is fake. Knowing Locke it probably is.
Again good episode. Can't for next week.

I gotta admit staying spoiler free makes me enjoy the episodes more. Lost has really brought me back as a fan. Let's recap... So good ol' Ben is supposed to come up with 3.2 million dollars for Miles. Okay. Locke is stuffing grenades in a hostage's mouth. Okay. Kate now has baby Aaron back in the real world. Okay. Jack feels uncomfortable about being around Aaron... does he find out down the line or in this case in the past that Claire is his sister? Could Jack be responsible for her death(if she's dead)? Could Claire still be on the island? Per usual, more questions than answers, but all in a much better season than last year.
Next week it's all about Desmond and Sayid. :D
Edit by Bird Boy: Please do not discuss the "next week" preview without spoiler brackets, as many readers here do not wish to have it spoiled.

I thought the twist in this episode was predictably but I think the implications of what this twist might mean are more interesting to me. It seems as if in the flash forward that people are assuming the baby is also Jack's and Kate's biological son which really strikes me as interesting. So does this baby count as anotehr of the Oceanic 6? And what does this mean to Claire? Did she die on or off the island? The enw flash forward technique the show uses has really given Lost a real kick in terms of quality.

More silly stunts and not a lot else. Actually, Hurley's Scooby Doo reference was kinda funny. Good enough for an exra half star. Worst episode so far this season, though.

'Eggtown' is an old post WWII term about salesman making deals. So basically, it refers to Kate's sentence and Miles' extortion.
Reminded of the fortune teller, Malkin. "The child cannot be raised by another." It still came true. Considering how Walt turned out, maybe Aaron is special, too.
Do you think the sixth will be someone we expect wants to get off (Sun, Jin) or someone who wouldn't (Locke, Sawyer, Rose, Bernard)? Come to think of it, the episode sort of makes Claire kill-able...not that anyone is truly safe.

Going by the wreckage of Flight 815 that was found and how Miles askes Ben where he was, I'm gonna put onto the table a theory that the island creates alternate copies of people.

The implications regarding the fortune teller's message or warning are kind of interesting. I wonder if this will be addressed in an upcoming episode.

Well, there is supposed to be the death of an original 815er coming up very soon.
Kate raising Aaron makes the obvious guess that Claire is dead. BUT the Lost writers are pretty good with not making things too obvious. I doubt she dies, and if she isn't, then she was left behind for whatever reason that we should hopefully know soon.

For that matter, I wonder if Malkin encountered anymore people besides Claire and Eko, survivor or freighter.
I heard about that. But I think they are holding that 8th episode back until the rest of the season airs.
I wonder how Kate was able to afford the house and a nanny? Did she mention being with someone?

Point. Fans noticed Aaron is credited as 'Two year old.' Guess we have a time frame to build on.

I stopped watching this show after the first season, as I got distracted and didn't have time to catch up. I was home to watch this, so hell, I did, and I have to say...I am LOST, but I realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly loved this episode. I just really enjoy how well the acting is done, and due to that acting the scenes were pulled off very well. I am trying to read wikipedia to catch up, but still a bit confused, anyone want to fill me in on what I definately should know?

Is the death happening in the 8th episode?
Yeah, ABC/Lost producers decided to hold the 8th episode until April 24th when the 5 post-strike episodes would be ready to go. Episode 8 ends on a massive cliffhanger and this way there is only a week between episodes rather than 5 or 6 weeks. Episode 7 according to the producers is a more natural stopping point.
Episode 8 also features the return of Michael, and Libby makes a return ala flashback I'm guessing.

The producers commented that if the 8th episode were used as the last episode, it'd be a cliffhanger a la Libby and Ana Lucia. I assume they were talking about when Michael killed them so I'm guessing someone will die.
I know nothing else of episode 8 and I prefer that so I won't read that 2nd tag.

I rewatched the episode, and I've concluded that Aaron does not count as one of the Oceanic Six.
Jack says there were eight initial survivors, two of whom died. Then Kate's lawyer says Kate saved five people. Since Aaron wasn't on the flight, they must not be counting him.
Also, anyone else notice the angry bearded guy yelling at Kate when she's entering the courthouse? Someone at another website played the audio backwards, and it sounds like he's saying, "We hate you!" Backwards.

I'm guessing in the Big Lie, Claire was one of the survivors but died during child birth.
Well, I guess Sin or Jin or both are the other two in the Oceanic Six. They're the only ones left that want to get off the Island from Flight 815. Locke, Sawyer, and Rose (and by extension Bernard) won't leave. Considering how the manifest is known, I doubt Juliet is getting off, but then again Ben did, probably with Desmond's yacht or even that transport boat from "Stranger in a Strange Land," last season.

I'm guessing in the Big Lie, Claire was one of the survivors but died during child birth. As I mentioned earlier, Kate is seemingly passing Aaron off as her own ("I want to see my grandson"). If they admitted he was Claire's son, there would be all sorts of legal issues, such as the rightful adoptive parents.

According to TVGuide.com here (http://www.tvguide.com/Ask-Ausiello#01AA), ABC WILL air episode 8 before the 5 week hiatus. Episode 8 will air March 20th and will return with the post-strike episodes April 24th!

Episode 8 will air March 20th and will return with the post-strike episodes April 24th!That makes a lot more sense. I was puzzled to hear that ABC was going to cater to the potential wrath of fans who would be angered by the cliffhanger, but cliffhangers are traditionally supposed to help a show keep viewers over an extended period. In Lost's case, though, the fanbase has seen far too many of them, and with or without a cliffhanger most viewers have subscribed to this show for good. Regardless, I support this tactic. Cliffhangers are healthy.
'Course that means I've got to change the standard text in my talkback headers AGAIN...
